  • Second part of a wonderful film called The Miraculous Circumstance. In this second part folk song collecting is heard from the past to the present day, including how he used some of the ideas from collecting folk music in his 6th String Quartet. It is a fascinating look at what Bartok was trying to preserve and what the villages he collected in are like now. Also some more recent footage of local villagers singing and playing (on Hurdy Gurdy for example) folk songs.

This documentary is really precious and you made a great cultural service by preserving and uploading it. By the way, can anybody tell me the name of the song played by the trio at the beginning?

Ok thanks! Looking around I found it's called Ürögi kanásztánc, is it also the original popular name, you believe? I would like to find that exact vocal part sung and played by sebo ferenc, which is not included in Bartok's rendition.

Luca Bocchia try a Google Hungary search for bartok archive, its a digital database with original written transcriptions, as well as processed notation and recordings, including collections from Kodaly. I had it saved on a laptop I no longer have, just kind of search for it, comes up easily. Also, maybe you've heard of a recording that got deleted of a song about a mother drowning in a river, it had a pic of bartok's phonograph on it, I'm haunted by its memory, lol

Thank you very much for that hint! That site is gold! Unfortunately I can't help you with your search, it's not long that I'm into Hungarian folk/Bartok... anyways, keep in touch
