    I do this with photo paper, and then, when dry, buff off the “haze” with microfiber cloth or paper towel. I stamp on this surface with bolder line stamps, and when dry, I add the micro glaze for durability purposes. I have a tag I cut out after and backed with stronger paper in my car, for about 6 months, and no fading yet. Your work is so pretty! TFS.

    you can also take a piece of white cardstock…. laminate it and use it for smooshing ink. also add a bit of gold watercolor to this background before heating. little cost. your backgrounds are so pretty.🌸

    Great video, Mindy. When you were fretting about the second card and how the Salvaged Patina wasn't showing up enough.... the way the card was at first, it would have made an excellent beach card -- your card looked like the line between the water and the sandy beach.
    Have a great weekend!

    Beautiful cards! I have been doing that technique for the past two years and I love the results. Instead of expensive glossy paper, I use photo paper and works great. You can also stamp a sentiment or other images with black or brown ink before buffing with your Micro Glaze or microfiber cloth (the way I do it) and it really pops.

      @@andreah993 with glossy photo paper I use plain paper towels to buff off the chalkiness of the Distress Oxides and the microfiber cloth to get extra shine. I don’t use the Micro Glaze. Also, I leave the panels dry between layers or use a dual temp heat tool to speed up the process, before buffing. You can add lots of layers of color and/or stamp images and sentiments before buffing and they will show vibrantly. I hope you give it a try.

    I didn’t know that the technique would work with the oxide spray!! I’ve only ever seen it with the ink. Your backgrounds are gorgeous. The one where the Blue Ribbon “took over” the panel is my favorite. It reminded me of those pictures you see of galaxies in space- just beautiful. I haven’t tried this technique yet, so I’m really excited to give this a try. Wonderful finished cards, but the panels are show stoppers!!

    This works on photo paper without the glaze….just need a baby wipe…i think it works A LOT better that way….
    Whenever ive used the glaze, that was it, I couldn’t add any more color bc it beads up. But you can still work on top when you use photo paper & wiping off the cloudy color to expose the very vibrant colors underneath, on photo paper, the color becomes permanent so there’s absolutely no need for the glaze.

    I bought the micro glaze for this technique, after having seen a video on it about a year-ish ago because it looked so cool! Like someone else, I have used photo paper (had some sample packs in a drawer😊) and that works great, too. But...a couple of weeks or so ago, when I was doing this technique, I dropped something on one of my dried backgrounds and grabbed a paper towel to wipe it off before I put the micro glaze on. When I wiped that area, it took off what had spilled AND the dusty finish that the DO inks have. The spot was vibrant as though I HAD used the micro glaze already, so as an experiment, I used the clean paper towel to wipe over half the background and micro glaze on the other half. There's no real difference in the vibrancy! Who knew??? Anyway...it's really cool to know because with the glaze (which has a Vaseline-type finish) it's hard to stamp on it (a sentiment or silhouette, for example) and get a good image. Without the glaze, you can easily do that and add the glaze later if you really want it. I was SUPER surprised!

  • @janicerepass5424
    @janicerepass5424 2 года назад

    Don't forget that once your colors dry, you can reapply a different color over the top, so for example, when your dark blue took over, or your brown, once it was dry you could have put the lighter colors over top.

  • @HeidiLilley
    @HeidiLilley 2 года назад

    These are so pretty. I'm curious, you said you can heat emboss over the glaze but will any regular inks attach and stick? Also, what blue is closest to prized ribbon? I don't have that yet.

    • @MindyEggenDesign
      @MindyEggenDesign  2 года назад +1

      I haven't tried it myself - it's just what I caught in a video one time. I would say to make sure it's good and dry before trying to heat emboss. Embossing Ink is sticky and then you are heating the emboss powder which makes sense if it sticks. I don't think a dye ink will work on top but it's something to experiment with :-) . Closest to prize ribbon would probably be Blueprint Sketch.

    Awesome backgrounds, Mindy, & I love how you did the cards with that cover plate die. One tip for saving $$$, though. You can get the same result with cheap glossy photo paper & a baby wipe. Just add the Oxide inks to the photo paper the same way, drying between layers. Then, after you've added all the ink & it is thoroughly dry, go over the paper with a wet baby wipe. It gives the exact same effect. I use photo paper I got at Dollar Tree. It's in an 8-sheet (letter size) pack for $1. So, if you do full A2 size panels, that's 32 card panels right there. I have read, the cheaper the paper, the better. The only downside is that, since it is thinner, it will warp more than a thicker cardstock, especially if you are using a regular heat tool (vs. a dual setting one or a hair dryer) to dry it. Also, you have to be careful not to burn the paper. But I've always been able to make it work, so I don't mind. Keep in mind, once you go over it with the wipe, it's like the Micro Glaze - you can't ink blend or smoosh any more on the panel, as the ink won't stick. I have also stamped with a dark Oxide ink onto the finished background, before "treating" it with the baby wipe. The wipe brings out the color in the stamping as well. Just be conscious not to smear the ink around with the wipe. Rather, go over small sections of your panel & change what part of the wipe you use as you go. (Hope that makes sense!) I suppose you could also try with thicker, more expensive photo paper, but I haven't done that, so can't comment on how effective that is. Anyway, just wanted to put that out there, for any other cheap chickens like I am! Thank you for sharing, Mindy. Take care, & have a wonderful day! :)
