That black dress/gown looks gorgeous on you! I applaud you for wanting to get rid of anything that you won't be wearing in the next few months. BUT! That being said, as someone who works retail, I have seen too many folks panic at trying to find a formal and flattering black dress under a time crunch. Having that in your closet will mean you're always ready for surprise formal events that come up on your calendar quickly and then you won't need to go out and buy one that might not feel as empowering.

How you feel about second-hand clothes is how I feel about plants for sale outside supermarkets (dunno if that's a thing over there, though.) Like, I know I have twelve other ferns, but if I see a sickly one outside a store that I know will just be tossed out at the end of the day like garbage, then I'm about to have thirteen ferns.

An idea with fancy clothes is to wear them for sit down videos. That way you get to feel pretty and dressed up but still comfortable. So many of your dresses had really cute top halves!

No chance expressing how much I love the fact that you kept the playing dress up dress 🥰 we used to have a very old chest with stuff like this. I kept an elegant purse of my grandma.

oh i'm glad you mentioned the fear of needing clothes and somehow not having access to clothes hence stocking up in advance. i feel like while the pandemic has allowed me to streamline certain aspects of life...it's made me worse about clothes because i'm hyperaware of any changes in my body (minor or major) and this in turn causes me to fixate on fit and comfort and presentability. at one point i bought two pairs of the same kind of pant in two different sizes "just in case," even though this was arguably not necessary. i also bought dress pants (??) for whenever we go outside again and need to wear pants that aren't flowy linen or sweatpants. that was six months ago and i have not worn them once. definitely going to go through the closet soon and donate things or give them to friends.

You look soooo good in the black dress up or down dress 20 mins in! If you could replicate the style and use it's pattern pattern to sew out of a different material, it would be so worth trying in a vibrant and happy print like you usually wear.

I was just watching the part where you tried on your formal dress and was pondering if you could wear it regularly, when I remembered that I was wearing a sequin top while cleaning out my rabbits' enclosures. Additionally, I remembered that one time when I went to the grocery store while wearing my head to toe glitter jumpsuit. I guess what I'm saying is: go for it, rock it on a normal daily basis :D

just got to your white "aspirational" dress... there must be something about that dress type and the hatred of our own bodies lol because i have basically the same "aspirational" white dress stashed at my parents house... i have always been able to wear it but it has buttons on the front which GAPE and unless i lose weight specifically from my boobs we will never be friends... seeing your dress reminded me and i hope my dress now knows that her days in the cupboard are numbered

As for the sparkly top if you want to make it an "everyday" top go for it, but I believe in keeping special occasion clothes if you have the space and occasion for it.

Dress at 27:27, take the top button and sew it where the second is supposed to be!
I've lost a few central buttons and found repurposing the top button (which I rarely use anyway) has been a life saver.

I'm also going thru this process (not in one instant, but over some years) of stopping the mentality of "I'm broke and I just need clothes I can afford that serve the job" and instead adopting the mentality of "if I'm not wearing it, it's not serving the job" bc I think the mentality of investing was difficult for me to engage in. I am now working on steadily throwing out (donating) clothes I don't like or wear and purchasing clothes that I do like and want to wear to fill the gaps in my closet I need to fill bc Ive had top surgery and I now can see that having the amazing feeling and Confidence that good clothes can give you is worth pursuing.

Regarding the dress with the missing buttons, you could replace all three buttons and save those two for future sewing experiments. If you don't want to buy brand new buttons, you can get secondhand/vintage/antique ones on Etsy and Ebay, or at vintage/craft fairs once those are a thing again. Much easier than converting it to a v-neck, though it does look lovely like that! I'd love to rob it from you, but alas it is very much not my size :D

I’m a new viewer and working backwards through your videos and noticed something fun. The robe-like dress, with spliced black/white leopard and reddish orange floral is pretty similar in construction to the Maya Ruffle dress from Daisy DIY that you’ve made. Love to see that you’ve been able to recreate a style that you love.

I also pretty much exclusively shop second hand and I felt like you were speaking directly to/about me with the scarcity mindset/sentimentality behind "saving" really cool pieces from thrift shops... I acquire and keep too much because I want to save and love everything forever! ...When you popped the Angels and Airwaves tee on and talked about not needing to wear the thing in order to keep loving it- I NEEDED TO HEAR THAT SO MUCH!

that thing about giving a home to clothes you find in charity shop hit close to me. if I find a nice piece that I really like but it's not in my size, I put it nicely on display in the hopes that somebody with my style and the right size can pick it up and take it home ... And I'm not quite sure if I do it to be nice to the next person or actually just to make sure that piece of clothing finds a home 😂😂
