Great video! Well done to all to all who took part! Hope the weather is better next time! The marches played were, 1) 0:25-The Guards Chapel 2) 2:51-Birdcage Walk 3) 6:01-The March of the King's Men 4) 8:19-Bond of Friendship An additional point of interest: Note how most of the Woodwind section of the Massed Bands aren't playing their instruments. Flutes and Clarinets to be exact, this is due to (as the name suggests) the instruments in this section being made out of wood. Thus the name Woodwind. But, the Musicians have a little trick up their sleeves (Pun intended 😂). In case of inclement weather the Clarinetists will either tuck their Clarinets up their sleeves or under their arms. The flutist also have the same trick. The only instruments that is classified as a Woodwind and is usually still played in inclement weather is the Saxophone.
@@EurobouyWell, yes I forgot to mention the Bassoon is still played. But, can one stick a Bassoon up their sleeve??? Or under ones arm??? Rather difficult to hide a Bassoon 😂.
@@bugler75Hello Sir!! Hope you're doing well! As always happy to provide the info and marches! Also thanks for that bit of info about the Guards saluting the Battle Honours on the DMs Baldric. Best Regards, Delvin

Hi Delvin, thanks as ever👍🏼 You’re a well experienced man in the world of marching bands. You will also see the Guardsmen in Working Dress (Camouflage) saluting the Drum Majors as they pass. They are saluting the various Regiments’ Battle Honours embroidered onto the Baldrick (sash). I hope you’re well Sir! Ian
A bit of rain on the finest fighting soldiers in the world ! These are REAL fighting and combat ready soldiers, not Disney characters that so many tourists (especially Americans) think they are.
Crazy to go ahead - much discomfort to all and many of the woodwind instruments (most are personal items of these professional musicians) don't manage moisture and water ingress very well.
One thing I've always noticed is that British bands have very short breaks between marches (some as short as a three-beat drum roll)! A lot of musicians aren't finished moving old march card to the back and are not ready to play when the next march starts. Why don't they use flip files with their emblem on the back of each march card? They can also use plastic flip files for when it rains.
DM Daniel Fairley has only made a fw appearances from last year he even missed a few rehersals for the trooping. I would assume hes a busy man but seems he is stepping down from seniordrum major duties
The Massed Bands condense to ranks of 10 instead of the usual 20 to fit down Birdcage Walk. As most bands have between 5/6 trombones and on massed band engagements each band is only represented 4 across there are various spare trombonists. Due to numbers they are the used to fill in gaps around the massed bands for sickness, injury or other gaps.
They do have Capes for cases like these, but Capes as the person above me stated can be quite hindering for the Musicians. In fact the Royal Marines Band Service did away with them because Musicians didn't enjoy wearing them and they were hindering for the Musicians. The Guards Bands have worn Capes in the past, but it's not a regular occurrence. As they usually only wear them on the way to a Parade (for example Trooping the Colour), and then before starting they would take them off. Which if you think about it? It would add more time, and be a rather big logistical problem. As they would need Guardsmen to pick up the 225 Capes and place them into a vehicle. Hope this helps!
@@delvinrodriguez3341 we managed with capes in the RAF when I was in!! Although I remember one case where the boss said no capes and half the band had to have new uniforms as they shrunk!!!
@@davidwillmore1982 First, Thank you for you service Sir! That's very interesting to know, I've only seen the RAF Bands wear Capes twice. Wonder if what happened to the RMBS happened in the RAF as well?

Does anyone know why there are multiple trombonists dotted throughout the massed bands? Thanks
They will likely be the base tromboneists
Yes, why indeed ? ..... maybe because once they split up on the parade ground, all the trombones will be together ?
