One of the few adaptations of a Lovecraft story that is true to the original. So many are set in different locations and time periods from the original stories with vastly different plots
IntoThe Mouth Of Madness is one of the greatest Lovcratian movies around, although it's not one of his storys,it captures the essence of his work perfectly
Truly remarkable level of detail and adhesion to the original work. Best adaptation of Lovecraft's work I've seen so far and the fact that there are quite a few of them makes it even more prominent. What I noticed is that you made woman the narrator even though it's no secret the majority of Lovecraft's stories featured predominantly male characters.
VERY well done . I have had something of a running fight with the snake people myself over the years . When I was younger , they seemed to seek me out . Whether on foot , horseback or pickup truck , I always seemed to find them . I’m not sure what started their feud with me ... At first they tried stealth , hiding in odd places and the dark corners ... trying to get close enough to hit me ... Sneaky and sly ... In pipes and under things ... I killed so many ... with pistol , rifle , clubs , machetes ... garden tools . I helped dynamite snake dens , and killed as many as I could . It must have been in the hundreds over my lifetime . For a while , it was almost as if they were young and foolish boys , trying to make their reputation by challenging an old gunman ... Many people remarked how some would come out of the brush , rattling to beat the band ... heading straight for me ... out of nowhere . Wanting a fight . They were medium sized , fairly young and fast ... so many of them ... I would oblige them with rifle or pistol . I guess the brave ones ran out , or got smarter ... they don’t do that anymore . Then it changed ... some would panic , going away from me like I was the Devil himself ... Folks didn’t believe that until some saw it for themselves ... The fear was real ... you could see it . I used to have dreams full of snakes ... in old houses or rock piles ... and I would be killing them ... like a battle in a war . Shooting over and over ... I only seem to find old ones now , once in a great while ... big and menacing , sinuous... but slow and tired . Old and ready to move on to the spirit world ... They don’t even threaten ....I’ll find them just lying there , in the open ... quietly , watching , waiting for me to send them on . I don’t hate them anymore , I almost feel sad for them . Not that I would ever give them a shot at me , on purpose ... or let one go , to bite someone else . Their time here is done . The wild frontier is finished . The magic is dying in the land , it’s all settled , paved over and cut up by roads and fences ... it’s a place for people now , not wild things . There are fewer every year . Some folks have never even seen one in real life . But they were a proud foe in their day ... vicious and frightening... determined in their cold , alien , serpent way ... With their beautiful markings , almost jewel like scales ... powerful muscled bodies ... empty shining eyes , flickering tongues , and needle sharp fangs ... that broad , powerful arrowhead shape of their faces ... The almost cynical , cruel smile at the slightly upturned corners of their mouths ... The faint smell that is unmistakable ... Natural born , cold blooded killers ... murderers of pets , small children and women ... I’m not sorry for what I’ve done ... their tribe and mine were natural enemies ...
Really great short film, very well made with a feeling of dread woven through it. I think Howard would be quite pleased with your telling of his story.😊
There aren't a lot of Lovecraft short films that I have liked, but this is one of them. It had the necessary element of narration as well as the believable acting and it was pretty faithful to the story. Kudos and I have subscribed!
This is good, I would love to see a full feature from you guys, maybe a Charles Dexter Ward tale, or even a proper adaption of The Whisperer in Darkness
Thank you. We've contemplated doing a feature version of one of his works and were even leaning toward Horror At Red Hook and turn some of the xenophobia against itself. But, alas, feature budgets are tough to attain.
I've listened to podcasts that did well with sound effects and the way the story was presented but your work along with the outfits of the time and the makeup were quite exceptional
So much of potential in H P Lovecraft's Universe for movie industry, especially with now dayz and this technology for movies making and or but,no one have big balls too take & bite & make something Pervertedly Awesomeness !?One day maybe, one day!
killingjokefilms Thanks for taking the time to reply, I adore Lovecraft but to be honest I usually steer clear of shorts done on his stuff...So I'm especially grateful to fate , and very glad to have seen yours at all , as it came on automatically , early hours of last night , after a Lovecraft audio I was listening to finished while I was sleeping... I woke up and went to go to my playlists for something audio , when your female leads voice , then her acting caught my attention and imagination. I loved her. Great stuff all round. ,. Which can't always be said about Lovecraftian efforts eh?!! 😋
Unfortunately, yes. There are a lot of sub-par adaptations out there but because we know the folks at the Lovecraft Fest we sometimes get the inside info as to what the good ones are. Great fest, great people.
Hmmmmm . . . good question. If I remember correctly the writer and I thought the dog 'bursting' would be too over the top for the more somber tone we were going for. In retrospect I'm also glad we didn't because I think that would have been a cheap way to gain empathy for the scene and moment. The old adage of using babies or pets for emotional connection and all that.
A nicely spun and spooky H.P. tale for sure. The lessons learned: Don't put a fright into Walker's wife and call up the derm doc double-quick for that funky Yig! No time to put a cork in the jug now either.
I have been a Lovecraft since I was a teenager and any time they have released a Lovecraft themed film I try to see if awful or not, but this one just keeps drawing me back.. and that's a good thing.. Spot on folks with this one
this was actually scary. I was just letting my autoplay go and this came on, watched it right before I was about to go to bed and decided not to. The point where she has the dream, there's that cheap jump scare with that HORRIFYING snake creature and I jumped and screamed, waking my roommate from a dead sleep on the couch.
Ghost written by Lovecraft from an idea of Zelia Bishop. You won't find it it collections of his stories but all his ghostwritten ones. Try the paperback Horror in the Museum or The Loved Dead.
a little criticism here - you got a lot of lovecraft lore a little wrong. I don't recall yig being half human. .. that's like saying cthulhu is half dragon it's just wrong , he's a humanoid creature but not a snake neither a human. and besides that yig would have just Killed them because they know to much about him.
"Then the look of pure fright on his bloodless face turned slowly to something like mingled awe and *ANGER, AND HE BEGAN TO UPBRAID HIS WIFE* in trembling tones." - from "The Curse of Yig," by Zelia Bishop. (emphasis mine) Actually, yes he did yell/scream at his wife.
Thbak you, makers. I liked it much. Native magic around the globe is fascinating. Thousands, maybe tens of thousands of years old. I'm sure it lurks in the subcounsciousness of even the greatest rationalist scientific pundits. Interestingly, one of the names of the old Germanic supreme god Odin was also Yig. aasociated with his darker side. Any connection between American Indians and Vikings?
Well done and entertaining adaptation, how ever, casting the protagonist (ethnologist) to a woman while being very modern and PC changes the dynamic of the story and historically would have been rather improbable especially in the southwest of that time.
Man will be die and women will be pregnant first and gave birth to a half human and half snake baby ,and die any how ,H.P.Lovecraft story, I heard about this, never thought there will be a video on RUclips, thus anyone knows anything about this, please inform me
OH how refreshing it is to hear someone saying "indians" instead of the SJW/PC hateful (and inherently demeaning because trying to hide what is supposed to be prejudice) euphemisms like "first peoples".
Why do people always feel the need to change the sex of main characters anymore, very PC I know. The fact is it is beyond unlikely that a woman in the twenties would have done the things this character is said to have done, been able to travel freely and alone in the Southwest, interviewed and or received any information from the native people, or have received the cooperation or information from the head of the asylum. I'm sorry but those are the facts of the time and place, not to mention IT WAS WRITTEN AS A MAN.
Such a lazy story. You mean to tell me the woman went crazy and had to be institutionalized just from hearing the story and seeing one of those things? That's just poor writing.
One of the few adaptations of a Lovecraft story that is true to the original. So many are set in different locations and time periods from the original stories with vastly different plots
Brilliant and so true to the Lovecraft tale that I most thoroughly enjoyed this! BRAVO!
There actually were no grisly visuals, it was all "suggested". Still, the atmosphere was heavily disturbing. What a story!
What a great time it was to make the creature for you in this truly beautiful production of yours, good sir!
Yig... that's the snake-deity creature, yes? Nevermind, they answered that question instantly early on XD
One of the tightest productions I have seen yet for a Lovecraft story. Thank you. Much appreciated!
The fact that some of the actors were playing multiple roles made the narrative a bit confusing to follow but it was a most excellent production!
Brilliantly done! Fantastic work all of you!
Fanastic job. Im looking for more and more shorts like this. Lovecraft is a challenge.
IntoThe Mouth Of Madness is one of the greatest Lovcratian movies around, although it's not one of his storys,it captures the essence of his work perfectly
Agreed, you hit the Lovecraftian atmosphere perfectly. I very much hope you make more films in the Lovecraftian vein. Thanks!
Three narrators deep, Lovecraft would be proud.
Truly remarkable level of detail and adhesion to the original work. Best adaptation of Lovecraft's work I've seen so far and the fact that there are quite a few of them makes it even more prominent. What I noticed is that you made woman the narrator even though it's no secret the majority of Lovecraft's stories featured predominantly male characters.
yeah mate bring identity politics into it for no reason.
I hope you know the reason Lovecraft didn't write female characters into his stories is because he didn't knew to write female characters...
@@sapiensaurus6320 no ground to claim it
Probably because the original story was written by a woman. Lovecraft simply helped her out on completing the story.
Thank you very much. We're quite proud of it and we appreciate your support and feedback. Enjoy- again.
Did you have to secure any rights to use Yig, or did you just go for it? It's hard to tell what's public domain.

Jealous much?
Pretty cool how you adopted that story. Lovely work
Really great short film, very well made with a feeling of dread woven through it. I think Howard would be quite pleased with your telling of his story.😊
I’ve been wonderfully entertained. Well done !
Nice. Really creepy adaptation, and great acting as well. Can't wait for more!👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
I guess Howard would be satisfied with this adaption.
It's like Dune 2000. Medium budget quality, but who cares, it's practically verbatim. Bravo.
Amazing work
This was so well done, I loved it. The music is great too.
Excellent video many thanks
Great stuff!
Wow finally a very good Lovecraftian movie! Impressive narrative and atmosphere! NICE WORK!

thank you good adaptation of Lovecraft!
Yes indeed! Very good.
Excellent! I enjoyed watching it. I love horror shorts.
excellent, totally respectful to the works of HPL. Impeccable setting!!!
We all sincerely appreciate that. Thank you very much and we're glad you dug it.
Very well done! Congratulations!

Bro, the doc was straight up reading his lines and poorly 😭

very very well done,ty ty
Well done... thank you!!! :)
awesome adaptation, productions with large budgets cant get a atmospheric feel to there production like this does very good work
Much obliged. Thanks for your support.
Woah! Really good adaptation! Way better than many other ‘Hollywood’ production. Kudos!
Much appreciated. All the amazing comments really matter to us so thank you greatly for watching.
It definetely convinced me to read the story! Thanks.
well done. ...loved the snake makeup. Very nicely acted , I really enjoyed your dramatisation of a great story.
We greatly appreciate that. Thanks for the comment and your support.

killingjokefilms That sounds great.. .. You're Lucky!!
Very well done! It is the best of Lovecraft's "revisions", and you've certainly caught its horror here!
An excellent adaptation - well done!! ☝️😎
Soundtrack is especially effective.
I love the way you guys told that story the acting wasn't bad I've seen worse but I love the cinematics was awesome
Very nicely executed, awesome backgrounds and settings....oh, the choice of actors was also great, but why did you omitt the dog ?!
Hmmmmm . . . good question. If I remember correctly the writer and I thought the dog 'bursting' would be too over the top for the more somber tone we were going for. Dang, Yig sounds like husband material ngl
spooky!..good stuff!
Es lo mejor que he visto de lovecraft en cortometraje. Excelente.
That...….was......truly, freakin' horrifying......well done.
A fairly good adaptation, and its one of Lovecraft's works, though he mostly ghost-wrote this one, that could be adapted properly into a film.
Very nicely done.
Very well done!
I've read most of Lovecraft but I don't remember this story. I'll have to go back and catch up!
Ghost written by Lovecraft from an idea of Zelia Bishop. You won't find it it collections of his stories but all his ghostwritten ones. Try the paperback Horror in the Museum or The Loved Dead.
Why haven't known about this, wonderful!
Awesome!
what a hidden gem!
Omg i was scared as hell. Yo I know that was not the aim of the story but i am gonna die if i see a snake
very good and well done. very groovy.
Whoa.....impressive! Thank you Killing Joke! Any relation to "Love like Blood" Killing Joke? Greetings from Germany!
a little criticism here - you got a lot of lovecraft lore a little wrong. The main character/actor is beautiful! Who is she?
Ah! I see! Amy Schweikhart! Lovely actress. Well done. I will keep an eye.
Here Be Dragons 🐉
Not enough actors?
Naga
Still watching, is that Wes Studi?
Jawal Arwel- To the Norse America was called Vineland.
I like the story, the acting was a bit cheesy at times and the effects were ok.
I don't like how you made him scream to his wive. he wasn't ever that evil in the story
8:32 - is that Paul Giametti?
Nope. Bob Balaban. We couldn't afford Giametti and he's afraid of snakes. And small budgets.
Bob Balaban played Dr Chandra in the movie version of "2010: The Year We Make Contact", as I recall.

...this one is a little awkward
The acting is kinds crap and the snake creature is far too visible and kinda tacky.
Still by far the best adaptation of a Lovecraft story ever filmed.
and anyway im the joker in the pact.
Gawd! The thing looks like Caitlyn(No Really Bruce) Jenner!!!
