- It's been a rough 1.5 years for (web) developers. Layoffs, AI and the general economy are all not helping.

I am a frontend developer with 6 years of experience. I have not been able to find a job for 3 months. Seniors are hired for food
I believe things get better when interest rates are a bit lower. Lower rates allow companies to borrow money more easily in order to invest and grow. Interest rates are still very high atm. I’ve also not seen many purely front end roles being posted. It seems like the vast majority are looking for full stack or backend. I also believe that’s because companies are looking to maintain code bases with fewer employees due to their restricted access to money.
Its sad. Hope you get one
Just do freelance work
@@codelivewithmefreelance is so competitive. It's not that easy
Become a fullstack developer.
As a developer who working at some government orgnization, I can confirm that the web developers still needed because in government we do everything manually for security reason and also we cant use AI for security and privacy reasons, its impossible to rely on AI in government
That might change .. it's very possible to run your own AI such that it doesn't publish anything outside of your own department.
@@H4KnSL4K It is possible but probably not cost efficient. Each agency would need to allocate their budget on infrastructure for these ai systems to support a given set of developers. Plus government works takes way too long and there's too much work that needs to get done. So if they allow this to happen, maybe possibly we'll see more code getting added? Not sure - but we need more solid developers in the government sector cause it's definitely lacking from my experience
@@H4KnSL4K Although I will say the company I work for has a strategic plan on helping government agencies adopt AI for things that it can help with (accessibility and such - example: blind people would rather describe what they want and have the application perform the task instead of using a screen reader)
max please make a video about how to purchase your all courses in serial order if a beginner is learning to code.
Love web dev and thanks to you it was also fun to learn

It's best to have some domain knowledge in a certain field and also know tech than knowing tech only knowadays. Like combining finance and tech could make you more marketable.
In the long run? No one knows. Right now? Terrible idea. Market is saturated with senior devs who have been laid off + lots of company freezing new hires.
Great episode dear Maximilian thank you and keep it up dear.
As a webdev ... hope so. I'm php stack.. what im seeing is loads of cheapo in the industry.. people offering or trying to offer $5 webdev. So.. many cheap sites.. customers dont understand whats involved and they're creating the myth that there's not much to it.
Ah, but on AI.. if every dev was to be more efficient that would just mean cheaper sites that are good and real sites.. and then it would bring them into the price range of more customers. I just think it would increase demand. Cheaper work = More work... = same devs. There are some truelly awful websites out there on the internet.. I mean.... awful. The reason they arent updated is because of expense.
Welding, construction, trade, sales - go there people. The market is crazy difficult now. We lost the jobs created between 2020-22. Which resulted with a lot of experienced developers jobless. 2020-2023 were the years with the highest levels of tech students. Those already sent ton of people to the market this year. What's crazy - upcoming few years will still produce an extra numbersto heavily saturated market.
Love this piece. Thinking of an analogy, it sounds similar to the stock market.
It's a great time to invest in the stock market when everyone else is leaving the stock market and things are trending down.
The return on investment won't be immediate, but when times change (as they always do) you will be one of the best positioned individuals to ride the wave upwards.
I’ve been pretty successful freelancing but the amount work it took left me drained that I decided to take a job. Way less money but also way less stressful.
Sir, teach me how to become a money-making freelancer please
Are you freelancing on upwork?
if not a web developer what else to do? current language, python & typescript
Hey kids that reading this .. take a skill that requires ur hand and body move to solve .. trade skill is still a good .. agi will crush white collar
Will you ever release an update for your Nuxt course to Version 3 ?
Thank you.
Thanks Max... got laid off in September... still trying to figure out what's next... maybe pivot away from Web Dev to Computer Graphics, or Indie Game Dev... I'll see next year... just taking a break for now...

Hey max , amazing course on react and next I have learned a lot.
So there is a High level of uncertainty and everyone is just making speculations about what they think the reason is
I guess that’s the best we humans can do. At least I can’t look into the future, no 😉
Do you think there will be less demand for 'web developers' and more for development across all platforms? (Like web, mobile, software, robotics/iot ar/vr) ? Thanks for your vids and courses Max
Absolutely. The problem with web developers is that there are too many of them, because it is a very simple field that anyone can learn in a matter of months.
The market is extremely saturated with web developers, and it is currently impossible for a new web developer to break through on any freelance platform. This also applies if a new developer decides to get a job with a company.
There, he can expect exorbitant demands from an employer who simply has no shortage of new employees today, because there are so many of them that this field has lost any prestige.
If you want to break through today, you have to master more advanced developer skills that go beyond web development and are not so easy that the whole of India and Pakistan can learn them in a month. 🙂
So focus on blockchain, machines, desktop software, mobile applications, also consider machine learning, automation and computing. Today you need a specific focus, just focusing on web development is definitely not enough.

Elsewhere i saw that right now market is looking for "100x devs", "unicorn devs" that are skilled across various stacks. Frontend web development in of itself isn't that complicated* so one can differentiate themselves in an oversaturated market.
* : well, skill difference exists, but frontend web development isn't THAT revarding for skill level above 500 hours.
@@arkeynserhayn8370 "* : well, skill difference exists, but frontend web development isn't THAT revarding for skill level above 500 hours."
But it's still a requirement from company. There is not much to do with that as a potencial employee. 🙂
I am also of the opinion, that there is not much room to move in the frontend, from the moment you find out that all frameworks, styling and structure, work on the same principle.
This also applies to the backend, where I switched from Node to Laravel, Gin, Django and only noticed changes in syntax. At its core, it's still the same. (of course I'm still talking about web development)
waiting for angular freesh course. not in old one
Indie hacking is what people should be mastering if they don't get a job, IMO, you can monetize with ads and have some income. I'm working in my 4th project and hope I can get some decent income, all 3 previous projects are online but kinda dead, people don't want to pay for stuff so I think b2b is better right now and that's what my 4th project is about.
9-10 years back, I leaned a lot of things from you sir and really thanks for that. Me and my father started up a product company which we are still in struggling phase but parallely I was in job as well. Recently due to some corporate politics left my job where was earning a very good money. And now specially in India it's really getting difficult to take a new job as experience lead frontend developer as every company has budget issues or they don't want to hire experienced developers. Struggle phase !!
Hey brother be hopeful you will find it.
Yaah its good idea utill you are selling courses
Hi Max I've already purchased your angular and many courses, could you upgrade your angular material course or create a new one, Since Angular Material Version 19 come up with custom theming and overrides, there is no tutorial currently walkthough it how the enterprise application organize the code..
🎉
Hi max, will there be a course on svelte kit with svelte 5?
I think we are at the end of web development era. Most of the jobs like front end sites with no api integration can be done now with AI
that is not even close to true. try building a half way complex react app using ai. it’s quicker doing it yourself
No, it can't.
Bolt is the best fullstack web developer anyone could ever have♥
I have no idea what are the issues people are talking about. I started contracting and trippled my income in the last year doing frontend development.
That’s awesome to hear! Congrats!
How do you go about finding clients?
enjoy not having benefits through your employer and hunting for a new job when your contract ends
@bvedantcodes I will take tripple income and no benefits any day. And even if you are employed they can fire you tomorrow :)) As a contractor at least you are aware of this.

You finished at third, but did it with style 👍

@@NeroshkietNailed. The guy in the video said that we won't go back to pandemic numbers in near future. And said that it won't last forever and we have no certainty how it will look in the future. He didn't mentioned that: While a ton of new people still coming to the field (2020-24 were the tears of highest numbers of new students which just started coming onto market) Stay away from Tech
What will people do in the future, will we all be influencers or open onlyFans profiles, almost in every field in life is AI...
There’s a lot AI built influencers also, and soon with the advancements of AI for video, onlyFans will also be AI

Web development is DEAD unfortunately.
Not dead
@@abuhojile850 Dying
Is not dead. But the job market is in agony. The market is oversaturated with little to none jobs available, high competition, and experienced developers being jobless. What's even crazier: we had a huge influx of tech students between 2020-24. This results with ton of graduates coming to already heavily saturated and limited market. And this influx is still coming making it's even worse each year. I think this will be the case for next couple of years. If people still have a choice and weren't born with programming talent/aren't crazy passionate - make better choices
