I LOVE Eclipse, and it's a downright shame they won't bring him to the IDW. Not only is he the nost interesting Shadow villain, he's also got an amazing design.
When I saw the Terios skin for Shadow Generations, I thought of his backstory. What if between Biolizard’s creation and Shadow’s creation, there was Terios who acts as the missing link between the two? What if Shadow never met Maria and what if he had the personality of his Boom counterpart? Terios is basically Boom Shadow/Meta Era Edgelord Shadow/STH 2005 Dark Route Shadow who would say that loyalty to one’s friends is pathetic and just a straight up monster who doesn’t hesitate to cause destruction in his wake out of hatred for the world. A flawed and psychotic prototype who’s more powerful than his younger brother but also more unstable in his flow of Chaos Energy. A being full of rage and loathing for all of mankind for creating him. The very thing Shadow opposes. You not only get an evil Shadow to use and a familial Space Colony ARK brother that Shadow can actually talk to but you get a new addition to the Project Shadow lore by having a rouge prototype who’s flaws inform his eventual successor right down to the creation of the inhibitor rings. Pave the way for Shadow’s final design as a nod to his real life roots as a prototype to Shadow and being his dark mirror. Basically if Biolizard had a personality. If they’re not gonna use Eclipse, don’t want to overuse Mephiles and wants an evil Shadow, he can fill out the role no problem. Get a lot of narrative mileage out of his backstory.

We could say that Terios is immune to this disease somehow, and wants to use a genetic sample of his to find a cure. He is assured that Project Shadow will produce a cure, but before the cure can be finalized GUN storms the ARK and Terios is left with his dying family, blaming Shadow personally for the failure. Maybe, Terios' family members could be the other concept designs for Terios? Anyway, I was also thinking that maybe Terios had been sealed away similarly to Shadow, and is discovered by Eggman. Eggman then decides to do some genetic engineering on Terios to make him similar in strength to Shadow?

What if it turns out that Shadow was a clone of a very formidable mercenary long thought to be deceased for decades until he reappears in the present day? The true Shadow the Hedgehog in a sense and in a subversion of the evil clone trope, Shadow is the heroic copy of Terios who’s very nihilistic and misanthropic towards the world like the killer of Persona 4. A nurture versus nature type of conflict with Terios having been born, raised and educated on Mobius/Earth by loving parents but possessed a very sociopathic nature despite while Shadow was grown and raised in a laboratory where he found his noble nature despite being artificially created. It would also make a nice change from the usual evil Shadow archetype of Eclipse and Mephiles where his evil counterpart is a naturally born individual rather than a being made in a lab.

Well, considering the lines in Shadow Generations mentioning both that Doom will prolly be reborn again so Shadow "shouldn't hold back" and that Doom wanted Shadow as his next body, it is pretty much perfect time to bring Eclipse (or something akin to him) to the modern canon. Ian already mentioned that Eclipse is the easiest Archie character to transition into the games and that he would love to do so, the Shadow hype is real so a standalone Shadow game wouldn't be surprising (the Generations game, a movie, a series), the only obstacles are Sega's MAndATes (ooooOoOoo) and maybe some Archie rights thing (but def way less of em unlike echidnas and Freedom Fighters, since Ian Flynn is the creator himself and the current game writer).
I really believe it's a shame what they did with Eclipse. He has such an interesting concept linked to it and feels so naturally like part of the universe. His existence is just logical, it almost makes no sense why he or an alternative version of him doesn't exist in the main games continuity. He's the Anti-Shadow, born from a place of revenge against the original for "betraying his brothers". It's the opposite of Shadow's origins, in which he is pulled out of a vengeful path by intervention of Maria's true desires for him. That being said, I think Eclipse had room to be developed further. If you think about Shadow's history, it's a story about nature vs nurture, the evil nature of the Black Arms fighting against the nurture of a loving sister and father. I think Eclipse had a chance to either twist that in that he follows nature all the way despite being one of the few conscious beings in a hivemind army or that he (only eventually) finds himself without the former option, discards the latter choice and learns to follow a path uniquely his own. In a way, it'd be a story mirroring Shadow, with the stark difference that isntead of companions to guide him to a good path, Eclipse's steps towards it are long, lonesome and filled with stubborn persistence until he has nothing left. At that moment, we see his core... ... and he's a good guy. That'd put a lot of what he did in question and bring an interesting dilemma about morality that would just leave us thinking. It'd also honor his own active participation, highlighting that ultimately, whatever he acts upon is his choice.
This channel and its content have encouraged me to look into the Archie lore (I've even begun reading and picking up some issues of the comic) and honestly Eclipse looks to be a really unique antagonist! Thanks for the awesome video, please keep up the great work!

Nice to a see video about Eclipse. He's a personal favourite Archie Sonic villain since to me is sort of a dark mirror to what Shadow could have been if he didn't form the bonds that he did, and was more loyal to the black arms in Shadow the Hedgehog. Then in Total Eclipse he sort of started forming bonds in a his own way with the dark arms. Its a shame he was only in two arcs, but I really enjoyed him in both of those arcs
I actually roleplayed with him alot back in 2016 or 2017 on a site called Quotev even though now got out of it especially with the lack of Sonic RPers and now messages being gone which is sad and also I loved his design so he aint forgotten to me.
While It will never happen, I would love it if SEGA decided to start using some of the Archie Sonic characters that they have, this unfortunately excludes the Old Timeline though.

@@schemar17 well true but let's have this into account: Shadow didn't need to go super to defeat Black doom this time around thanks to his new Doom powers, Shadow didn't neet to go super againts Mephiles in order to defeat him in 06 but he still needed to remove his ring bracers in order to do so, and this time he had his new doom powers, also let's have into consideraiton that Shadow has way more fighting experience than before. Black Doom literally got killed twice, Mephiles can't really be killed, just sealed away so that speaks a lot about his power, even if he is just the half of a literal time god, can Mephiles use chaos control? we don't really know but it seems he really doesn't need to. Mephiles is weaker than Black doom? most likely but not by a long shot, is Black Doom stronger than Mephiles's true form? Solaris? no fricking way, that literally had to be defeated in both the past, present and future at the same time in order stop it. Being totally honest here, anyone of them would have worked perfectly for the main villain, both of them are cold blooded evil manipulators with a dark aura and a personal vendetta with Shadow
@@alvarox951 Mephiles had to be defeated by Shadow without his rings, Rouge and Omega all at the same time. Still won't matter much because Sonic characters tend to get stronger with time (Sonic beating Perfect Chaos on base, Shadow beating Metal Overlord and Mephiles on base without taking off his rings, etc) so it makes sense Shadow can beat his villains without much help.
He’s the first and only Shadow villain so far that’s clearly designed to be a long-term one while the rest are one and dones until Doom’s Eye was brought back.

As much as I question the viability of pulling some Archie lore back into canon, I think Eclipse was a missed opportunity to give Shadow a proper recurring villain with some depth, but maybe not too much (Basically the Eggman to Shadow's Sonic). That 3D render of Eclipse is very convincing that he would make for a good character in the games, perhaps a Shadow the Hedgehog 2. The only IDW character that comes close to being similar to Eclipse might be Mimic, but he's got a whole other backstory to him and motivations to kill a certain other character that has nothing to do with Shadow, but Mimic also has ties to a group of Wisps and has a similar-looking head-shape and dark eyes. I dunno.... Man I wish they'd write Shadow better in IDW. I still think the mandates have something to do with it, no matter how many times people go back and forth about the mandates' very existence.

I miss Eclipse, he is my number one character i would bring back from Archie. I kinda "shipped" him with Relic, like what if he had kidnapped her and at the "any last words" she starts bombarding him with questions about the Black arms and after a lot of talking he found her interesting enough to not eat, right now. kinda silly but i had fun with that idea.
When it comes to Eclipse I really love his design, except for this one tiny little issue... which is I don't think he needs a mouth on his muzzle, it looks just a little weird without a nose.
That would kill the entire design point which is him to resemble Shadow in a way & just to look appealing for most part, also we dont know what his voice would be but it would definitely represent how he has to breath with mouth only yet he has no clear lungs either in the official 3D Render so it works anyway.
Shadow Generations would have been a perfect opportunity to bring Eclipse into the main game continuity. Flynn created Eclipse and is writing the Shadow part of Generations, making it a perfect combination. But that’s just hopeful thinking on my part.
if we ever get like a shadow sequel game outside of shadow generations i'd love to see like a character that's tied to Shadow's past and the black arms both. Maybe something like another prototype of the ultimate life form project that Black Doom passed his lineage on to.
I 4got about Eclipse, I didn’t think if he might appear in Sonic x Shadow Generation along with all the enemies Shadow faced. Black Doom, Mephiles Biolizard,Neo Metal Sonic & possibly Infinite. That could’ve been total of 5 enemies that Shadow faced.

So with the " Flames of Disaster" killed off screen by Knuckles, its very clear to me that the lore for Sonic 06 is gone out the wind for the Cinematic Universe. So i told my buddy, if they never need to retcon 06 elements inro the movies, Use Ifrit, and as for Mephilies, i proposed making him a clone that leaned into his alien dna. I told him " throw in the new abilities from Generations which for the most part are counters to Shadows Chaos powers could be this his abilities. Actually, Chaos does leave the Emerald during the Shattered World Crisis! it’s been a minute since I’ve read his issues, but he does help out Sonic and the Freedom Fighters at one point.

Ian Flynn clarified that Shadow and Eclispe aren't actually brothers. Eclispe called shadow his brother because they are the same species.

Shadow didn't need to go super to defeat Black doom this time around thanks to his new Doom powers, Shadow didn't neet to go super againts Mephiles in order to defeat him in 06 but he still needed to remove his ring bracers in order to do so, and this time he had his new doom powers, also let's have into consideraiton that Shadow has way more fighting experience than before.
Black Doom literally got killed twice, Mephiles can't really be killed, just sealed away so that speaks a lot about his power, even if he is just the half of a literal time god, can Mephiles use chaos control? we don't really know but it seems he really doesn't need to.
Mephiles is weaker than Black doom? most likely but not by a long shot, is Black Doom stronger than Mephiles's true form? Solaris? no fricking way, that literally had to be defeated in both the past, present and future at the same time in order stop it.
Being totally honest here, anyone of them would have worked perfectly for the main villain, both of them are cold blooded evil manipulators with a dark aura and a personal vendetta with Shadow
@@alvarox951 Mephiles had to be defeated by Shadow without his rings, Rouge and Omega all at the same time. Still won't matter much because Sonic characters tend to get stronger with time (Sonic beating Perfect Chaos on base, Shadow beating Metal Overlord and Mephiles on base without taking off his rings, etc) so it makes sense Shadow can beat his villains without much help.

Easily the best Shadow villain. Talk about a great way to go out before the end of the Archie run. Such a great arc for Shadow.
He’s the first and only Shadow villain so far that’s clearly designed to be a long-term one while the rest are one and dones until Doom’s Eye was brought back.

As much as I question the viability of pulling some Archie lore back into canon, I think Eclipse was a missed opportunity to give Shadow a proper recurring villain with some depth, but maybe not too much (Basically the Eggman to Shadow's Sonic). That 3D render of Eclipse is very convincing that he would make for a good character in the games, perhaps a Shadow the Hedgehog 2.
The only IDW character that comes close to being similar to Eclipse might be Mimic, but he's got a whole other backstory to him and motivations to kill a certain other character that has nothing to do with Shadow, but Mimic also has ties to a group of Wisps and has a similar-looking head-shape and dark eyes. I dunno.... Man I wish they'd write Shadow better in IDW. I still think the mandates have something to do with it, no matter how many times people go back and forth about the mandates' very existence.

I miss Eclipse, he is my number one character i would bring back from Archie.
I kinda "shipped" him with Relic, like what if he had kidnapped her and at the "any last words" she starts bombarding him with questions about the Black arms and after a lot of talking he found her interesting enough to not eat, right now. kinda silly but i had fun with that idea.

When it comes to Eclipse I really love his design, except for this one tiny little issue... which is I don't think he needs a mouth on his muzzle, it looks just a little weird without a nose.
That would kill the entire design point which is him to resemble Shadow in a way & just to look appealing for most part, also we dont know what his voice would be but it would definitely represent how he has to breath with mouth only yet he has no clear lungs either in the official 3D Render so it works anyway.
Shadow Generations would have been a perfect opportunity to bring Eclipse into the main game continuity. Flynn created Eclipse and is writing the Shadow part of Generations, making it a perfect combination. But that’s just hopeful thinking on my part.

I 4got about Eclipse, I didn’t think if he might appear in Sonic x Shadow Generation along with all the enemies Shadow faced. Black Doom, Mephiles Biolizard,Neo Metal Sonic & possibly Infinite. That could’ve been total of 5 enemies that Shadow faced.

Nah save him for the next Shadow game with Black Death too. I’d also like it to be a loose adaptation of Shadow Fall and Total Eclipse.
So with the " Flames of Disaster" killed off screen by Knuckles, its very clear to me that the lore for Sonic 06 is gone out the wind for the Cinematic Universe.
So i told my buddy, if they never need to retcon 06 elements inro the movies, Use Ifrit, and as for Mephilies, i proposed making him a clone that leaned into his alien dna.
I told him " throw in the new abilities from Generations which for the most part are counters to Shadows Chaos powers could be this his abilities. "

Actually, Chaos does leave the Emerald during the Shattered World Crisis! it’s been a minute since I’ve read his issues, but he does help out Sonic and the Freedom Fighters at one point.
