    Hi Jacob - how are you feeling about it now that it has been over 6 months? Thanks!

    I just purchased this and used your link. The $75 discount was nice. Payment plan was $62/mo with Affirm, not bad. I plan on using this in the living room, and i had already purchased a Winix 950, which was also highly rated, before i saw this one, but the Winix will go in the bedroom. Since the Molekule covers more space i'll just keep it in the living room which is actually pretty open. I have horrible allergies, mole and pollen sensitive and have 2 dogs. I really hope this works because it is quite more expensive then the Winix 950.

    One of the issues I have with my Molekule is when I replace the pre-filter, it still reads as if the pre-filter needs changing, despite a new one being inserted. I've tried this twice already, and was sure to dust inside of the unit to remove anything that might be making the unit trigger the pre-filter replace setting. How do users fix that to ensure that the Molekule triggers the replacement warning when the pre-filter actually needs replacing? Thanks.

    • @jacobhuggins
      @jacobhuggins  7 лет назад

      I had the same issue. You have to wait a little while for it to reset. It will be automatic though. You may just need to wait a few hours for it to recalculate and all. Not sure why it takes so long, but it worked.

    • @Husani759
      @Husani759 7 лет назад

      My problem was solved when I wrote Molekule to inform them of the issue. They asked me when I changed the pre-filter. I told them, and they reset the indicator for the pre-filter remotely. Given this, now I wonder if the device detects the pre-filter life, or if it's on a timer of a sort. So people can select if they have a pet or not, and the indicator gradually changes until a certain amount of time has elapsed. Eventually the device will indicate that the filter needs changing, but it might not be a result of the device detecting dust and other particles within it, but rather, because of a predetermined amount of time/usage passing. I'm speculating though.

    How do you guys compare to trusens air purifier?

  • @2QRh6g1I
    @2QRh6g1I 7 лет назад +1

    So here's my concern. The nanoparticles coat the filter and as dust builds up inside, the light on't be able to reach the nanoparticles to activate the PECO effect. It'll lose effectiveness over time. Thoughts?

    • @jacobhuggins
      @jacobhuggins  7 лет назад +1

      My thoughts. You have to remember you are talking about nanoparticles. It's nano. Molecular. In comparison there was some ceramic filter material I would use for my fish tank years ago called Biomax. The total surface area in the filter media that would come in the small box was over 25,000 square feet of space. I'd say it's going to be basically the same. It will take a long time for that to fill up as the pre-filter catches most particles up to a pretty small particulate size before it even reaches the nanoparticle filter.

    After you removed the pre and nano filters to check them out, did your Molekule reset the percentage used for the filters?

    • @jacobhuggins
      @jacobhuggins  7 лет назад

      It did not. That's actually a really good question. On the filter meter there is a red zone. I assume when it gets into that zone and then you pull it out, it will likely ask if you just inserted a new filter.

    I have been looking for an air purifier ... do you recommend this product ... is the price justified?

    • @jacobhuggins
      @jacobhuggins  7 лет назад +2

      I have 100% agreed that it's worth it. Absolutely. I have had hardly any allergy/congestion issues when home. Especially compared to before. Knowing that i'm breathing some of the cleanest air around, in my own home is a huge relief to know. Homes are typically 5x+ more toxic than outside. So definitely good! I look forward to confronting Ragweed season as this machine quietly busts through the air! :)

    I've done some research and read some studies. The most recent one points out that all PECO technology, working with UV light are actually producing toxic ozone, in various quantities. The most transparent PECO tech producers actually disclose this. The problem is UV light. That does, most likely, explain the strange odor, it's probably ozone. Also, nano particles embedded in a filter are volatile, therefore they will get released into the room, probably not a good idea. I've read an article on geeky-gadgets about a purifier that works with visible light (I think they own a bunch of patents), it's called Brid Air Purifier. It uses ceramic filters that does not need to be replaced, because you can simply wash them, it does not produce ozone at all, because of the absence of UV light and it obviously does not spread nano particles, as they're embedded into the filter permanently. It does also cost a fraction of these purifiers and does not have tricky and expensive replacement filters. It basically has the same performance, without the long list of drawbacks (Replacements, ozone, loose nano particles. price, etc.). Also, the use of carbon filters, in some of these purifiers, is ancient technology, as it needs to be replaced often and it get contaminated very easily. The filter shown in the video will obviously need to be replaced within a couple of months or 6 times a year. That's unnecessary and expensive maintenance. Also, how do they monitor the efficiency of the nano filter and how those nano particles are escaping it?

      Molekule reports that it tested for harmful levels of ozone when using the product and found that it does not contribute to dangerous levels. help.molekule.com/hc/en-us/articles/218864897-Does-Molekule-produce-ozone-

      UV light, by default, produces ozone when reacting with titanium dioxide. Do they explain anywhere how they avoid this? I don't see an answer to this problem that makes scientific sense. According to this article from 2015, the only way to avoid ozone is the use of a visible light reaction:
      www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2015/07/150715130835.htm I am not sure there're photocatalytic purifiers that use visible light on the market.

      @TankerCola I was thinking about maybe ordering one of these since it has 4 patents and is the only air purifier that uses visible light to destroy pollutants. www.kickstarter.com/projects/maumau/brid. it would be nice to get other peoples opinions on this BRID product.

      Wow, this one seems really cool. I've spent sometime looking at the page you suggested and from what I see and read I am impressed. Someone has finally found a solution for getting rid of uv light. The look is also really sexy and the filter is pretty awesome too. The overall project seems miles ahead of anything else on the market. Thanks ZMH. I don't have a kickstarter account, but I am thinking to get one of these babies, the price in very enticing, maybe I will wait until February, although it seems that retail price will be in line with other purifiers on the market by then.

    How is this better than having a UV light installed in your HVAC air handler?

    • @Dirty_Bear22
      @Dirty_Bear22 7 лет назад

      oppinoy first of all most of those uv HVAC lights do absolutely nothing as more often then not are not properly sized to the airflow of the handler causing poor efficiency. Even if they do work right they only work on very small organic particles (Bactria, viruses, spores) and have no effect on synthetic dust particles. The other thing is that HVAC systems are rarely kept on enough hours of the day to accomplish a effective 5-10 air exchanges per room per hour. the best approach is the appropriate amount portable air purifiers depending on coverage needed. Also stay away from gimmicks like the one in this video, you can get much better for the same price.

  • @carlosbl416

    Jacob, aren't you worried that it uses free radicals to purify the air and it seems nobody knows where those free radicals end up? I send an email to molekule to clarify about the free radicals and I got no reply.

    • @fscvideo1
      @fscvideo1 7 лет назад +1

      I can answer from them, as I learned it from an ongoing Kickstarter campaign, called Brid air purifier. Free radicals have a lifespan of fractions of seconds. Either they bond to other elements in order to vaporize them, or the die almost instantly. You should be more concerned about ozone production, which is generated by UV light. Apparently brid air is the only one that does not produce ozone, as they use patented technology to avoid using UV light.

    • @mokahusky8244
      @mokahusky8244 7 лет назад

      Except Molekule explicitly claims that they *don't* produce Ozone, since they're using lower-energy UV-A light instead of UV-C.

    I decided to delete my last comment because even though the app does not work for me, doesn't mean it will not work for anyone else. Molekule's customer support was wonderful getting back to me with my concerns the very next day. They did say they would update the app soon, and they also sent me a return label if i wanted to send the machine back, which was very appreciated. I believe i know what my problem was with the Molekule not working like i thought. I have an older home with poor insulation, and bad weather stripping on the windows. On top of all that, i have a very large open floor plan, living room, kitchen and large open back room with no way to close any of them off. Too big of an area to purify with one machine. I basically would need at least 2. So i put the Molekule in my computer bedroom i spend most of my day in and immediately noticed a huge difference in the air. The machine does indeed work, but given the factors of my home, one purifier for such a large area is just not enough. Once the molecule is paid off, i plan on getting 2 more purifiers, probably not the Molekule given the expense, but maybe 2 more Winix 950's which is awesome in my bedroom or the Conway mighty air which also got raving reviews both much cheaper. I definitely plan on keeping my Molekule.

    Do you think it's worth it?

    • @jacobhuggins
      @jacobhuggins  7 лет назад +7

      So far I do. I've noticed myself sleeping quite a bit better at night. Of course when leaving the house if there is a lot in the air it will get back at you, but when I get home and settle down for the evening the air feels a lot cleaner. We have had several days that the dust level is on the high end. Those days I get watery eyes when i'm out and about. When i'm home with the Molekule the struggle to not tear up with burning eyes goes away fairly quickly. The big thing for me is when Ragweed season hits. I'm very allergic to that and it is very debilitating at times. I won't know how that goes until closer to fall.

    This looks like a concrete HEPA vacuum cleaner. Meaning that it is like any other HEPA vacuum cleaner but has a larger HEPA filter to allow for more overall air flow.
    VOC are handled one single way - with activated carbon that needs to be replaced very often. Before you can sense the difference. So most likely the prefilter is a combination of foam and activated carbon.
    The website seems to show pictures of black mold being broken up + some kind of bluish glow which most likely adds up to a UV sterilizer. Nothing new.
    The design is cool looking. IF the filter is super quiet that is a big deal - it is hard to find even a normal fan that is very quiet. $800 may sound like too much but if the air is indeed cleaner it is worth it. Plus - a big size HEPA filter by itself is not cheap - $100 for a size that will fit this filter. So the money adds up if you use good parts.

    • @jacobhuggins
      @jacobhuggins  7 лет назад +2

      It's PECO filtration. The next step beyond HEPA. The MoLEKULE is the first mass produced in home filtration used with the technology. The inside of the Nanoparticle filter (the larger filter) is treated with the particles, which when reacting with the light breaks the smallest of particles down to their natural smallest molecular components (i.e. A mold spore is literally turned back into h2o, hydrogen, etc). I did work in the pet fish industry for over 6 years, so it could definitely be compared to a UV Sterilizer. However, it still goes much further than that, as nothing is being sterilized/neutralized, but rather is being obliterated to the molecular build of the contaminants. Carbon is not part of the filter build as I have seen in countless other filters through the years.

    • @GreatWhiteNiko
      @GreatWhiteNiko 7 лет назад +2

      So how are the VOC handled without activated carbon?

    • @GreatWhiteNiko
      @GreatWhiteNiko 7 лет назад

      I can't find any information on the Peco website.

    • @jacobhuggins
      @jacobhuggins  7 лет назад +1

      Honestly, i'm not a pro at this. I just know what i've learned from researching the product and PECO filtration. PECO stands for Photoelectrochemical Oxidation. The way it appears is that the chemical/molecular reaction that occurs happens from oxidization. So, i'd say it's oxidized? I just looked at the Wikipedia page for PECO and it explains it a tad (I know it could technically be changed by anyone, but you know). It's simply the reaction in the way the technology works. No carbon is needed. Hence, the first type of filter available to average consumers with such technology is the Molekule. It's basically an entirely new and technologically innovative air purification product. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photoelectrochemical_oxidation
