There were so many cars on the highway, we were lucky to get there Thursday and found a spot in a field to park. And walked the rest of the way. So many great moments, and the band's were great, to wake up with the Who one morning and to wake up to my Favorite..Jimi with the white fringe glistening so glad we stayed until late Monday...course it was a traffic jam leaving, but no hurry. The weather...we didn't mind..we had brought some food and water and other cool things.!! @@reijosalminen7502 oh I agree with you. Dylan is awesome, has been before the Beatles and Stones came on the scene. And my 1st concert was The Beatles in 1964, And love the Stones since the 60's, have seen them 6 times, just saw them in 2019..I missed their recent tour last year, I'm in Florida and they played in Tampa, but I couldn't make that one. But I am ready to see them now. Bob Dylan will be here in Florida next month. I'm trying to get tickets..those 3 are the best, and it would have been great to see them at WOODSTOCK!!!

Peace for all...
Ten Years After's Going Home and Santana's Soul Sacrifice were better than The Airplane and Country Joe, but I have nothing against either one. The Airplane is one of my favs.
10 Years After? I think they pretty much left it all on the stage at Woodstock then went to sleep. if we dig we’ll find them on here but it’s rare. They just flattened out.
I was somewhere else when Ten Years After played, but I will never forget Santana there. I met him and Jack Cassidy with Paul Kantner at Al's Attire in SF, Paul lived upstairs, and our Cafe was across the street. I asked Jack if he remembered being picked up by a kid in a tractor thing with seats attached. He said yes, and I said, I was that kid! We shook hands and he was really nice to me. Carlos too.
I agree with some of the other responses for me the highlight act was Alvin Lee & ten years after how he built the song up into a frenzy was magic but I also thought Santana session was terrific 😊

I was 10 years old at the time but as long as you include Hendrix and Cocker on there, you're all set. Wait a minute you didn't have Santana on there please. And what a performance on the acid man.
Although I am a massive Hendrix fan and fully agree that his rendition of the Star Spangled Banner is a masterpiece and deserves its place at number one, I do think that Santana's performance of Soul Sacrifice should be in there somewhere. Pretty much unknown at the time and reputedly on acid when they unexpectedly took the stage, they played their asses off with the very young Michael Shrieve giving a fantastic performance on drums.
@@johnnyneverletmedown53The Mighty Who would never say that they were the best live act at Woodstock so they had to say it was somebody else. The Who were the act to beat.

Interesting list of significant performances. I would have included Santana's "Soul Sacrifice". Apparently Santana's performance at Woodstock gave their reputation a big boost. I became a fan of the band, and saw them live 2 years later.
The Who by far had the most memorable moments, energy and songs. The Who were the giants of Woodstock. Everybody else were 1 hit wonders. The Mighty Who was already established as a giant on the stage.
I was there at age 17. Does this English accent narrator even mention Santana? Paid least, played the best and most moment. Also, Richie Havens made an impassioned and unforgettable contribution with Freedom. I had seen Country Joe and the Fish the year before at the unforgettable Newport Pop Festival in the broiling Costa Mesa summer of 1968.
Richie started the show with Handsome Johnny, a great anti-war song that really hit home. I was just getting to be draft-age and expected to be sent to Vietnam.
The Who were indeed amazing! Although they're not in this video, they do feature in our video about the top moments of the Monterey International Pop Festival! Which we would love for you to check out! ruclips.net/video/iR7YAt5ZdWs/видео.html
Top 5 performances in no particular order, Sly, Santana, Joe Cocker, Ten years After and (arguably) Richie Havens (because he opened, played every song he knew and made up a song on the spot)
After Woodstock regarding Hendrix rendition of the SSB music critic Al Aronowitz of the NY post wrote- " It was the most electrifying moment of Woodstock and it was probably the single greatest moment of the sixties"
Though the fish cheer was iconic, no argument there, but I would drop that in favor of Santana's set. And the Who's set belongs there as well. And as great as Joe Cocker was, if either Joe or Jimi has to get bumped, I guess Joe has to go. Airplane-Santana-Sly-Who-Hendrix.
Logistically this event was a total disaster. Food ran out. Rain soaked everything and coated what wasn't soaked with mud, As they said, scheduling was total chaos due to the traffic situation summed up best by Arlo Guthrie crowing "The New York State Throughway is closed, man". The only way in was by helicopter. Richie Havens opened the show because it was time to start and none of the scheduled opening act had arrived. Richie played for over three hours, running out of songs that had been prepared for his set with his band most of whom weren't on scene yet. He actually tried to leave the stage a couple of times only to be told that nobody else was there yet. His finale, the song "Freedom" was a totally impromptu performance being made up on the spot. Alvin Lee referenced the transportation situation when he introduced his classic by calling it "I'm Going Home" then adding wryly "By helicopter". After the rain finally settled down, National Guard helicopters flew over dropping dry clothes and supplies to help deal with the mess. At the end of the festival, Michael Lang and his partners were thinking that they had lost their collective asses financially. Vendors, staff, and musicians all had to be paid. As the festival began, it quickly became obvious that they were being completely overwhelmed and basically quit selling and taking tickets since the fencing had disappeared very early on. This meant that the only source of income was from the pre-sale tickets. Lang even said so in the documentary when he was asked how they had done financially. He literally laughed out loud saying "Are you kidding? We're taking a bath" He quickly followed that with a gesture toward the crowd saying "But look at this. You can't buy this". DOn't feel to bad for them for that though. Once they slept for a couple of days afterward, they sat down and started looking at what they had to work with and how to market it. None of the people backing this festival is hungry today, I'll guarantee that. With all that being said though, the spirit of Wavy Gravy and the Hog Farm in urging people to help each other ("If you're too tired to chew, pass it on") and the people in the medical tent and the "Freak Out" tent taught us that just doing what needs to be done and helping each other out will get us through a lot of crap.
They were all superb acts to be fair.. But if I had to narrow it down to a top 5.. It would be 1..Hendrix.. 2. Jefferson 3. Joe Cocker 4.. The who.. 5.Ten years after
Melanie and Janis Joplin. Worth the entire muddy muck of it all.need to Mention Richi Havens. He was the only performer there on 8.13. Played a long time.
Janis Joplin and her Holding Company. Santana...got to be in there. Since you have a bit of an English accent I don't think you know the new Patriot culture.
I agree with your selections, but WTF, only one small clip of MUSIC? For those who weren't there or haven't heard any of these bands before, just a voice explaining why the choices were made isn't going to cut it.
I was in Vietnam - my second tour. We got word of this while it was still going on. Bigwigs in Saigon did not want to acknowledge it, but a couple jocks on then American radio station played songs from Woodstock. They DIDNOT play Joe Cockers’ FUCK song however.
What a blast!💥 I’m 75 years old now. Wouldn’t change a thing. I drove from Twin Falls, Idaho in a 1949 dodge power wagon with five friends. What a hoot. What FUN ☮️😊❤️👀
Yeah, no better way to enjoy music than listening to someone telling you what was played and what it sounded like, without even so much as a snippet of actual music. This list is ridiculous.

Canned heat and Johnny Winter!

No question. And Alvin Lee was only 17 at Woodstock when he played that.

Leaving out Ten Years After and Santana?? You're not talking about the festival I saw
It was the best rock. I remember about it.
I read that even though Lennon and McCartney wrote With a little help from my friends. Joe owned it! No one ever did it as good or better!
They were all superb acts to be fair.. But if I had to narrow it down to a top 5.. It would be 1..Hendrix.. 2. Jefferson 3. Joe Cocker 4.. The who.. 5.Ten years after
Toate Geniile Rock Hard Rock Blues Și Pop Au Fost Acolo

Melanie and Janis Joplin. Worth the entire muddy muck of it all.need to Mention Richi Havens. He was the only performer there on 8.13. Played a long time.
Hard to believe people wanted to kill Jimmy Hendrix for daring to play his version of star spindle banner.
I agree that Hendrix should be #1
Actually The Who's music was better.
The Who.
Nothing more needs to be said.
Janis Joplin and her Holding Company.
Santana...got to be in there. Since you have a bit of an English accent I don't think you know the new Patriot culture.
Haha that’s me right after he says “give me a u”
❤i love wopdstok ok😅
"Don't eat the brown acid."
Woodstock wasn’t the send off of the 60s, not at all. The Stones did that at Altamont Speedway in CA, that was pathetic & sad.
Woodstock was more than 400,000 people.
I agree with your selections, but WTF, only one small clip of MUSIC? For those who weren't there or haven't heard any of these bands before, just a voice explaining why the choices were made isn't going to cut it.
you kids dont know shite there was 450,000 there at least . not 300,000.
I was in Vietnam - my second tour. We got word of this while it was still going on. Bigwigs in Saigon did not want to acknowledge it, but a couple jocks on then American radio station played songs from Woodstock. They DIDNOT play Joe Cockers’ FUCK song however.
WHAT HAPPENED TO THE “WHO” ? Kick out Country Joe and install “THE WHO” ! ! The had a MUCH Better Set than Country Joe ! !
Country Joe was pivotal and was the point.
Height of the vietnam war era
Country joe antiwar song!
THE single greatest performance at this show IMO was Joe Cocker's Lets Go Get Stoned!
Uno de los grandes momentos de ese festival también fue la inclusión de Santana band, con el gran Carlos Santana
What a blast!💥
I’m 75 years old now. Wouldn’t change a thing.
I drove from Twin Falls, Idaho in a 1949 dodge power wagon with five friends. What a hoot. What FUN ☮️😊❤️👀
Aha my grandsons name is hendrix
If Ten Years after is not on this list, then this list is bogus.
It's too bad we didn't get to hear these performances
Yeah, no better way to enjoy music than listening to someone telling you what was played and what it sounded like, without even so much as a snippet of actual music. This list is ridiculous.
No music, 8 and a half minutes wasted.
What about Alvin?????????????????
The who
Tim Hardin was also great.
