@@davidsbrompton-1947 Oh, thank you! And if it weren’t for the Homeric distance between us, I would be tempted to invite you to ride our Bromptons together. I think that would be quite enjoyable, sir.
Ahh, Brooks, I have had a few over the years then drawn away by fancy gel padding and other wonders always to return (and finally now, I have come to my senses and to my love of Thoreau, simplify simplify simplify) to that seemingly lump of hard leather which nonetheless gives to my every need to provide supreme comfort and lasting bottom joy! Don´t forget to apply some proofhide dressing once in a while and especially don´t forget the underside of the saddle where all the rain and road debris collects, your bum and your saddle will thank you! thank you for yet another lovely video!
Another Brompton lover 😎 Your videos have landed in my feed today - nice to see what you’re up to! I’m a Brooks saddle fan too - bought because I liked the look of them to be honest but it seems to have worked out for me so far 🤞
I have to agree Miriam, the high end leather saddles Brooks do with copper rivets look really smart, but I couldn't afford one and the care is a bit more demanding. Nice of you to leave a comment 😃
Hi David, great video, I think you did the right thing to post it! I also had a Fizik saddle for my P-line, which went to storage almost immediately in favour of Brooks B17 Classic leather saddle. It took me smth like 2 weeks for the saddle to "break in" and now it is super comfortable, so I am quite happy with it. I didn't try Cambium seat before tbh, I've heared it is softer than leather and feels like it is already "broken in" while you need to spend some time with leather saddle for it to become comfortable. Plus Cambium, being vulcanized rubber, has an advantage of being waterproof unlike leather and a bit lighter. On the other hand - leather tends to be more durable if maintained right and it manages heat better, which is helpful in long rides, so both got pros and cons.
The Brooks saddle will serve you well. Over the years I've had a few different Brooks', a couple of B17s, a B15 Swallow and a Team Pro (I raced for about 30 years, only club level, though). Once you've "broken in" your saddle (assuming you bought a leather Brooks) you'll be randonneuring in no time.
Words from a loyal Brooks customer indeed. My Brooks is in some modern indiscernible material and looks as if it would withstand nuclear attack. It will be around long after I wont. Thanks for an interesting comment Frombie
On my Brooks B17 Flyer Select (springs and thicker leather)? Since 2013, yes thanks. On my H6R the original Brompton saddle, ouch. Charge Spoon, more ouch. Then the Brooks for 6 years, when I noticed the leather looked like it was cracking (despite regular Proofide applications) I tried an Ergon ST Gel Men, comfort soon turned to saddle sore. So back to my Brooks I went and tightened up the adjuster under the saddle nose and saddle happiness again. Though I might go for a Brooks Carved Flyer as it has a cut-out for less perineal pressure (currently waiting for the price to drop). Or a Cambium C19 Carved, maybe.
No worries 😊 I love your videos and you take beautiful photos 😊 going on two and a half years with my Brompton and loved every minute of it. I live in Tampa Florida and not too many brompton's in these parts LOL you have a good day sir 😊 can't wait for your next video. Cheers! 🍻
Nothing wrong with this video. I love to see the world from the saddle. Regardless of the type of bike: Brompton, holiday touring bike, Dutch city bike, recumbent 2 or 3 wheels or velomobile.
David, I still have my Brook's B17 saddle from many years ago. It is fairly narrow and at my age now I could be doing with a broader one like you have.
I only fitted the new saddle today Johnny, yet I instinctively know it will carry me forward in comfort and will be passed on to someone appreciative when I'm gone ! Splurge the cash Johnny, I did.
Nice and relaxing video, David. When I look at the seat that you are sitting in, it sets a high benchmark, so the Brooks saddle must be really good. I use one on my trekking bike, and I am happy that the standard Brompton saddle suits me well. I reckon I have a generic bum. As for my first video, David, at least you got me pondering on the idea of making one 😉. I wish you beautiful rides - and beautiful videos just as this one!

Hello David, Sorry I am late to the party... I have been off getting my new hip. Pleased to you've found a saddle more to your liking... I hope your trip went well. Take care. Paul,,
Lovely countryside! I have a Brooks leather B17 on my big bike and I love it. Oddly enough though, I rather like the stock Brompton seat on my Brompton (not that horrid Fizik, but the regular, slightly padded one with the Brompton brand on it). The only mods I made to my 6-speed C-Line were a telescoping seat post because I'm 193cm tall, and a 44-tooth chain ring. That smaller chain ring is very handy on those hills! Oh, and I put black clamps on it because it's a black lacquer model. And replaced the rear reflector with a light. Aaaand a cateye light that screws into the stock Brompton seat... I guess I did make a few mods on it hahaha. Cheers des États-Unis, merci pour le vid!

Hi David, I’m glad to hear this Brooks saddle suits you better. I hope to get a Brooks myself in a bit. I’ll get one in black to match my Brompton. The saddle that came stock on my bike is OK for a short ride, but not much more. 😅
The standard presently fitted to a Brompton appears to be the ‘fizik’ I have yet to find anyone who actually likes it Cyndy. Many subscribers recommend Brooks, they have a large range to fit all needs.
David, my knees felt those last few metres of the incline, well done. As a 'Brooks' I'm glad you're enjoying the new saddle. It's been some years since I was anywhere near your neck of the woods, riding our tandem from the farmhouse to the boulangerie in Ogeu-les-Bains. 'Twas more fun than riding up to the Col d'Aubisque for hot chocolate on the hotel deck, but perhaps not as satisfying. How do you find the small wheels and rigid forks on the loose surface tracks? Thanks for another thought provoking video.
Thank you Trevor for this interesting comment. The last meter was difficult and of course had I not made it but stalled, that section would have never made it to the video. As I haven't cycled since childhood, I don't really have much to compare the Brompton with, but the small wheels do transmit more of the bumps. As for the "Rigid Forks" I am told because they are Titanium they have more flex ! However, the type of Grandad cycling I do takes non of this into account.
Video was fine don’t worry just be you , if we don’t take care of our bottoms ourselves know one else will , cheers or bottoms up.
