  • Pop one potato on 2" of soil in a small converted water bucket. Top the bucket off with soil. Stand outdoors, water when required. Four months later turn out the bucket to reveal the fruits of your labour.

No Hornworms today, at least not on our Tomato's. However, 3 of our 10 Potato
plants were stripped clean. Just grow stems left. Game over, done playing. Found
6 worms, the size of my index finger. Got rid of them and pulled all of the potatoes.
Just have 3 buckets of earlies left that have a month or so ago before we harvest them.
Have NEVER found hornworms on Potato plants before.
It's been a battle all year, but we have got some veg squirreled away. Far less weight on
Potatoes than we expected. 33 plants and harvested 65lbs +/-. On a good note, all
were from set asides from last year, so free. Shouldn't complain.

How often did you water the buckets while they were growing?
What a cute and smart dog. She moves the rope right in front of you to be sure you can see it in case you might not have peripheral vision and can't see it on the side.

Hello Emily. At least once a week more if its hot and dry especially if its also windy. Buckets and bags can dry out very quickly.
Meg used to drop her rope under the wheelbarrow. If I left it long enough she would realize that I couldn't see it and drop it in the wheelbarrow. If I dig a planting hole the rope will be dropped in it. If washing is being hung on the line the rope is dropped on the washing in the basket. Its relentless but I love it. Jim.

Sarpo Mira said to be exceedingly productive. Wish we had them in US. Might be worth a shot?

Hello Terry. I've grown these a number of times. On the up side they can produce some really big potatoes. On the down side the bigger the potato the odder it is in shape with lumps and bumps. I think that's probably the reason I've not seen it on the shelves in supermarkets. Too big and not easy on the eye. It doesn't look good. Jim.

Wrap individual potatoes in paper towels and put them in your refrigerator's crisper drawer. They will be good until next spring. I learned that from Jim.

Hello Simon. Just as Greg has outlined. Cool dark and dry. Inspect every month or so on the kitchen table. Discard any that look a bit iffy. That's how I've been doing it for years. Jim.
