It was kind of stupid of Nick to make the neighborhood story into a movie. The plot is really small and sort of generic. The Jungle Movie would have made more sense to be an actual movie because it has something everyone wanted to know. What happened to Arnold's parents and it finally confirms that Arnold and Helga are in love with each other and become a couple. It's easy to just have a confession but fans would rather see the two characters that they have been dying to get together to actually get together so Jungle Movie would have gotten a better audience.
To add to that, it seems like part of the reason why HA! The Movie flopped was because it had such poor publicity. Why would anybody go to the cinema to see a movie that had been developed for TV?
wassup2190 (Tech Talk - Tutorials) your right. The animation wasn't that good. It was standard tv show animation. Most the time movies for the theater will change the animation style by getting better lighting coloring, with great backgrounds. They would have better jokes and at least try to have a memorable soundtrack.
Exactly. Funnily enough, for proof of that you can just watch Rugrats In Paris or Recess: School's Out or something.

Personally, for what it was worth, I think I'm willing to give the movie a little benefit of the doubt. The story was easy to follow and had some substance but not enough substance for it to be a big hit in theaters. They were better off just leaving it as it was intended, just producing it for TV or direct-to-video. The animation wasn't too bad (I think they were able to advance it to some extent. It was either that or the technical quality of the film was so good I couldn't tell a difference), and the voice acting was still pretty good. Thinking about it though, the characters voiced by Jennifer Jason Leigh and Christopher Lloyd didn't seem to have much purpose for the movie. They weren't very well utilized and barely had any significance to the plot. Also, I wouldn't really place all the blame on Nick. According to an article by the Chicago Tribune from 2003, it was the execs at Paramount who got the idea to put it out into theaters after it did so well with test audiences. But you know audiences will go for almost anything and I'm sure the test audiences were mostly young kids. Paramount was initially against a theatrical release but the competition at the time was hot.
I actually liked Lila and was hoping that she would have had more character development to become and team up with Helga and Phoebe as friends and would help Helga admit her feelings to Arnold...ooh well...
Wow Craig is such a friendly and upbeat guy, no wonder Hey Arnold is such a good show. This was a great interview, thanks for doing it!

I understand why Helga is so mean. It's like how most people are when they're bullies. It's that they have a rough life and have their own insecurities and problems in life and pick on people to make them feel better about themselves by making other people feel the way they do. But there also were many times when Helga was comforting towards Arnold. I really think she has alot of love in her deep down.
+Lydia McSparron I don´t think that also Helga was just a normal bully, I mean, yes, she pushed kids aside but she wasn´t that type of abusive bullies,she just wanted to be on her own and with Phoebe. She also helped a lot of times her classmates and defended them too. She wasn´t like those girls in 6th grade who forced Phoebe to do their homework or who threatened Patty in the hallway.

Wow, Craig is such a nice guy. It really seems like he did love making "Hey Arnold", this is awesome! I kind of agree with what he says at the ending, you know, leaving it open. At least he told the fans that Helga and Arnold get together, so now I can imagine the rest of the story, though it would be nice to see it.... Actually, I have mixed feelings about it.

I know I'm replying super late but hopefully you'll see this in your notifications and look for it. Look for the tracks online, they're out there. Jim Lang even has a channel with a few really cool songs and other random vids. Barely any subs cuz he's not super active or anything but cool nonetheless. You can really tell that Craig is a down to earth awesome guy. I wish I could have done this interview! I want the Jungle Movie, but in reality (and kind of like Craig said) it'd be so tough to do now. It's been so many years since the show ended and if the movie was made, it might just ruin all of our great memories/ideas of the show.
That being said, I definitely wouldn't be upset if the movie was made, but that all comes down to Nickelodeon. And since it most likely wouldn't make millions of dollars, they'll never do it :(
Jack Carlos On the contrary, Nick has seen all the fans rave about it again and the fact there are alot of positivity in Hey Arnold's top trends on twitter, all the letters they have recieved. Nick was showing interest in picking it up again from what I've heard. ;)Considering Craig is back at Nick, he wants TJM made more than anyone. :D

Nickelodeon, please bring Hey Arnold back! I'd love to see how things would change after TJM! I would love to see episodes having to do with Miles and Stella. And most especially, episodes focused on the relationship between Arnold and Helga. I'd really love to see a run on gag of Arnold kissing Helga up and down her arm whenever she speaks Spanish at random times!

Well there is a petition going on. About 15,000 had signed the "save the jungle movie petition" but haven't gone close to reaching their goal.
Also I've read on the Hey Arnold The Jungle Movie wiki:
"In 2013, it was rumored that the movie would be released if enough interest in it was found among the fans. Cyma Zarghami, the president of Nick, has told Craig she has been receiving numerous letters and fan mail about Hey Arnold! Since then, Craig has announced that he is officially working on a new Nickolodeon show "Sky Rat" and wants to work on this new show beforehand. Craig still wants to produce TJM, granted his revived good terms with Nickolodeon go well.
In 2014, it was rumored that TJM was finally being worked on again, and would be released in theaters either on June 19th 2015 or somewhere in the year of 2016. However, such a rumor has not yet been confirmed by Craig Bartlett, Nickolodeon, or Paramount Pictures, which leads us to believe that the rumors is of false testimony".
Alicorn Ruler The admins of the Facebook group did a 15000 petition already that was printed out by us and sent to Nickelodeon over a year ago! So far we get our news from Craig himself. He's at Nickelodeon and working on a new show for them called Sky Rats! There hasn't been a pilot or anything yet, but if everyone goes to watch it and give it a chance and it starts out really good, then that could pave the way for Nick looking at starting up Hey Arnold again. :)

I'm all for the save The Jungle Movie cause, but he's kinda right. It's better to imagine what it could be like rather than it actually happen ONLY because, considering how much time has passed, it's probably not gonna be all that people want it to be.

Since the voices of every character on the show have been placed into the "DO NOT DELETE!" part of my brain, I would be fine with a Jungle Movie comic or novel; as long as I get closure on the series.
I am so happy Nick's actually doing this! The 2 voice actors I'm especially happy to see returning are Helga and Harold! In my mind those 2 are irreplaceable

But that would leave a lot of time between Helga's FTI confession and the jungle movie. It would be kind of random for Arnold to say that he loves Helga in San Lorenzo without FTI to make it happen. Helga's confession (plus the heat of the moment scene) is what spurns Arnold on to think about Helga in different ways until he finally comes to terms with his sub-conscience and finds out that he loves her back.

When i watched this interview back in 2013 when i was really obssessivly fangirling over hey arnold and saw the last episode the journal I had given up hope there would ever be a jungle movie. Im so glad I was wrong because here we are and it feels so rewarding seeing all the work the team has put in to bring this story to life.
There should be a documentary about it.
Honestly Helga's family situation is one of the saddest things I've ever seen in a kid's show... Just hearing Craig talking about the episode "Helga on the Couch" made me feel miserable.

Frieda Gold It's all up to Nickelodeon. The fans and Craig himself are onboard if nick says yes, but with Craig still settling in Nick and producing a new show, if everyone can watch his new show and help give it a chance(once it airs) and it does good, then Hey Arnold might have the chance to come back to Nick again. One of the voice actor's even mentioned that she really thinks TJM is not a if, but a when! :D

It would be kinda cool if they made the jungle movie with Arnold as an adult. Weird I know, but as a kid how would he be able to go on a journey like that? I'm sure they would have made it work. But what if he grew up holding on to his fathers journal with the map inside and went years wondering what happened and as an adult he decides to go looking for them. He doesn't even have to be that old he can be 18 graduating high school. Just a thought. Hey Arnold was always my favorite show and as a soon to be 20 year old woman it still is.

I think I will write a gentle letter tell Nickleodeon how much I liked this show. The Jungle Movie is just the ticket to add closure to the cliffhanger at the end of the series.
Imagining Arnold and Helga together forever, in this case, isn't as gratifying as actually seeing it portrayed in the series.

I hope that something great ends up happening. I think it would be awesome if they made The Jungle Movie and then hopefully if that turns out great they ask for, The Patakis. I don't know what Nickelodeon has to lose. A really awesome show is what they could use (no disrespect). I just really think that a lot of good things could happen for many people if these project came to reality and if they become great productions...

This is going to sound pretty lame but I have been working on a letter for two months. I just graduated college and all of a sudden I can't help myself over this. I've even reminded my friends about the show. They remember it too and now they are having a difficult time as well lol. I'd rather not see any new episodes of HA! but I like to hope one day we'll find out what happens in TJM. I don't care if it's an full length film, a graphic novel, or Craig Bartlett just get's us all together one day in a giant chat room and just tells us.
I'm so happy knowing that in the end, Arnold and Helga get together, but there's to much left unsaid about Arnold's parents that I would like to know. So unrealistic though it may be, I like to believe one day we'll find out :)
