Damn, I wish the filters were washable! I usually rinse my rigid shop vac filters out (and then dry them with a fan afterwards) - it always keeps them super clean which is the name of the game for good suction
would you use this for vacuuming the floors and hardwood in the house? Does it keep clean enough for rugs? We are looking at sharks, and Dysons for the house but I am in the Milwaukee world for batteries so I like the idea of swapping batteries vs having to have another eco system of batteries like Dyson or sharks. I also like the idea of using it for the shop or cars.
The Milwaukee is good on hardwood floors. I just wish the head was a little wider. With rugs it’s hit and miss depending on the rug pile. The upside to a Dyson is the weight (my wife says the Milwaukee is too heavy) as well as some the Dyson floor (rotary) attachments. The Dyson batteries stink though and tend to only last a few years (and they’re expensive). I recently saw an attachment for the Dyson handhelds on Amazon that allow for attaching a Milwaukee M18 battery. The adaptor looks rather awkward, but I’ve considered trying it given all our Dysons are beyond the warranty period.
Which has better suction? One of the handheld Dysons, or 0882? I think the Dyson batteries can be swapped/upgraded. So I guess the other concern would be things like weight/size/accessories/noise/cost
The Dyson handheld vacs have better suction when put on max suction; however, they only run at max suction for 5 minutes or less on a full battery. After that they either overheat or the battery dies. I got an M18 adapter for the Dyson V6 handheld, which allows me to run the vacuum on max suction for longer using an XC5.0 battery, but the vac motor gets pretty hot. My favorite vac for cleaning the house, which I’ve had for a year now is the Dyson V12 detect slim. It’s both a handheld and stick vac. It’s lightweight, has a swappable battery, lots of attachments, a laser light to see dust (only on the roller brush), and is easy to maneuver. The trade off to its weight and size is that it needs to be emptied more often than the larger Dysons (V15 detect or outsize models). I predominantly use the Milwaukee 0882 in the workshop and basement, for small sanding jobs, and to vacuum our vehicles. The Dysons are definitely better overall for cleaning your living space, but they’re not intended to be used as a shop vac.
Any chance you’ve used the Milwaukee M12 Hand Vacuum? I was wondering how it ranked up to the M18. It looks to be smaller in size and I’m just looking for something to keep under the seat in my dump truck to keep the dirt cleaned out of an evening. Thanks!
Unfortunately, haven’t tried the M12 handheld (reminds me of the old Dustbuster vacs). From what I’ve read it’s loud and suction isn’t great. I’d say it also needs a hose for better maneuverability in a vehicle. If you try it out please post back. Would love to hear what you think. I have used the M12 FUEL wet dry lunchbox which is stows easily. The lunchbox does fine with dry debris, but shines when draining toilet tanks. Ha!
Did you know about the adapter you can buy online to install on your dyson to be able to use power tool batteries? They have one to use with milwaukee/Dewalt batteries and another for other brand batteries. Makes the Dyson worth having!

Thanks for sharing that. I’m really surprised to hear the motor wore out although if it was the motor, it was likely something as simple as the brushes wearing out (the vac doesn’t have a brushless motor). I had to send my vac back to Milwaukee because I started having the “switch issue,” which is not actually the switch, but a faulty sensor. They didn’t bother to fix it and just sent me a new one, which I’m beating the heck out of before it’s out of warranty. 😁
@@samuelonthewall just curious how long you’ve had the vac and when it started to fault? Mine started having issues after about a year. @@BruceAlanR I'm sure that I bought it over 5 years ago. But I have an email thread with Milwaukee from 2 years ago where I explain the problem, initially thinking it was battery related. So I emailed them today and hoping they will pull some strings, even though the warranty is likely expired.
Great idea! I’d review it if I had a budget. 😃 I remember looking at it, but didn’t think the reviews were very good (too many 1 star disappointments). Also seemed rather bulky for the limited dust bin capacity.
I have pulled out the filter and had a fully charged 5.0 battery and it still timed out. I use this for work but it's a pain in the ass. I love the compact size but I hate the intermittent running

This unit is the worst tool I've ever bought. As one reviewer put it, pun intended, "this vacuum doesn't suck......at all." From day one it barely could suck the dust and tiny bits on a car seat. Worse performance with the dirt on a car mat. Dust from drilling 4 holes in plaster? Over a minute sucking to the point I had to collect the dust with a brush and push it to the nozzle. I've checked everything, and there are no blockages or obvious reasons for the poor suction other than it's not capable. I don't know what 40CFM is supposed to be like, but If this puts out 40CFM, then that's not enough to suck a tiny leaf or sawdust. In my three decades of buying and working with tools, I've never wanted to smash one against a wall like I do with this.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I’m a bit surprised yours doesn’t have much suction. It sounds like something is up with the vac. I recently started having the switch issue (sensor issue) where the vac would turn on and off after 30-40 seconds. Since it’s still under warranty I used Milwaukee’s eService to file a claim and mailed the vac back to them after which they sent me a brand new one. The new one works even better than the first one.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I use mine pretty much every day. I’ve found suction definitely decreases as the filter gets dirty or battery depletes.
Loved the editing in this video. Made watching this interesting and fun
Thanks for the kind words and feedback. 😃👍

Yeah. Whether it’s air purifiers or vacuums, washing HEPA filters in general is tough.
I use this for cleaning up when i have to drill a few holes for concrete anchors
Me too! Thanks for sharing that. 😃👍
@@BruceAlanR sure beats having to roll out the big vacuum and unwind the cord just to vacuum for 2 minutes and have to wind it back up

I'm on my 3rd vacuum it would always turn off so the sent a new one. On the invoice it just says motor is worn and nothing was wrong with the switch.

Mine has the same shut-off problem. Now I'm armed with information I will be contacting them for a replacement. It's terribly annoying.

Can you lock the trigger in the 'on' position so it stays on without having to press it?
Yes
Hm manual says you can use it on liquids. Do i Have to remove the filter then?.
This model is not a wet vac. You can NOT suck up liquids. If you do, it’ll fry it.
Can an m18 12ah battery be used on it? thank you for your reply
Absolutely. I have HD12.0’s and use them. Just makes the vac a bit heavier.

Walmart Hypertough 1.5 gallon 2.0 hp is way better and cheaper but it's corded. Cleans like magic though.
Ha! Thanks for sharing that. I love vacuums!
Thats the problem its corded
What battery would you recommend for house hold cleaning?
I use an XC4.0 or XC5.0 for everyday cleaning.
Why do you say the filter can't be washed? I wash mine all the time and let it dry out before using again.
Interesting! Milwaukee says the filters aren’t washable, but now I’ll have to try it. Thanks!

Ah! When does it tend to shut off? Is it when the motor is over taxed when something clogs the nozzle or is it possibly the switch issue?
