Matsukaze

During the period of high economic growth, one of the limited express DMUs that expanded nationwide was the limited express "Matsukaze," which connected the Kansai region with the central-western part of the San-in region via the San-in Main Line.
Boosted by the opening of the Tokaido Shinkansen, it steadily captured passenger demand.
Amidst the growing tourism boom, the San-in region continued to rely on JNR as the primary means of transportation, aided by the delay in road network development.
The train evolved into a luxurious formation with two green cars and a dining car, eventually extending to a long formation of 13 cars.
However, an unexpected competitor appeared in the form of the Shinkansen extension to Okayama and the Hakubi Line.
