My father taught me how to change gears on that emergency strip on Richmond Road. I had no idea it was used for racing or that it was where Ron Tauranacs’ interest in motor racing started. Thanks for posting such an interesting video. 👍
I'll try and get a copy of the book! I'm a fan of motor racing history, I live near by the long gone Aspendale Racecourse, a horse racing track which held Victoria 's first motorsport event in 1906. I have worked as a volunteer official at the now closed and derelict Thunderdome Super Speedway at Calder Park Raceway.
@@anthonyanderson4107Correct. But the 1904 race at Sandown was merely on the horse race track, so Aspendale was the first purpose built car racing track in Australia in 1906.
Now you know where I detoured to on my way up to "The Mountain" on Friday - shooting at Mount Druitt. Yeah ok - and a yummy Vietnamese cake shop on Richmond Road took me that way too!!

Both those venues are in my book. In fact it was just wanting to know why Thunderdome closed that started me writing what ended up being a whole book!
