    Be prepared to have the old gasket baked on the transmission, and very little room to scrape the surface clean. The trans lines will be in the way, the exhaust manifold will be in your way, the cooling fans will be in your way, the radiator hose will be in your way, and lastly the huge wiring loom will be in your way.

    I overhauled my 41TE 1997 DGC, (with 270K km, I'm the 2nd maybe 3rd owner, and my first car in Canada and no budget for shop overhaul). It has downshift bump when bought it and after a year of careful use and maintenance (tranny & engine change oil), it went to "limp mode". It will not shift to 2nd or 3rd but has the reverse. The code (I can't remember the #) says "internal mechanical issue". I replaced all plates, clutches, rings, 2 speed sensors, UD clutch, checked/cleaned/flushed the solenoid body, torque converter, pump, new ATF+4 but re-use the old solenoid pack. Before that I tested this SP and the ohms are good within specs. The reason is I can still replace it later if the downshift bumps persist. After the overhaul, all codes were gone but the bump is still there, just like the tranny was before the limp-mode. After running some +300km., I replaced the SP with new Wagner. The van works well smoothly during road test but reverts to its old bumps today just after some 50 km. What else should I need to check/do to remove the bumps, there's no code. I know that if I these bumps continue, it will to totally erase the spline of the sun and planetary gear assembly. I found out this was the reason why the tranny went on "limp-mode", because the assembly was no more mechanically connected and not driving the shaft due to total loss of spline. I replaced this assembly in the overhaul and did the air clutches test with good results. I have not yet tried the re-learn by scanner. Please help. I love this van. Thank you for reading and advise.

    You didn't cover where to find the part on the transmission.

    • @clamo6362
      @clamo6362 6 лет назад +1

      patchedboard. It's right on top. It may have a rubber cover over it. In the clip you can see the cooling lines right above it, but I don't see any cover. On mine.....94.....its got a cover. If you don't feel comfortable doing this job, don't. The last thing you need is to damage the trany.

      It's pretty easy. Just remove the air filter cartridge and the air inlet plenum. The solenoid pack is directly underneath.

    p0700 code check engine, then two days later ..got hard clunk..then a few miles later, coasted to a stop. The car would not park or drive in gear. White smoke from the top hole.. local shop said to rebuild, but I do not know if that has to be done. How do I tell what needs to be done? Can anything be done that is like this solenoid install and topping up fluid to fix it ?

  • @thephnxtrading
    @thephnxtrading 5 лет назад

    I just replaced solenoid on 2010 T&C, and I drove it around to see if issues still existed(putting into gear and not moving/driving and it goes out as if its in Neutral) once I got back it was leaking trans fluid. Should I just put back on original solenoid? I adjusted dowels on New 1 to match Old 1(all the dowels was pretty much low close to be flush level to surface)

    next he drive it a few times up the street and is there a speed to stay at he said he also went over 60miles,
    then i drove it up an down just to see how it feels, i didnt drive it fast but then i felt a slight pop then the check engine light went on.
    should i of drove it for 30mins after it was installed an why?
    anything we need to look out for again.. the codes i got was p0700 and p0760.. haven't checked it again. but will as soon.. when i have the money..

    Car would automatically go high on the rpms, hesitate on the shifting, and feels like it is losing power uphill. Will the solenoid fix the problem.

    • @RobbyJHope

      This is similar to the issue I was having before the solenoid failed and threw me a check engine light. I pulled codes and it identified it as a solenoid in the solenoid assembly.

    hi exelente video .
    my only question is I did mine on a 2003 Dodge neon did everything according but did not tab the guide like you did with the hammer I just installed as it came but did first the middle bolt then the one on the right then the one on the left then lose all and re tight same way as before have no leaks you thinks is ok, I also replace high and low pressure sensors but still have little rought shifting from first to second downshift seems fine.

    So I do have the P0700 code, but how do I diagnose and narrow down that it is in fact the shift solenoid? All symptoms point to it but is there a special scan tool for this seeing as it's looking like an electrical issue? Thanks!

    • @RickyHicksGeminiGlass
      @RickyHicksGeminiGlass 7 лет назад

      Go to an auto parts store and have them use the OBD II scanner. You will get a complete list of error codes, what they mean and where you should take the car and burn it.

    • @areohwhyM
      @areohwhyM 7 лет назад +1

      My 2001 Caravan has actually been great to me for it's age and mileage, and I have no car payments so no need to burn it yet.

    • @RickyHicksGeminiGlass
      @RickyHicksGeminiGlass 7 лет назад

      I am just a little frustrated. But the first part of my response is correct. O'Reilly's auto here in AZ gave me a complete printout of all issues.

    • @areohwhyM
      @areohwhyM 7 лет назад

      I scanned it myself and got the P0700 code then I went to a transmission shop and they used a special scan tool and it showed tranmission computer fault and that I'd have to leave the van for more diagnostic, but I am pretty sure it was this solenoid but he just didn't want to tell me because I'd just fix it myself. I found the solenoid and two speed sensors (which could also be the issue) for $150 CAD shipped all in, won't hurt to try it.

    Hi what are the 5 or 6 bolts right under the solenoid pack? I saw that they were out so I tightened them up which I’m thinking now if that was a good idea. I see in your caravan I can see the bolts are backed out too? From top view with the solenoid pack out you can see the bolts/screw right below gasket area.

  • @equipt4sound
    @equipt4sound 7 лет назад

    Have any tips for extracting a snapped solenoid mounting bolt? Unfortunately I watched a youtube video posted by MotorCity Mechanic and the guy posted that the torque value was 106 in. pounds and confused the measurement by saying 20 ft.lbs for the speed sensor, why I don't know... I mean how many torque wrenches read in in. pounds. Guess transmission repair work for him is a way to make big bucks by making things unnecessarily confusing. So the plan here is to heat the casing up and try grabbing what remains of the bolt to back it out.

    • @clamo6362
      @clamo6362 6 лет назад

      equipt4sound. You need to use an easy out. Drill a hole in the broken bolt, then find a easy out bit to get in the hole. Use heat on the out side to help. Bolt should come out.
