im so happy to see this posted james brown was known as the hardest working man in show biz he truly was great but since i started listening to govt mule and saw how many people warren plays with and the long hours he can play for i started calling him the hardest working man in show biz great post
This is by far my favorite cover of this classic song... And I adore it, when he says : "G-d made George W. Bush, but man told him what to say" and "Maybe one day, we'll have a black man or a woman at the White House". Fantastic, I reckon his late brother wouldn't have totally agreed with him, but we'll never know, and sometimes, people do change and evolve for the better and open up their minds...
Mule tore into this song at the Fillmore in Denver a few months earlier to much surprise. I was floored by the presence of Warren on stage during this song. It was huge. God bless James Brown and Warren Haynes!
it's not fair, all the best words have already been taken. I see beautiful, the best, great, perfect, molodosti moea-whatever the heck that means, brilliant, awesome, holy shizz. I guess that about sums it up.
I heard the last lines of the first verse as "man made the bullets for the war, like Noah made the arc" which may not have been what he actually said, but it makes the song even better.
Mr. Haynes is not playing a Jazzmaster - as misidentified by Yayhoo Tube - it's a Gibson Firebird. He could, however, play blues on a Jazzmaster, or any guitar.
Joe Bonamassa used a MusicMan John Petrucci model ,while recording ''The Ballad of John Henry'',in the studio,Frank Gambale & Andy Timmons have played some excellent Blues stuff with Ibanez Superstrat models. On the other side, guys like John 5 or Jim Root play Metal with Telecasters. The guitarist makes the tone, not the guitar.
@Undertaker878 It ain't "A Tail of 2 Cities"...... got that in front of me. Matt was't playing a super deep pearl kit .....was a Slingerland. Awwwwwsome cut though!!
I'm a musician too. I went to college in the 60's. The problem is that most musicians don't know shit about what their talking about so all they end up doing is pushing their own personal, somewhat uninformed opinion's down everybody's throats. Also there seems to be an almost universally Liberal mind set among musicians so they certainly aren't independent thinkers. For the most part I don't like it when musicians and actors push their politics but it's their right to do so.
I particularly like music with a politcal point of view. A lot of the best music that came form this country IS political. Music comes from within a person they play music first for themselves than for an audiance. Trouble today is that muscians are more worried about making money than being true to themselves.
W.T.F. A Jazz Master ?? Suggest you get a new "How to identify guitars" book friend and look up Gibson Firebird. If you're going to slag people off, at least get your facts right ! Anyway, check out the variety of songs and styles Warren plays. If there's not something in his vast catalogue that you like, then you must be dead from the neck up :->
I wasn't bashing him or this, and I know Warren Haynes is great. All I'm saying is this didn't do as much for me as I expected. I guess I'm not too big on rock though...
Yayhoo Tube obviously knows nothing about what a real bluesman would do - Mr. Haynes is playing a Gibson Firebird - not a Jazz Master. But I guarantee that he could play some fine blues on a Jazzmaster - 90% of your tone is in your hands and head - a real player knows that. Also, his silly mock conservative rant outs him as being your standard 14 year old troll.
Hi Steve , i own jazz master from .18 . feb .1966 and you all ready wrote the only truth about guitar playin' ( i'm luthier and musician ) : " - 90% of your tone is in your hands and head " THE FINGER MADE THE SOUND whatever off guitar ,amp or gimmick ignorant people think they must buy for better playing ..... thank you for comment and greeting from Croatia
Yeah, obviously you play blues on a tele or a strat, probably why BB King and Freddy King use 335 esque Gibsons, Albert King used a Flying V, Luther Allison used a Les Paul, and the list goes on. Maybe go listen to some blues that isn't SRV or John Mayer??
I for myself use a Gibson copy that cost me exactly 99 australian $... I told the salesman I was looking for something not too expensive or flashy, and when he came and showed me, I knew right away it was to be mine. I don't believe you need more than a guitar that feels right in your hands, sort of an extension of yourself. I'm no good player by any means, but playing & singing take me to yet undiscovered heights & dimensions... That's all I ask...
+Ben Hussell Agreed, you can play the blues on (almost) any guitar. The guitar, the pickups, potentiometers, the strings, the amp, the pedal(s) and the player in unison create the tone :)
Sorry but what does "Art" have to do with politics? The two don't mix well. The fact is that expressing ones political opinions probably pleases just as many people as not expressing them (you're just pleasing a different crowed) so what's your point with that statement?
If you don't like his views, please feel free to listen to someone else. The songs he writes all have something to say but we love him for his talent, funk & blues style. Warren Haynes, the busiest man in rock n roll

This is by far my favorite cover of this classic song... And I adore it, when he says : "G-d made George W. One of the best covers. You can listen another amazing cover played by Dave Meniketti...
The best solo by Warren haynes I've heard! Pure amazing!!!!
Heavy, tight, rockin', bluesy, with a lot of soul. I like it !!!....PeaceLoveBlues,,,spread the news !
Wow! This proves that there is a such thing as a soul, because that is where this masterful cover came from.
soooo good reminds me somewhat of this year's collab at mountain jam between mule and karl denson
Warren is Great. Thanks for posting
Mule tore into this song at the Fillmore in Denver a few months earlier to much surprise. I was floored by the presence of Warren on stage during this song. It was huge. God bless James Brown and Warren Haynes!

This is incredible, cudos to Warren for having the balls to speak his mind about the mess George Bush made for us and our children.
Listen to the mule song "high and mighty" it was definitely written with W in mind.
An outstanding....no - extraordinary - cover.

I heard the last lines of the first verse as "man made the bullets for the war, like Noah made the arc" which may not have been what he actually said, but it makes the song even better.
Such a great guitarist, he is now with the Allman Brothers and is making quite a contribution to tht band.
PERFECT COVER, GREAT!
I love JB and i love the original but this is fucking brilliant!
As a final comment; Government Mule is such a fantastic band that I can overlook their political commentary.

He ainst saved shit Warren but u still the man
could someone give me some tips to get that "cutting" guitar tone? can't sound like him, but at least to get as close as possible
JB would be proud
Gov't Mule covers "a man,s world" by James Brown...
his guitar cuts like Freddie King`s does.....
Страхотно изпълнение!!!! :-)
You're exactly right...shut up and play your instrument (yes you Eddie Vedder)
i am glad all of you like this man so munch. But i just think James Brown is the best that will aver be when it comes to this song have a good one
Aside from the vocals, this is better than James Brown🎸🎷🤘💪🔊🤪

PS, I think the Iraq war was a mistake but it certainly didn't take a Musician to tell me that!

James Brown is the man, and I've seen Gov't Mule live but this just didn't do much for me :/ I don't understand
I wasn't bashing him or this, and I know Warren Haynes is great. All I'm saying is this didn't do as much for me as I expected. I guess I'm not too big on rock though...
Go Trump Go ;-)
Whereto, Russia?
am I blind or is this the blurriest concert video ever?

Art is self expression. Not sure you are fit to evaluate anything if you don't know that. So how about you just shut the fuck up and let Warren talk?
I liked it until he added political commentary in the lyrics. Do musicians not understand the need to escape politics?
sounds like someone doesn't understand musician's need to speak out when THEY feel that need
I was thinking the same thing, Michael.
If you don't like his views, please feel free to listen to someone else. The songs he writes all have something to say but we love him for his talent, funk & blues style. Warren Haynes, the busiest man in rock n roll
