Thank you very much for sharing this splendid, very interesting and inspiring, and so beautiful video, Daniel 😍 Here in the South of Finland it is currently a grey winter day, with ice and snow. Those vibrant colours of your piece of art brought so much happiness. I did some silk painting more than a decade ago. Seeing all this beauty in your video, I'll start my hobby again. You got a new subscriber from Finland.
Thank you so much. I had bought the dyna Flo water base paints green label. After watching the turtle video I ordered the setasilk you used. The only thing I’m having trouble getting is the G&S liquid color diluent. Canada won’t ship it for some reason. Thank you for all your answers for my new journey with these mediums.
I have finally mastered making your cone to put the Gutta in. but I haven’t been able to find the long metal tip you have in yours. Any link you can share or size or how to word it to find one would be of help. thank you so much.
Thanks for the prompt and articulate response.sir, please tell me te difference between the diluent andmedium.what i have with me is silk paint medium .it looks like diluent but exact properties are not known to me as i cannot read what is written over it.Many thanks
Do you have ny vote demonstrations on your technique and your supplies you use? I enjoy all your videos on RUclips, but I wish they were more verbal explanation of your supplies and technique. I’m watching, but I need to know what the materials are.
I’ve worked on the acetate roll like what you use. I think I’ve got it now. Not sure where to get nibs to fit now. Can you share your site to order? Your work is so inspiring.
I’ve worked on the acetate roll like what you use. I think I’ve got it now. Not sure where to get nibs to fit now. Can you share your site to order? Your work is so inspiring. Last week a Dharma company representative mentioned they thought you were coming out with your line of Silk Paint. Is that something in the future that will happen?
Hi there Daniel, I wanted to touch base because I finished my batik Kaftan workshop today, and experienced something I need your expertise on. The kaftan was Rayon. We used Batik EZ resist. I tub dyed the kaftan after the resist dried. Once I rinsed the kaftan, the resist did not penetrate the fabric and the stamped image disappeared. Any idea what could have happened? BTW, I'm Jewish too.
Hi Linde, I am sorry to say but I am unable to help you as I only specialize in working G&S cold water based wax resist and water-based silk paints using small sumi bamboo brushes. I have not worked with dye for over a decade and I am not familiar with Batik EZ resist. Might I suggest this Facebook group facebook.com/groups/silkpainters/?ref=bookmarks, they may be able to give you a solution.
Hi Daniel do you ever iron steam or use any fixative on your art can you please advise I wanted to make a scarf and came out beautiful bright colors after ironing and washing the gold Gutta is choppy and red Dynaflow is a pale thank you
Hi Tatyana, I work with Pebeo seta Silk paints which cure upon drying. I only use silk paints for creating paintings to be framed and not for apparel. I would recommend silk dye for the production of scarfs, silk paints look less bright after washing because the paint sits on the surface of the fiber and washing shrinks the textile changing the appearance of the color as well silk paints do not feel soft to the touch. So use dye instead.
Ey thanks so much. So is possible to wash the material after working? The color does not go. I study batik in indonesia. I see you have a canting made out of plastic? You made it yourselve? It looks easier to make the wax lines with that. Thanks so much is so beautiful what you do .
The material can be washed but it will appear duller unless the washed silk is mounted and bonded onto a stretched canvas with an artist polymer to show bright colours again. I do not was my pieces, they are framed behind glass. Yes I have developed an acetate resist applicator, very easy to use.
Sir,your paintings are amazing and you have your own signature style. As advised by you I saw your video but could not gather what mixture you apply on silk before applying colours. The voice in that particular video was not clear.is the application half water and half diluent or half water hlf alcohol. Please also explain the difference between diluent and medium. I aadded half medium hlf water to paint on silk but the fabcric became stiffer and the effect looked like that of the fabric paint or say acrylic paint.where did i go wrong?please advise.
Thanks for the great feedback. The mixture is half water and half diluent www.gsdye.com/product717.html. If you want a soft touch finish you need to use silk dye instead of paints. I use silk paints for framable art.
Oh wow, im a libra, nothing takes a day for me lol...I have to think, then think some more...your art is beautiful and inspiring to other artists, even just watching you work on you tube, is refreshing. Thank you for your kind reply
So gorgeous! 😍 Can I know about one thing please as I am new to the subject! Are we supposed to use “Silk Paints” as it is or do we need to mix them with more water to get the base done? Thanks in advance! 💜
@@DanielJeanBaptiste I love your works! Especially I love the way you apply gutta. What is the applicator called and from where can I buy it? Thank you!
I could understand why you do not steam them. With steaming the colors bleed and blend to form a look of non professionalism.. and that way when you don't steam them they are in a picture perfect behind glass.. so lovely.
are you self taught? or did someone teach you? I see you use Wax for your lines, so nice they seem to be taught on the silk not to spread to other colours.
I am a self-taught artist, I was introduced to silk painting in 1981 when I worked at Display Arts of Toronto and produced commercial silk painted backdrops and decor banners. The technique was introduced to me by artist Betty Nelson Daniel but I started doing my own research and testing to evolve into a unique silk artist.
Hi Daniel love you work and your style You give me also much inspiration on the days when I feel lost as an artist all I have to do is watch your videos I want to ask you some questions and advise about pricing but I am not sure if you want it to be on public replies is there an email I can send you my q thank you with deep admiration
It does not stick because I use bleached Kraft paper and this is a wax water- based resist. Other water-based brands conatin starch and do end up sticking.

Thank you, I am honoured.
Is that use wax before coloring? Very nice, naturally
Thank you. Yes, it is a water based wax resist with silk paint added to it.
Beautiful. What tool is that you are using for the Gutta?
Thank you. This video explains: ruclips.net/video/0W_R9i8OmMw/видео.html
Is this water-based paint that just has to be set with heat?
Yes, in fact, the paints just need to dry in order to set.
Thank you so much.

Espectacular, precioso, SUBLIME............
Lovely
Is that a melted wax in the cone?? Or the gutta?
It is Resistad water-based gutta.
What gutta do you use, and do you iron it before painting?
Jacquard resistad gutta, yes I iron before painting.
I’ve worked on the acetate roll like what you use. I think I’ve got it now. Not sure where to get nibs to fit now. Can you share your site to order?
Your work is so inspiring.
Thank you . The acetate applicators do not use nibs; you simply roll the acetate to the desired size. www.jean-baptiste.com/
Spettacolare! Complimenti
Thanks.
Is it a regular fabric outliner ou use initially ?
Lovely piece of Art 😍
Thanks, it is silk mounted over line art on kraft paper.

Thank you for liking my art. I wanted to license my name to a silk painting brand.
What kind of paints do you use? I want to try..
Pebeo Setasilk Paints.
Soooo beautiful and love your style of painting, i learned so much from this .thanks alot.we need anything to mix with colors and ,name of silkcloth?
+Athiya Nasreen Thanks, I paint on 10mm Habotai silk using water based silk paints along with a diluent for mixing colours
Thanks a lot for your reply sir.
And sorry any natural colors that you use? Gracias!
Великолепно! Такое интересное сочетание цветов.
большое Вам спасибо
Hi, which colors do you use to paint? how do you fix those colors? what material you use to fix them? Thanks, is very beautiful what you do.
I use water based silk paints, some of the brands are Setasilk, Dye na Flow, and G&S Dye silk colours. All these paints cure once the painting is dry.
OMG!!!!wish i could learn n do work like you😕😕😥😥
Befor colouring you wet the cloth?

how did u remove the gutta from the fabric..
I do not remove the gutta as I have the pieces framed as fine art pieces.
@DanielJeanBaptiste but sir I want to know on a fabric technique of removing gutta..if u know

Hiya, how many hours did this take, or on average, how long does each piece take? Thanks.
The hardest part is creating the line artwork composition, this can take 1 - 4 days, adding resist takes one day and painting takes just about a day.
Oh wow, im a libra, nothing takes a day for me lol...I have to think, then think some more...your art is beautiful and inspiring to other artists, even just watching you work on you tube, is refreshing. Thank you for your kind reply
My pleasure.
So is that a soft wax? What kind of wax is it? Thank you
It is a water based wax resist from http:gsdye.com

Hi, this video explains the process. ruclips.net/video/pPueSJ92U0M/видео.html
Name of the song, ilike it
How come your outlines, do not look thick and white? (That’s a good thing)
I add silk paint to my resist and I use a fine tip applicator.
@@DanielJeanBaptiste I love your works! Especially I love the way you apply gutta. What is the applicator called and from where can I buy it? Thank you!

Silk paints, unlike dye do not need to be steamed, they are polymer based pigments that cure upon drying.
bellisimo!!
Flia Vitale Thanks.
Daniel Jean-Baptiste very beautiful work, do you offer classes or workshops online?

I miss sea grapes 😋
What have u used for out liner???.
In a cone,??
This video explains it all. ruclips.net/video/0W_R9i8OmMw/видео.html
How are the pencil marks not covered by gutta removed?
I do not draw with pencil onto the silk. The silk is sitting directly bonded to the paper over a marker drawing, so I only apply gutta.
ahh - and it does not stick to the paper underneath?
It does not stick because I use bleached Kraft paper and this is a wax water- based resist. Other water-based brands conatin starch and do end up sticking.
