I've only just started the video but I have to confirm your theory on her dressing sustainably, you're correct! She crafts a lot herself and shops secondhand but in more than half the red carpet photos you used of her she's wearing Vivienne Westwood. As far as designer brands go, Westwood is one of the most sustainable! The brand is heavily inspired by a mixture of british punk and 18th century silhouettes so of course Helena loves it, but that also means they're all about reusing and remaking!
Just to add to this - Vivienne Westwood herself is one of the creators of punk and punk style (she helped unite Sex Pistols in her old, handmade shop and dressed them! Her 2nd husband was the manager of the band as well), she's a little punk old lady that, to this day, fights for justice and the environment :D She organizes and participates in a lot of protests!
People who don't understand HBC is actually high fashion are removed from reality. If people think about the Olsen twins or Sarah Jessica Parker... high fashion, but with Helena they don't. Because there is a goth element to her look? I don't get it. She's a legend.
Because she’s not their body type or American. She also really only works with one designer and thrifts on her own clothes so she’s not as marketable in fashion. I’m sure her being gothic plays into it but she’s not accessible to people to who make money off of the Olsens or SJP so by their tastes she’s not worthy of their industry’s positive labels.
She doesn’t let other people dress her. She doesn’t promote brands and accept PR free stuff from luxury brands. She’s not trying to sell you anything. That’s why the public loves her and the media hates her.
Aside from Helena's lack of color, she truly is your style icon because she's as committed to putting weird shit together and making it WORK. Also, don't forget to do the sunglasses WITH the widow fascinator.
Gods, yes! Also, I think she'd love the style summaries: "Edwardian Cabin Keeper with a Political Agenda" - just from hearing that, I want to dress like that.
as someone that loves Helena, only buys second hand and bloody LOVES Halloween and celebrates all of October omg I absolutely bloody loved this video!!
So this isn't directly related to the video but I think you'd all appreciate this possibly little known Helena fact: she's a big fan of Hamilton (the musical), so dresses as Santa with full fake belly and beard to hand out the Secret Santa presents to the London cast on stage before a show in the week before Christmas. (I used to work at the theatre and one day walked through stage door to see HBC as Santa. Turns out wasn't hallucinating.)
for that dress that wouldnt close, try chucking some eyelets in it and having it lace up. That could be a fun continuation of your learning to sew video: making things that dont work work. You might need to throw a busk or some boning in it to give it some structure, but I believe in you!
This video exudes joy. HBC's style is really not my style, but I kept smiling and thinking "yeah, that's really a really cool outfit". Some ideas: -Seeing she wears a lot of ruched skirts, you could try to create the same effect with a few safety pins, some temporary stitches and/or a hair tie on the inside. -You could remove the button and the buttonhole loop from the jumpsuit and go "Unbottoned? It doesn't have a button, the open back is a feature!"
These videos are teaching me so much about having fun with my wardrobe and finding my own style and not dressing too much like a boring adult - thank you so much! Also - I would love to see a Sex Education wardrobe video! :)
As someone who dressed like Helena for 2 years this video has reignited the need to dress like this again! My one addition to your outfits is to add knee length socks and let them fall down the leg a bit. It can really make any outfit into instant helenacore :)
Thank you for reminding me that even though we’re grown ups, clothes are still allowed to be fun! Thanks for giving us a lil glimmer of dressing up joy :)
Coming here to comment that Leena, you can just move the button on that jumpsuit!! Move it higher up or lower down so you can reach on your own. If it looks too tricky try adding a metal hook and eye. Or try that zipper idea!! A great opportunity to practice making your clothes work for you!!!! Love, a person who has to take in the waist of every single pair of pants she owns because body proportions
Yes! I was thinking this too or even remove the button all together. I see no problem with the open back look, could even layer that tartan second skin shirt under it and get a cute pattern moment :)
This was the video I didn’t realise I have been waiting my whole life for!!! I would wear all of these outfits - and actually the stripe dress that doesn’t fit one way with the shirt that doesn’t fit another was one of my favourite outfits. Also very much into the big collar dress in the mash up at the end! Can I enquire as to the shade of that delicious Lisa Eldridge (I think!) lipstick you applied - the brown one?
haha Well spotted. It's Velvet Decade and it's SO unusual, I love it. Glad you liked it, I think the big collar will come in handy at the end of the month when I run out of ideas - just throwing it over anything ups the drama by about 1 million.
I am almost 54 and still don't wear 'grown up' clothes. Snag tights, old goth wear, layers nobody asked for and 50's style spotty, skull or stripey dresses are core staples of my wardrobe. You keep having fun, Leena. I love the Helenacore. It's fantastic!
first of all, love this concept and video...second of all, idea of the almost-but-not-quite fitting stripe dress but what about removing the back zipper entirely and replacing it with a corset style lace up back?
Rarely have I been called out so effectively as with that casual 'lip liner is for the unspontaneous, what can I say'. This was a joy to watch, absolutely fab job
Oooh, I've an idea for the long black formal dress - I noticed a lot of her dresses/skirts are ruched/draped/asymetrical/hiked up somehow... Is there any way you could pin it up in front to make it look like a high-low hem? Or on the side or something? Or maybe knot it, or tuck a bit of the hem into a belt? I think it could look really cool that way!
About the jumpsuit: How about doing a lace up back for Helenacore? Perhaps with a ribbon? You can loosen it enough to get in and out of it with ease or adjust how open the back is for different looks. Even tuck a kerchief or bit of lace as a contrasting faux modesty panel with a few pins if you want to change the look.
I am still watching the video so don’t mind me while I add… add a headband to frame the deliberately disheveled hair and when you wear your glasses up they don’t get tangled. Bonus you can pin curls to the band when hair does not want to hold a curl. Also Witchy CEO is my aesthetic.
Yes yes yes! love this idea. Also: i think Rachel Maksy needs to see this. Trying out different aesthetics and Halloween are part of the things i love about her channel
ill always appreciate these style of videos. youre so creative and playful, and just moving directly in the opposite direction from extremely classy and fashionable channels that buy designer
Why have I never thought of looking to Helena for outfit inspiration? I love her style! I'm definatly gonna try to incorporate some Helena type clothing into my wardrobe!
I was thinking with the waistcoat at 17:57, if Leena paired it with a long sleeve shirt, it would give a really amazing Princess Bride/ 1800s Romantic adventurer look, and something I feel Helena Bonham Carter would approve. Same with the Victoria does 1980s business jacket at 19:40, a white shirt underneath would give a cool like vampiresque vibe.
Same. I came straight here from a very prescriptive black, white and beige "wardrobe basics" video 🤢 Why do people assume basics have to be bland and growing up means you have to look boring?
Umm this was incredible !! The energy throughout this video was insane ahah. Also I knew Helena had amazing style but I didn’t know it was that good ! The ridiculous layering, that pink skirt just everywhere ?! Incredible stuff
Awesome video. Now I want to return to my 'Emo' days when I absolutely just had fun dressing with an Emo vibe.😄 And Helena core is actually fun to inspire to. Thanks for the inspo from Germany!
Yes!! I’ve “grown out of” emo style but I feel like I used to have waaay more fun with my outfits when I was a teenager who paired fishnets or colored tights to every outfit!
I was literally thinking "I hope the black see through shirt makes a come back" and it did! I'm glad you found a way to make it work! Also that shirt literally became all the things I look for in shirts and I'm never been more proud of my wardrobe since I found your channel! I fully embrace my "clowncore" (?) Esthetic and I'm not looking back!
Everyone seems to love HBC, i've never heard anyone say they don't like her. She is such an inspiration to women and so influentual and cool. She's a national treasure and icon.
28:34 leena constantly sticking her legs up into frame when she's talking about what tights or shoes she'd pair with an outfit is really cracking me up 😂
Hah! As someone who is now 40 and refusing to go quietly into the outfit night, I admire this video whole heartedly. Loved the burgundy dress with the wide belt and petticoat. I have a bunch of Victoriana and random shapes that make up my wardrobe, along with textures and a lot of black. Not as cool as HBC or you, but enough to make me feel like I don't blend into bland.
This is iconic and truly inspirational! After a year of feeling iffy and being stuck inside, it's time for a personal re-entry/overhaul and to live my best witchy black/shambolic tartan life!
The fancy "red/Christmas pink" would fall more on them with a second skirt added but ruffled(?) Hiked up in the front or the side. Would really be a vibe
Love this theme and the exploration of "adult" wardrobe. I too have the Lucy and Yak Addison jeans addiction. I have 2 pairs and want like at least 3 more, but I live in the US and the secondhand Lucy and Yak market is a thinner over here, and they no longer ship internationally on Depop so I can't get my hands on the cheaper slightly flawed ones 😢
I love everything about this video 🤩 Feeling a bit of pressure to dress more grown up... Somehow no-one can escape it. Where does that even come from?! But putting the Helena Bonham carter spin on it is genius! 💃🏻 Although I would say you could also have gone for a velvet coat or any piraty double breasted coat with gold buttons to achieve a Helena outerwear look. Of course the rainbow jacket makes it so Leena again. Great finish! Looking forward to seeing your daily outfits 🥳 Your styling videos are my faves 🌈
What a talent you have for putting together outfits! As someone who cannot for the life of me make cute outfits with any degree of confidence this kind of videos fascinates me! Thanks!
Gibson Girl on the Run From the Law is such a glorious name for a sty.e! Love your style, love the Helena Bonham Carter style! They somehow fit perfectly together. And mad respect to any celebrity who doesn't waste her money, time and influence on dutifully following The Trend.
I have been on a journey to return to my old day of wearing mostly black soft goth stuff and this is an aesthetic I can defninitely vibe with. Actually I think it really works for you, and I love all outfits except for the jacket...
So… neither your nor HBCs style is mine, but I absolutely enjoy your outfit videos and the joy that comes from them. I could never really pinpoint it but I‘ve alwaysloved HBC. She just seems so very much herself and confident in who she is. Stunning woman
never clicked a patreon video so fast, love me some creative fashion! it's funny coz i already think you have a Helena-y style just less gothic :P my faves were the vest with the polka dot see through blouse and the all black blazer look!! and i also adored the last look with the rainbow puffy jacket !! (also 10/10 By The Sea singing btw) sidenote that belt that emulates a corset is genius and i need one like that in my life to wear over long dresses
Aw I'm so glad! Yes I think I totally had the dishevelled look nailed before, now I'm just making it more goth. Whoever thought of adding elastic to a corset belt needs a Nobel prize ;) x
as someone who has been matching my novelty (pumpkin, ghost, mushroom) berets to my equally novelty massive (pumpkin, ghost, mushroom) earrings, this video just makes me feel ALL THE THINGS. I love Helena, I love playful style, I love THIS. All the stripey things, yes. Now I feel better about currently filming spooky outfits that all have very playful feelings because why not. Yes, i'm in my thirties, yes, I still wear novelty print and funky items, I do what I Waaaaant. ahaha.
Hey, I loved this video! Your outfits were so creative and darkly whimsical, I really think Helena would approve! A suggestion for the striped dress that won't zip up - maybe insert grommets down each side and lace it up with some black satin ribbon to create a corset detail? Easy to undo, and you can put the bow at the bottom instead of the top so you can actually tie and untie it yourself. Either way, thank you for creating content focused on sustainability without losing any fun!
So I just got dumped a day ago and this week at work has been immensely exhausting but this video was such a delight! I was smiling like crazy at every turn. You're just adorable.
You are SOOOOO fabulous, I really have no words!!! You have given me faith in humanity. Your energy and sense of humor is extradinary. I have a new lease on life!
Loved this video!! I've always admired Helena's style and I think you did a great job at recreating it. Im now really inspired to try and make my clothes that don't fit work as I didn't think it could be done ☺️
So I put on a bunch of weight during pandemic, and this video is whst I needed. Seeing someone else also struggling to close their clothes... it makes me feel less alone
I love seeing the ways different colours are combined. I'm trying to figure out how to add more brights into one outfit so the examples are always well appreciated!
RE jumpsuit zip: You can just tie something onto most zips so you have something to grab. The little ribbons that lots of clothes come with for hanging them up work well.
Plus, you could layer that infamous pink linen skirt over every single outfit that you put together here and double your Helenastic lewks! I think Ms. C must be your spirit guide. Her aesthetic is completely adorable on you. This was a brilliant homage. I really hope she sees this! Subscribed!
This video was so. Damn. Much. Fun! Leena, you outdid yourself! I was already feeling like doing a try on, outfit generating, from the back of the closet party, but you made me be excited about it even more!
Intriguing concept. I enjoyed watching this and it seems like you really enjoyed making this one which was sweet to see. If I had to choose 3 words to sum it up I’d choose fun, frenzied and flashing 😆. Absolutely love the peplum blazer and rainbow puffer 😯. The point about losing your outward expression as you age is so true! I have siblings who are like that and they don’t really get my style choices and recently I too have pondered on conformist fashion…I guess I’ll just have to wait and see cos I’ve got a lot to learn ☺️
I love this whole concept so much??? And (as someone whose shoulders are consistently too broad for a shirt that fits the rest of me) wearing too-small shirts as jackets is such a good idea.

Her look reminds me of some very cool Asian street fashion that I've seen before, as well. Super fashion forward.
I think part of it is her age
Because she’s not their body type or American. She also really only works with one designer and thrifts on her own clothes so she’s not as marketable in fashion. I bet helena would adore this video
that is the highest praise!
I keep looking for a comment from her! I’m manifesting it.
Agree. I hope she comes across this one day and watches this. I really adored this video as well. It brings all the happy feels out!! :)
Someone needs to get this video to Helena! I feel like she would approve of all of these looks 100% especially the rainbow puffer coat!
Absolutely!!
My new dream in life is to have a reaction video from her 😍

I cackled when the rainbow puffer jacket came out, oh my, I am very much looking forward to seeing how October goes!
Yes, I'm going to be attempting to document on instagram, I am also looking forward to seeing how it goes lol
For the jumpsuit that you can’t zip up yourself, you can thread a ribbon through the zipper so you can pull it yourself

Helena is like every Tim Burton character IRL and I love it. I love that she doesn’t care.

Easy to undo, and you can put the bow at the bottom instead of the top so you can actually tie and untie it yourself. Either way, thank you for creating content focused on sustainability without losing any fun!
Oh my goodness I haven't thought about the borrowers for at least a decade. What a film.
Those interviewers are so god damn rude!! They would not say that to a man ...I THINK SHE IS FREAKING AWESOME!!! Thanks for this !!
This is such a fun concept, love all of the looks
Yes yes yes I love everything, all the black outfits with dark lips, all the stripes 😍😍😍 This vampy aesthetic is really cool and suites you!
So I just got dumped a day ago and this week at work has been immensely exhausting but this video was such a delight! I was smiling like crazy at every turn. You're just adorable.
Omg the purple dress with the corset belt !! 😍😍 she really said ⌛️⌛️⌛️
You are SOOOOO fabulous, I really have no words!!! You have given me faith in humanity. Your energy and sense of humor is extradinary. I have a new lease on life!
Loved this video!! I've always admired Helena's style and I think you did a great job at recreating it. Im now really inspired to try and make my clothes that don't fit work as I didn't think it could be done ☺️
haha yes, it's totally possible, you've just got to think outside of the box... or waistline ;) Glad you liked it x
This is my favourite out of all of these outfit videos you've done, leena! All of the outfits looked so good on you! Esp. the first black dress
i come back to this video all the time. love it so much, one of my all time faves on youtube
*HELENA'S OUTFITS ARE A DREAM 🦄🪽✨🦋 REALLY EXPRESSING HER EMOTIONS 🎀 MY GOTH GIRL 🩶 I'M HELENA OBSESSED I WOULD WEAR THOSE*
I ADORE you in the vampy black look! I neeeed that blouse
RE jumpsuit zip: You can just tie something onto most zips so you have something to grab. The little ribbons that lots of clothes come with for hanging them up work well.
I love every second of this
This is lovely... The dungarees story, too, love it!
That Puffer Jacket looks like 80's Rainbow Brite. Rock it!!
Omg I love the rainbow puffer jacket!!!
OMG I am so here for HelenaCore. Please let this be the next big trend!
leena and the technicolor puffer coat
27:02 Bless you!
I've definitely made notes on her style before but you analysed her style so much better than I did! What a great video!
Absolute *chef's kiss* on this one.
