Perfect. Just repaired my ASUS K53e using your video. The lead on the back of the power was broken and I had to replace the unit. Your video led me through the process and the all worked well after reassambly. Instead of a braided copper wire to draw the solder out of the connections, I used a solder sucker iron which worked quite well to remove the old solder. Thanks!
Thanks for the video, I just repaired mine. The only difference is that I did not change the plug. I saw that the connector at the back was cut by movement therefore I solded and I added a piece of cable to it to add more flexibility.
Soldered for the first time this past week. Just a simple splice into a broken wire harness on my van. New jack is on order for my Asus laptop this video helps me a ton thanks! Little nervous, but not paying $200 for someone else to do this. Laptop can't work any less right? :-)
I was trying to do this with a 15 watt iron... I know your struggle. However I bought a 45 watt iron and it did the job. Maybe try some flux or rubbing alcohol on the joint to clean it? 30 should do the job
a tip from who soldering is a daily job. Instead of trying to remove the tin, try adding it keeping it hot and fluid and from the other side remove the remaining particals. When removed, then use the desoldering wick to remove the exces tin.
The best way to repair this problem is to solder a flexible wire where the socket breaks. I put two new sockets in my laptop. One installed by professional. The second socket installed by me. I then tried building up the broken socket with solder. None of these fixes worked because the mother board flexes two much. Each repair failed within a couple months. After soldering a small flexible wire in place the problem is solved. It has been 2 years since this last repair with no problems. Hope this helps someone else.
Tory Mesmer Hi, im very new to home repair and i was wondering if you could elaborate on the "wire" you installed. What kind of wire did you use? thickness? length? Also I'm having trouble visualizing how you did the soldering. Wouldnt the solder make the wire incapable of moving? Thank you in advance if you decide to awnser :)
hah, man. Don't I know it. Since I have my laptop ( K53SJ) I changed about 5 dc jack. One accidental hit on the plug, overheat or simply bad solder and puf, the jack won't charge anymore. I was thinking the same way to fix this problem because it's always because the jack is not on the motherboard fixed but rather is only connected to it on 1 power pin and when anything hits it , all the stress of the hit goes to 1 power pin and almost always starts to fail . I tried to tell the people who fix my laptop to use a wire for the power pin to give it flexibility in the case it's having a shock from a hit but they wont do it because they are too afraid it will only destroy the laptop somehow. I'm glad to hear that my idea would work just fine , but I'm sad I can't find anyone to do it .... and I can't risk it because I have no experience with this.
I have the same laptop, and the power jack broke, now question, the link that you put in the description, is that the same power jack that was in this video? And will it definitely work if I were to buy and replace it? (Im very noobish when in comes to laptop and computer parts)
Hi, thanks for the video. Nicely elaborated, I have question regarding the DC port. My port looks OK no cracks or damage on it but still it doesn't charge when connected by charger !!! I have to push it hard and then only the charging led glows !!! What can be the possible cause and how should I tackle it ?? Thanks in advance...
One more question, I have already changed the jack once. Need to know what is the possibility or how many times I can replace jack ? Cause person in local store told me that next time u might need to change the motherboard !!! I guess he was wrong and giving false suggestions just make money !!
well depends who replaced it the first time around, sometime after the first time there is really nothing anybody can do the second time around, we get laptops here all the time from people who try to fix it themselves the first time around and even we can't undo the damage so that the new jack would work fine
I have a K53E style and I bought a 4pin style (DC30100FJ00C) DC Power Jack Cable Harness and was told that it is a simple plugin. I do not see a place to plug it in. The thin part of the motherboard between the fan and the charging port has snapped off, making a standard solder style impossible. Is this repairable? I am more than willing to send the mobo and the new jack to you if you can make this work. I have the part that snapped off. My ex attempted repair, not knowing what they they were doing in an attempt to hide the problem from me. This laptop is for my work.
If you had to wiggle jiggle the plug to make the system work for quite some time then it is probably a faulty jack, if you never had to wiggle jiggle the plug then probably not the jack.
Thanks on your response. I try to wiggle the plug but the computer wont turn on. I have checked the RAM,HHD,Battery, system fan, My charger is good putting out the right voltage. I was hoping the Plug to be bad... I dont know what to do any more.... any tips that can help me please? Thanks so much
dj ceej ok on G72 try to measure the resistance on the central pin, if it shows you nothing that means the pin does not conduct anything, if it shows you some ohms that means the jack should be ok
im doing this now, well tried to lol i reccomend a soldering iron with a smallish tip small enough to fit between your fan and jack without burning the fan up, also i bought a solder sucker pen and I DO NOT reccomend it, use the SOLDER WICK also cold braided copper wire or solder mop since most sucker pens just dont cut the tight space.
I am currently repairing the some model, and my 45 watt Craftsman soldering iron can't melt the solder off and let the wick absorb it before it hardens. Would 45 watts not be enough? I can't figure this out! Thanks for the feedback.
William Bentley I bought the wick from radioshack, but I may have to get something else. I have seen videos where people are desoldering and the wick lightly smokes when you remove the solder from the motherboard, is that a good thing? Which brand / size wick do you recommend? Thanks again!
I have a somewhat relevant question: This laptop I'm working with currently is fine when it comes to the power jack, but the motherboard temperature typically climbs to around 75 degrees Celsius! Now could this be a design flaw and relate to the bad power jacks, or do the wires just snap or something? Also, is it normal for these laptops to run this hot? I'd like to use this video to disassemble the laptop and do a dust clean but my inexperienced hands aren't ready for it unless the excessive heat is an unusual problem.
clean the dust between heatsink and the fan. Do not block the air intake when using the laptop. Put some extra thick legs so that the air intake (on the bottom) would have air coming in.
diego freschi How exactly did you replace that, did you scrape it all off or just add more? It may sound like a dumb question but if I do have to replicate the process, I want specifications haha. And thank you Power Jack Repair for the advice.
Hey there i have a Asus A52F laptop... it wont turn on at all. no charge light nothing... the charger is alright and the charger put is ok cause i tested it and it has a low resistance ready and continuity, what do you think is the problem?
Power Jack Repair I have plenty of multiple varieties of solder available to me at work. I wanted to make sure I wasn't going to damage the board with the increased heat nor have solder-ability issues because of unlike materials. We typically use the lead free chemistry above or eutectic for applications that specify leaded solder.
OK. My power jack actually snapped off the motherboard. Question for you, are all four of the side pins just ground? What is left on the motherboard is where the positive pin was soldered, and 2 specs of board tracing on each side of the back side pins. The front side pins are still connected to the front side pins are still connected to the snapped board. If I take a barrell plug and just hook positive to the where positive of the jack hooked up, and hook negative to any ground spot on the motherboard - will that work? The laptop works fine, just once this battery dies, it won't get recharged till I can get power to the board
I can confirm that - I found my meter finally, and and yes all 4 seat pins connect to each other, and only the back pin connects to the positive. Going to get a female barrel connector and first hook it to allligator clips to see if I clip onto what is left on the motherboard where the positive pin hooked to, and clip to a ground area, if it charges, if it does, I'll solder it on. On mine, since it's out of warranty, and I have no intention of selling it, I just hack(sawed) the plastic off between the ethernet and the heatsink, so i have access to the board from the outside - without undoing everything.....When I shut it down I felt like it was going to surgery under anesthesia - Felt like saying to it, next time you wake up, you should be all better! :)
yea! jumpered a female plug to the motherboard using alligator clip jumpers and it charges fine! Now I just need to solder wires instead of the jumpers. Looks like there wasn't anything important on that section of the motherboard that snapped off.
hi i know this is a long shot, i removed the casing and found that the very thin part at the end of the motherboard had broken off so only one side is connected, is there a way to repair this or do i need a new motherboard for it, thank you
So i bought this dc jack output for my asus laptop coz the ac adapter wont charge the laptop the green light on it shits off everytime i plug it in the dc port.. Could the dc port be the problem?
dc ports on these are just fine, you probably did a crappy soldering job, if the green light lights out that means there is a short, short is usually either the board got soldered through or solder is shorting + and -
the dc jack on my samsung np 300 e7a-04 wont even solder. it's like they nailed it on the motherboard. I used a 30w soldering device but it didn't even budge. Does some1 know what I'm doing wrong?
Yeah it is... So im wondering if its a mother board problem?? The charge light is now indicating that the battery is being charged but on Pressing the power button nothing happens.
Replaced Power jack now won't start up with dc adapter. Will start up with battery from previous charge. However, when I do plug in adapter it won't charge. Any ideas?
if the screen was working fine prior to the repair then the problem is the cable for sure, sometime people take out the connector incorrectly without removing the tape on top of the lcd connector
That's a screen cable issue. You can pick up an asus k53e screen ribbon cable on eBay for cheap, it's an easy repair. I had this issue a few years back, one of the thin cables inside had snapped when i had previously disconnected the screen to repair the DC jack
What chance is it that noting but the soldering is broken or just lost contact? Is it any point to just try to re-solder the old plug back on, if I dont have a new one?
We have made a newer better video of this repair: ruclips.net/video/Uif0hbFRguY/видео.html In your case I would first add more solder to the back pin in the rear of the jack, if you don't see a crack that means the pin is fine. But chances that nothing is broken are about 15%
Hey! Thanks for quick reply :) In fact I just spent the last 45 min getting the mother board free. Will ceck out the other vid and prob order new pin. Thanks and will give both videos a like

there should be a crack in the rear center pin if you have to push it
Thanks for the info...

I am currently repairing the some model, and my 45 watt Craftsman soldering iron can't melt the solder off and let the wick absorb it before it hardens. Would 45 watts not be enough? I can't figure this out! Thanks for the feedback.
45watt is more than enough, just put some pressure on it. Maybe the wick is of bad quality
William Bentley
I bought the wick from radioshack, but I may have to get something else. I have seen videos where people are desoldering and the wick lightly smokes when you remove the solder from the motherboard, is that a good thing? Which brand / size wick do you recommend? Thanks again!
How powerful is your iron.. I couldn't do it with a 30 watt iron.
any tips on how not to get the other parts on my computer burned by the solderer?

clean the dust between heatsink and the fan. Do not block the air intake when using the laptop. Put some extra thick legs so that the air intake (on the bottom) would have air coming in.
Last mounth I replaced the conducting paste (it was really dry) of the heatsink in an Asus X53S, now temperatures are low.

Chris Shula Remove the old paste (clean heatsink and chips) and apply the new paste (I used the white standard type). And remember to clean the dust.
diego freschi
Thank you.
how mush is it to re-solder the pin behind power jack socket so it charges properly? i got the k53e series
Thank you very much for this video!
It saved me 100$
Thanks a bunch for the guide!
That speaker cable is not easy to remove! I had to take a break and come back to it! But, I finally got it out in one piece!
what is wattage for soldering iron?
can you give step by step directions because i can't get the microphone cord detached from my motherboard
what are the parts you need to remove the solder?
Thank you. This video was very helpful!
Hey there i have a Asus A52F laptop... it wont turn on at all. no charge light nothing... the charger is alright and the charger put is ok cause i tested it and it has a low resistance ready and continuity, what do you think is the problem?
Make sure there is a resistance on the center pin, of the jack itself. The chargers hardly ever go bad on these laptops.
Where to buy the replacement jack? pls help
howe i guite same conictor .i have same problam
What solder is used? I assume it would be lead free? Possibly 96% Sn, 3.5% Ag, 0.5% Cu ?? I'm not familiar with commercial electronics.
Lead free holds better but melts longer, rosin core is someone not legal in commercial production in U.S. anymore but for sale at any radio shack

Video is awesome but you should add audio
How do you get the ribbons out
That's awesome!
whats the copper wire for?
what is that copper pice for
thank's this is my LapTop

30w
how to take jack off, i dont have soldering wick.
the dc jack on my samsung np 300 e7a-04 wont even solder. it's like they nailed it on the motherboard. I used a 30w soldering device but it didn't even budge. Does some1 know what I'm doing wrong?
There is resistance on the center pin. It just wouldn't turn on. 0.02 ohms and climbing slowing.. I'm an electrician I know about the resistance
If there is resistance on the pin itself (inside of the jack) then the jack should be ok.
Any ideas?
the tip of the adapter goes bad in 50% of all cases, so either get another power supply or another tip installed on the power supply.
Power Jack Repair Checked voltage from plug and getting the necessary voltage.
Power Jack Repair Right from the power jack
Not saying your company. The quote I received to have it done at a local shop was $235.
hi.
i did all like you did on the video but the image on the screen is white, is there any way so solve this?
white image either the LCD cable is bent someplace, or the screen is bad.
the screen was working properly... i think the problem is the cable but i dunno how to be sure about it
if the screen was working fine prior to the repair then the problem is the cable for sure, sometime people take out the connector incorrectly without removing the tape on top of the lcd connector
is there any way to make the cable work or do you think the thin lines maybe broke?
That's a screen cable issue. You can pick up an asus k53e screen ribbon cable on eBay for cheap, it's an easy repair. I had this issue a few years back, one of the thin cables inside had snapped when i had previously disconnected the screen to repair the DC jack
The best for this is Hakko fr 300
You are way to rough on that board. Good way to pull away a trace.,
mine was fixed already and guess what it happened again port problems again
I changed the port but the laptop isn't charging any tips?
Make sure the power supply outputs voltage.
Power Jack Repair how do I do that?
التيجاني محمد Plug it in and use a voltmeter.
gaylen Russell I don't think my parents would allow that thanks anyways
+魔剣ティジャ二 A voltmeter is just a way to see if there is current. It tests to make sure all your connections are good.
it is not $200, we usually we charge $100 total for everything.
all of them have the same info and same payment methods. use either one.
