- Hey guys, in this video my sister and I will be comparing UBC and UofT in terms of 5 categories for anyone who is struggling on a decision between the two or just wants to know more about the universities! We get into details we haven't seen people discuss like room specifics, food and even social life. Nina goes to UBC and I go to UofT, we are both nearing the end of first year but filmed this video a few months ago.

Just a side note. My son just graduated from Chemical Engineering at UofT St. George Campus and he was offered a job before he even graduated. He got the offer on April 24, 2020 and started his first amazing job two weeks after on May 11, 2020. This happened during the COVID-19 pandemic when so many people are losing jobs or finding a hard time finding one. UofT is a tough school, no doubt, but it’s the best investment we ever made. Now, the funny thing is my newly graduate son is earning more than me just on his first job (and I thought I had a good pay!).

@@ani9514 Thank you! It’s almost one year now since my son first entered the real working world in the pharmaceutical industry. My 2 cent advice to anyone is - never ever give up even when it’s tough! Work smarter and harder. Wishing you the very best!

I'm at UBC and my first year housing was in hemlesem in totem park and my room was massive. it was a single connected which basically means that you have your own large room and your roommate has her own room and its connected in the middle with a bathroom. so no communal bathrooms and can i just say our bathrooms were so big as well.
omg im an incoming first year who got assigned this exact same res and room and i couldn’t find anything about it on the internet! thank you
also u can share bathroom with opposite sex

thank you this was so helpful! ubc was my first choice for so long but i haven't gotten my decision yet i only got into uoft so i'm trying to figure out if that might be better for me and tbh i think im leaning more towards uoft! i have a question though, does not living in res affect like making friends by a LOT?
cat g I would say yes, especially at u of t if you’re not in res or friends with loads of people in res you will find it harder to make friends. Ultimately you’ll get out whatever you put in, if you spend more time looking for friends and making connections you’ll be fine

I know this video is two years old but I am a potential transfer student to either of these schools. What is it like making friends on both campuses? I know U of T has a reputation for having only competitive and commuter students so it’s hard to make friends.

Hey, I'm a high school student in Australia and really want to study in Canada.. I think I heard you mention that you were an international student? Could you guys maybe make a video about the whole process you's went through to come and study in Canada as international student? I haven't been able to find too many videos about it and it would really help! I also was wondering if you guys got scholarships or something because I'm interested in going to UBC and for me I think its really expensive (for the program I want to do it's like $60k a year) and I'm pretty sure we can't get loans or anything as international students? Same here, I finish ib school around a month ago and I'm taking a gap year. I rly hope to go ubc, but the the fee is too high(( Do you know anything about loans, scholarships for international students? Ik there are things that are provided by the uni itself, but it's risky to just rely on that. Do you have any tips?
@@svetaerofeeva1141 I think there are some scholarships! Go to RUclips and search ubc scholarships international students and you should find them. Or look through their website. I think the scholarships r pretty competitive though but I’m not sure

Can I get accepted if I got less marks in 11.
I am currently a 12th grade student and planning to go Canada for my undergraduate degree but little bit confused to drop one year for extracurricular although I have my NCC certificate, District Science fair certificate as well as State level Science fair nomination certificate and somewhat 6-7 school certificates including 3 camping certificates. Is this enough to get admission in University of Waterloo or University of British Columbia etc... and to persue a good Scholarships. Or should I drop a year for my extracurricular ?

i was rlly upset i didn’t get into university college and was admitted to new college. if i’m in a single room is it easy to make friends without a roommate? that’s one of my concerns
having a roommate almost automatically make them your friend if you both like each other although it could go the opposite

Are the colleges at Uoft only for those that are in the faculty of arts&science? Or is it for other faculties as well? Also, do u choose ur college or r u assigned one?
Hi! Colleges are only for undergrad students at ArtsSci! Postgrad programs-Engineering don't have that system! It's made to distribute the students into smaller divisions and communities in the huge undergrad population lol! And you get to list your colleges in order of preference when you apply!

I’m going to UBC. I like the weather in BC. U of Toronto as far as I know is very competitive in certain programs and living cost is very expensive, not that ubc is any different
UBC is such a beautiful school! I’m from Vancouver and my dad is a prof there so I’ve been visiting campus my whole life! I love it! I recently got accepted :)
UBC's housings are really nice except for a few older ones. I am pretty sure most of the second or upper-year housings are pretty new and many of them have ocean views!
i've heard many people at u of t (downtown) are stingy with the notes and it's a super competitive and cut-throat school, how accurate would you say that is?
kasia joy It really depends on the program, I know tons of people here who are more than willing to share notes, it may be different for more competitive programs but I wouldn’t say cut throat

That is just a rumour started by people who are probably jealous of UofT’s excellent international standing. My son just graduated from Engineering and he always had fantastic support from his friends and professors at any time of the day and night.

Ah, hello there. I am currently in Class 11 (Commerce) and I study in a CBSE school abroad. I've been thinking about applying to either UoT or UBC. Hi, I was wondering if you know how much is the estimated cost outside tuition fees (if you actually end up spending more outside tuition, housing and food) for international students in UBC? they have a website where you can see that. I know someone from Japan who is going to study at UBC Okanagan campus and she said she’s paying twice as much as domestic students

I got into UBC and UofT and most of the people haven't said good stuff about uoft so I am really confused about what to do.
At least res at Ubc is terrible, if you're an active male you'll likely be starving at some point in time. All university is stressful, but UofT definitely has a bigger reputation for that. If you're a Canadian then it will likely be less stressful to study close to home

Manav Kakkar u can use ur tcard to pay at essentially any uoft service (so yea all of the college dining halls), they also accept card

Muna Mohamed In the video i showed my full transcript of marks! And extracurriculars honestly weren’t that extensive, i did gymnastics for a few years and a charity project I started myself. It all depends on how you frame it

@@flyzone2257 both are pretty diverse, but id say that ubc has more Asians (mainly East Asians ) whereas uoft has a broader range of races, if that makes sense

Hey PRAVANAN SADA, I just googled UBC and apparently suicide also happened there. My point? It happened in other universities and not just UofT. To all of you young people, suicide is a delicate topic and this is every mother’s nightmare. I encourage you all to keep yourselves physically and medically healthy, use all university resources, take care of yourselves, and with your many talents and the support of your loved ones I’m sure you can make it!!! Isn’t that right, PRAVANAN SADA???

Hey, I applied for Computer Science in the St. George campus but I got accepted for my alternate major. So is it easy to switch majors in UofT?

So listen. This year UofT changed the rules completely. The admissions to CS were made much more competitive. The reason is because now they are giving admissions guarantee to all students who got into CS.
Earlier , there was no guarantee, EVERY student had to compete to get into CS. So, even if someone got into CS the first year, that might NOT mean that they have CS for all 4 years!!
In fact, many people couldn't get into it. For eg: out of 1100 students, only about 500 would actually get into CS from the second year!
HOWEVER, this year, they made this change that every CS admitted student has a guarantee.
MOST applicants were deferred to Math and Physical Sciences (which I am guessing what you got deferred to too!).
Because of this, the competition for out-of-stream students would be higher. And the spots for CS for you guys would be lesser, considering that many spots have been reserved for Direct CS admits.
So, it'll be pretty competitive for you guys, but, having said that, it is definitely possible for you to get into CS from another stream, but you'll have to put in the effort!
If you believe you truly want CS, you'll get in!

So, I got a comment from my earlier post here from a certain PRAVANAN SADA but I couldn’t find this person‘s comment. I am a 58-year-old mother And I am busy working full-time and I’m not going to go over all of these comments just to find PRAVANAN SADA. This person asked about suicide in my post about my son’s very positive experiences and him finding a job during this 2020 pandemic. Dear PRAVANAN SADA - do you know how to use Google? All you have to do is Google suicides in Ottawa University, Queens University, University of Waterloo, etc., and you will find that sadly suicide happens in many, many universities. Unfortunately, this is now happening in your generation. Perhaps, this will be for another topic, a broader one, wherein kids like you can help other people and not put a a blame on anyone. I finally found PRAVANAN SADA. And hey, I just googled University of British Columbia and suicide also happens there. This is not to shame UBC and other universities. I’m just saying that it happens everywhere, sadly, and maybe someday this can be discussed because trust me this is every mother’s worry.
