It's a beautiful result of a collaboration between a rock star and an opera diva, yes it was his dream. Montserrat remembered to that night this way: "While he was singing, I noticed that his eyes were shiny with tears. I gave him my hand. He clasped it and kissed it. It was clear he was suddenly aware of his own fate. They were tears of farewell. It was his goodbye, at least to the stage."
It is really beautiful. Freddie is pure power a genius, the powerful and angelic voice of Monserrat, they made a celestial fusion, 2 unforgettable legends a treat for the ears Many kisses Guapa
Definitely Linda - you know when an artist is good, humble etc like Freddie was , the fans tend to be the same. It shows that you attract what you are. Thanks for being on this journey with me and others. I appreciate that 'very' much. Have a blessed Sunday dear Linda . Psyche 🙋🏽♀️ 🌹 p s. I've got a good one coming up shortty aboit Freddie and Queen x
What a fabulous gift they left the world. Thanks to forums like youtube, new generations for hundreds of years will be exposed to the most fablous music ever Love you both RIP
This is pure perfection. How marvelous for these two great souls to collaborate on this song. It is sad as he was talking about his coming death. He loved her and she felt the same. I'm so glad they found each other to give us their perfect music. Freddie did it all. He was the music. A jewel in the sun.
Probably my favorite with the two -- they were so clearly in love! He dreamed of singing with her, and she later said that she learned a lot from Freddie - especially about "freedom" in singing...
Freddie and Montserrat (Monci) developed a wonderful friendship and had a mutual love of music Have you ever seen an opera singer have such fun on stage. Thank you so much for playing this. Anne
How their musical journey intersected is a fascinating story. At first glance these two iconic singers from 2 different music world-Freddie Mercury the flamboyant songwriter and charismatic lead singer of the British rock band Queen, and Montserrat Caballé the renown Spanish classical operatic soprano-were unlikely to collaborate and much less succeed-but that’s what they actually accomplished when they teamed up in 1987 to record the album-Barcelona-for the opening of the 1992 Barcelona Summer Olympic Games (Caballé was born and raised in Barcelona). How Can I Go On was one of four hit singles from that album released in October 1988; the single in January 1989; this video of their duet performance was in 1988. When they first met in March 1987, they found out they have much in common artistically; Freddie was a fan of opera and a huge admirer of Caballé since 1983. Although he had a baritone voice for his normal speech, he sings in the tenor range reaching those high notes; in his live performances he was dramatic and theatrical-something that Caballé could easily relate to in the world of opera. But most importantly, they found chemistry, rapport, and mutual respect as they worked recording the album and performing together in live appearances. He had revealed to her of his AIDS illness during this time and sadly he passed away in November 1991 at age 45-about seven months before the opening of the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. She sang their beautiful duet of “Barcelona” during the opening ceremony with Freddie’s part captured on video and projected in a large screen onstage. She passed away in October 2018 at age 85. Fortunately we have their beautiful musical legacy recorded and in videos. Thank you for your heartwarming reaction and for sharing this video.
A correction-in October 8, 1988, at the La Nit music festival in Barcelona, Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballé performed 3 songs from their new album; Barcelona, the Golden Boy, and How Can I Go On (covered here by this reaction video)-to welcome the arrival of the Olympic Flag from the 1988 Seoul Olympics. This turned out to be Mercury’s final live performance. The official recording of the Barcelona song duet was played as the overture for the worldwide tv broadcast at the very beginning of the aerial view of Barcelona’s landmarks leading to the Olympic Stadium in Barcelona to open the 1992 Olympic Games. Caballé performed the song live with Mercury’s voice recording as the title music to BBC’s coverage of the Barcelona Olympics. It’s during the opening show of 1999 UEFA Champion League final game held in Camp Nou stadium in Barcelona that Caballé performed “Barcelona” live with Freddie Mercury’s recorded part and image appearing on the stadium’s electronic screen.

Hello Peter and Partner, I do hope you are both well. Such a lovely comment - I hope they are making wonderful music in heaven - as said and you can see, when they start singing the sun shone through the dark clouds - quite a moving moment for me as I'm very much into the Universe! Have a wonderful week and thanks so much for stopping much. Lots love Psyche 🌹🙋🏽♀️✨x
Fue real y ahí está para que eternamente los echemos de menos. Los sucesos excepcionales suceden una vez en cientos o miles de años. Una belleza así es difícil que vuelva a ocurrir. Que inmenso legado de felicidad nos dejaron. Gracias, mil gracias❤️
Just beautiful 😢 This normal not makes me emotional, but now I’m bawling my eyes out. Oh dear, thankyou for this reaction. Two greats who are dearly missed. That’s what I love about music reactions, it keeps them alive in some way. Much bless and love!
Psyche Dear, THANK YOU SO MUCH for sharing these recent Freddie performances... They really warm my heart/lift my spirit.💕 PLEASE, add to your Reaction list: "EXCERCISES IN FREE LOVE" (Freddie's ORIGINAL 1987 audio DEMO, the pic is just Fred in a tux... NOT the later re-orchestrated version, Fred's vocals are not as pronounced... and definitely NOT the video montage of Fred/Montse, that's just confusing/makes it seem like Montse is singing!) ALSO, please add "ENSUENO" (Fred/Montse's duet, the finished version of the "Exercises In Free Love" demo)
