Disney is trying to be inclusive. All my life everything was made by and for my race. The grumpy white people on social media want it to go back to that. It is difficult to adjust but young people will grow up hopefully not thinking about ' the other'. I really enjoy seeing different cultures in screen. Disney has had a very spotty track record of “creativity” since the 90’s under Eisner. Bob Iger isn’t a creative. He only acquires (buys) the creativity of others.
As a 90’s kid, I remember the Disney renaissance fondly. They exploded with blockbuster movies, TV, park expansions, and innovative products.
    Since the early 2000’s Disney’s
creativity, was almost exclusively powered by external forces such as Pixar, Star Wars and Marvel. Other than some of their children’s television (Clubhouse Disney), Disney itself has been pretty stagnant for the last 20 years.
Under Iger, the Disney company has morphed from a producer of creativity to a collector and exploiter of creativity.

As an anniversary gift my wife bought me ONE Disney stock just so I could say I'm a shareholder. I'm aware this is only for the very minimal and unimportant clout I can get around my friends, but it is interesting to see things like this happen (I even get the chance to vote) and it worries me because internally you can see the people who have been shareholders the longest aren't interested in the brand or the product. The Disney mini-drama does expose the problems of capitalism overall - never mind the quality of our product, or loyalty to our workers or customers, let's just slash the budgets to maximise shareholder revenue! - but even though I see this as a victory I'm still frustrated by Disney overall. Iger's strategy has been amazingly profitable in the short term but he has never had a clear vision for what to do when the same three movies Disney keep making (Marvel / Star Wars / Remakes) become creatively and financially bankrupt. The movie industry can only grow by finding new creative ideas - it's still an artform - and Disney's outsized success and influence has left Hollywood feeling stagnant.

Add on shooting on location during covid, the deaging used for the opening of the film, and the expenses for cross promotion like say, licensing out the rest of the Indiana Jones franchise from Paramount for Disney+, and you can start to see why a film that probably should've cost $120-150 million(max) became $300 million(which was somehow still not the most baffling expensive movie of 2023 to me. Not mention that the rival company, DC/Warner, had also male lead movies and guess what, also a flop and I´m talking about stuff as Black Adam. Sure, Iger made some mistakes, very heavy ones, but at least he adressed them and promised changes and fresh ideas. However, Speltz expressed, or at least he chose unwisely his words, that the reason is due black and female cast. Looks like Speltz doesn´t have any idea of how many movies of the MCU have female characters as main characters (Black Widow, Captain Marvel and that´s it) and afroamerican characters (Black Panther, BL2 and that´s it, without mention the upcoming fourth Captain America movie). However, to make things worse, when George Lucas, now shareholder of Disney, wasn´t precisely fond of Spelt´z statements, then you know that Nelson really fucked up everything.

You know, absolutely ridiculous to look at. Haunted Mansion flopped because it was just a bad an cringey movie and way too expensive and who releases it in the middle of summer instead of near Halloween season. And why didn't they just bring back Eddie Muprhy for Haunted Mansion 2? The Creator flopped IMO because it had little marketing and audience are too stupid to try and watch a new title that isn't a remake, sequel or part of a franchise. Just my two cents on those 3 movies.

I don’t see a single pro Disney anything behind Dan. Disney has been working hard for the modern audience, except nobody knows who the modern audience is. The MCU, for example, had a fanbase long before the movies started. It pandered it to that fanbase, and that fanbase caused it to become the most successful franchise in the history of cinema. Then Disney the best move was to attack their existing fanbase to promote a fan that doesn’t exist and now they’ve lost billions. Gender swapping, nerfing, and shitting on existing OG characters to promote more competent female ones instead of just introducing existing female characters and having em fight along side each other as equals without shitting on one another is why they aren’t making any money anymore. They did the same with Star Wars! Look at what they did with Luke! Every piece of media they’ve put out which attempts this bs has failed. The only reason why X-Men 97 is successful. (I watch it) because it isn’t shitting on its characters and it’s actually sticking to the original original script from X-Men back in the 90s. It’s not inclusion and diversity that’s killing Disney.. it’s the fact they’re forcing it.

It wasn't Peltz's comments that moved votes, it was the 35% rise in stock, plans for ESPN, and investment in Epic Games. The challenge with Disney is having a succession plan in place before the end of the year, maybe two-three months from now, a clear streaming strategy, and the $30B park investment should be for upgrading parks (which hasn't been done in years), investing in Imagineering, and making each park unique. Bringing Tron Lightcycle Power Run from Shaghai to Magic Kingdom, good, but makes Shanghai less special. Stop plopping down the newest rides and build new classic attractions (high tech rides break down too much) and areas with new themes. They face Universal's #EpicUniverse, which I think is the next gen theme park, with only an upgraded Splash Mountain.

It was down a few dollars today. But you can't look at a stock daily and make determinations. It takes time and, more importantly, is determined by how successful Disney's strategy is. Which also takes time. Disney stock is up significantly from this time last year

I find fault with Iger’s personal post =CEO ambitions that made his succession plan with Chapek such a failure. Chapek himself wasn’t’ the problem. Every studio has faced issues shifting to a subscription plan for their content.
Disney needs to re-invigorate their innovation in story telling. I don’t agree with the anti Iger / pro Peltz movement based on today’s anti woke politics. That’s just noise. Disney has been infusing its content with Walt’s message of accpetance, diversity and inclusion for decades. Except to more subtle degrees. Todays’ politics have given people more reason to be cognizant of it in films and has made a certain fan segment extremely negative for no reason other than to bitch and whine all day long. (Get over it and enjoy phase 1-4 or just boycott Disney). (Even with seven dwarves) I do agree that diluted and uninspired creative is why Disney has failed to capture audiences with their content for quite a while. Pixar and Disney animation lost inspiration and Iger’s personal producing instinct tons are really outdated. His decision to reboot Star Wars instead of genuine continuity and sincerity ended up devaluing Star Wars as an IP. He lucked out with Feige and Marvel - but their hallmark of success was due to innovative creative from Watts, Gunn, Coogler and the Russo brothers. Kennedy let Lord and Miller leave to Sony and they took the animation academy awards away from Disney.
Disney’s overall creative haas turned into boring vanilla. Ike perlumtter and Peltz don’t offer anything except for toxic people to chant more against Iger. Iger probably understands he cannot screw up appointing the right person to properly succeed him. He needs to let go of his own ego.

Bob Iger and band made some mistakes, but at least they´re addressing that mistakes and promised quality over quantity. In fact, in the case of Marvel, this year only one movie (Deadpool 3) and that´s it, so looks Iger are learning an applying, but Peltz doesn´t have any idea what´s the problem with Marvel. No matter if you replace afroamerican cast with a full caucasic cast, the movie will still suck if Disney keeps shooting movies like there´s no tomorrow, but Peltz got everything wrong.

Captain Marvel was getting actively hyped up by Marvel as preparation for her role in Endgame (which turned out to be miniscule), whereas they kept mum about Ant-Man and the Wasp's actual heavy relevance to Endgame's plot as a spoiler. This obviously doesn't explain all of the difference in box office, but it certainly played a big role in it.

anytime an argument throws in "people go to watch a movie to be entertained", they misconstrue the whole point of movies and just boil it down to whatever an audience member wants when it is really what the filmmaking team wants. Yes, they exist for entertainment but that is not the full purpose. And then "no messages" = no substance
