Jason, Did the same thing in the boy scouts. Used a #10 can and a "church key, beer can opener, soda can opener" and punched triangle holes all the way around the side at the bottom leaving space between the holes so the bottom of the can wouldn't fall off and a few around the top side. Took a nail and hammer and punched 4 holes 90° from each other 1/3 the way up the side of the can. Took some short pieces of coat hanger put them into the holes we punched to form a cross then got some hardware cloth laid it on the coat hanger cross to build the fire on. We used charcoal. Cut another piece of hardware cloth to make a cooking surface. Soak a couple pieces of charcoal in charcoal lighter fluid or Mineral Spirits lay them on the hardware cloth along with a few dry pieces of charcoal. lift the pan and hardware cloth off and add more charcoal if needed, then place the hardware cloth and pan back on the stove and resume cooking. Now you ruined a nice frying pan. That black soot isn't going to come off to easily. But, if you take some bar soap and rub it on the outside of the pan before you use it, the soot will be a whole lot easier to wash off afterwards.
My dad would make hand warmers for fishing on cold mornings. Put a roll of toilet paper in a metal coffee can, soak it with alcohol and light it. Burns for awhile.
We learned this in grade school back in the early 80's. However, we vented the bottom of the can, built the fire, and set the open end of the can onto the fire. Thus, using the bottom of the can as a griddle to cook burgers on. Of course, our #10 cans back then were coffee cans, not survival food cans.
Sure you do! If you have good health, a pair of good eyes, a pair of good hands encased in gloves & a systematic mind plus a LOT of resourcefulness, then you DO have more than enough tools to be a hobo! I mean, those hobos in the 1920s & 1930s had a whole lot LESS than you do today & they did A-OK & if they managed to do so, then why can't you? Just add in desperation & the will to live & I'm SURE you'll find a way! Or are you saying that you're a whole lot LESS than them?
You can do it with a pocket knife but it takes longer and you want gloves to protect soft pampered hands after fall from white collar grace You could also build rocket stove from rocks if you can't find bricks but it's bigger and harder to conceal if you're bugging out.
@@fredhercmaricaubang1883 What about tooth decay, regular checkups and cleaning? You haven't planned ten or twenty years in advance. I'm overstocking food grade hydrogen peroxide.
Definitely have extra hardware like can openers because A) they break and B) supply chain failure is progressing so unless you want to pay $75-$400 for a cheap 99¢ mechanical can opener, it's worth overstocking.
Jason , Your a credit to our race with your large family. I've got a few P 38 can openers one on my key chain.and couple cartons of Army MRE's I carry some in my car if I break down. I have given some away to homeless people whom I believe to be deserving.Along with a case of bottled water. Loved the video and might just make one for fun.
I refashioned a ( # 10 ) Tin Can [barbeque(r)] once. I used a large so-called " church key " ( " a Can & Bottle Opener " w/ a Triangle at one end & a flat bottle top remover at the other ), & used the triangle(d) end to make openings along the 'bottom side walls' and was fortunate enough to find some small Grids [ from another appliance ]. This worked quite well for barbequing hamburgers ! But if Failing to have such good ingredients or even any Cook Ware, " If All else Fails, " Canned foods in the U.S. & Europe are Sterilized and fully cooked / And considered by some Vegetarians as overcooked seing they like to eat their Produce raw .
Thank you so much today I Learn something very good because you don't know what hold in for the Feature because In this Country you don't have a Feature......👍♥️🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦
I'm sure every hobo has a rechargeable drill and tin snips. Don't use galvanized metal components. Heating it releases toxic gas which also gets in the food.
Well Jason, this was very informative, and I have some number 10 can , but they are full of food. Isn't there an easier way of making a home made stove ?
Do you think it’s a good idea to tell the world how much food and provisions you have stored? Perhaps someone in your neighbour hood might drop by to ‘borrow’ some? I’d keep quiet about my plans. I’d also show Hobo’s a little more respect.
Need to BUY a manual INDUSTRIAL can opener, they are under 100.. I WISH the Mormons were STILL selling to us HEATHENS at MEMBER PRICING.. GREAT for starting to prepare. Keep em coming!!! m
This was very painful to watch. If this is what they teach operatives in the CIA I hope they never have use this stuff to survive. They would do better to get out with the home less and learn where to find food.
Typical CIA operative... hell bent for some great exciting ER visits in the middle of the night. Looks like you're using the red handled tin snips upside down. And, should snip and slide forward upon each snip, avoiding jagged edges. Another tip, if the hobo has a drill, why not just use a large hole saw with the drill, and drill in reverse? Far safer fire accelerants, diesel or better yet, denatured alcohol. If you're the enemy, probably best using gun powder... food cooks extremely faster than your prey's more slower methods of cooking! And if using within either hot arid grassy areas or dry rural forests, be careful of starting forest fires. Obviously have lots of water or a fire extinguisher at hand... again, obviously CIA... really desires some fun disco light activity.

I have many No. 10 cans. I bought them from the LDS Store.
Harbor Freight drill bits? 🤣 Loved your birthday party story

After watching this I think I don`t have enough tools to be a hobo.
All ya really need is a knife and some try....

@@0ned And that fall's CLOSER than you think!
A lot of tools needed to build this oven. Now, I need to stock up on survival food in big cans

Most pocket knives come with can opener but they blister and callous your hands.
I hope you were a better CIA agent, then a handyman. Lol. Still love your content
If you turn it upside down it gives you a flat surface to set any size pan on and also can place food right on it after you burn the coating off.
I agree with you on the can opener, I have one too. But I use my swiss army knife, easier than the manual can opener.

alcohol stoves are easier and more covert, but I still dig your videos. Keep it up.
Suggestion: to make vent holes use a pointed can opener. Also try using can opener that cut the seam . This way you don’t cut your self.

Dude, same here, that damn thing is so aggravating, I am like give the hand can opener. I would use my multitool or a P38 and get faster results. LOL
For the top supports coathanger wire would probably work.

That was entertaining. 😊
Safety first. Wear glove so not to get cut from the cans sharp edges.
And goggles. You don't want metal shavings in your eyes
My dad until his death always had a P-38 can opener on his key ring. He was able to open a can about as fast as you opened that can, maybe faster.
It has been ssid that necessity is the mother of invention. However there are times when necessity is just a mother...
Thanks Hanson
I got a question 🤔 you said if the grid goes down you can't used your electric can opener how did you change your drill ?
Great stove, only problem, I don't think hobos have those tools. They might have a hammer and nails to make the oles , great video.
*#Awesome**👍*
use a p38 to open can.
I'm sure every hobo has a rechargeable drill and tin snips.

No one ever tells you that boiling water for water purification is labor intensive and hot water is no fun to drink on a hot day. Has to be done
Dont Bug Me is an excelent old book to keep around, especially if you own a scanner.

Needs a tin snip lesson
Yes he does
10-4

TIN SNIPS ..ON THE RUN 😢 BUT STILL YOU DID SHOW WHAT 2 DO 👍
So, with this hobo rocket stove, will I be able to cook rockets with them? Or will I be able to launch into space or destroy tanks with them?
P38 military can opener
👍
twigs not logs but good still :P

To funny off-grid stove requires power drill of course you can poke holes with a knife
Good luck with that 😅
What about lead poisoning?
🙏🤝🙏
If BELAL beat Leon, Khabib would have starched Leon

You just lost a subscriber!
Hahahaha 🤣🤣🤣🤣
