Michael continues the long-awaited restoration of the Hasbro G.I. Joe Cobra Terror Drome from 1986!
I got mad at a Thomas the Tank Engine playset Christmas day, I can't imagine parents in the 80's trying to put this together Christmas day. Lol
I move we rename the Terror Drome to the Frustration Station.
😂😂😂😂😂😂👏🏾👏🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Aka the punch bowl of annoyance.
Can’t wait for part 3
GI Joe playsets and vehicles are always so impressive! Really neat to see this one be restored so well
Been patient.. love to see the conclusion
The patience it takes for restorations is as important as the parts. Great work.
This project shows the love Retroblasting has for these vintage toys. Plus the funky music Michael played during the time lapse segment was great!
Truly a masterpiece of old-world toy technology.
I loved how you used Shipwreck as the Joe prisoner!! 😄😄😄
Cool toy. Can you imagine parents assembling this on Xmas day ?
As somebody who has owned a Terror Drome since the age of 12 (I’m nearly 50 now), I find your ginger handling of the fuel sleds amusing. Conversely, as someone who purchased a Defiant 10 years ago, I totally understand your trepidation. 😂
I spent three months restoring my TerrorDrome and I encountered all your points of concern. I’ve been very eager to see what your approach would be. The fragility before and after restoration makes it purely a display piece. Can barely move it without something wanting to either fall or break off. I’ve had mine on an electric lazy Susan. Put some leds in it. Looks cool. But won’t go anywhere near it 😂 Thanks for doing this series!
I hear that! I picked mine up the other day and there was just a random plastic piece under it and I still dont know where it fell or broke off of
@@tylerjham You’ll find out when you think you are close to getting fully assembled. Thankfully, for most issues there is either a 3d part available (like the hinge pegs) or an ample supply of parts. So many people just gave up and parted theirs out.
Of course Michael has Shipwreck as Cobra's prisoner.😄
The giant T-Rex couldn’t hold Shipwreck, and neither can the Terror Drome!
I dig your candor, French; you don’t sugar coat the restoration, yet you don’t lament it, either. As w/anything worth doin’-it just has to be done. This mini-series has got me jonesin’ for a restoration challenge, myself…
Loved the “No Smoking Armaments” stickers!
Aaah this playset is aptly named ‘Terror’ for sure. It’s gorgeous and fragile. Awesome restoration part 2 - definitely brings back memories of restoring mine.
What I loved from GI Joe and miss with the new toys, is the sense of accomplishment putting the vehicle together. My middle brother and I would work together to get the vehicles built. It was as fun as playing with them afterward.
I LOVED assembling GI Joe vehicles. I never owned anything nearly this big, though.
Just cleaning the Terror Drome alone can be a chore,I can only imagine having to strip and redo all the stickers as well, keep fighting the good fight, sir.
Mike, I miss you and Mel on Saturday live streams. It is always the highlight of my week.
All hail the ARBCO Gas Station! lol, I wish they had added a room with a brainwave scanner in it instead of 3 gas bays, but it's a cool playset for sure!
I just want to know why Cobra puts computer operators surrounding the aperture of a launch bay! Maybe they expect the B.A.T.s to sit there…
At least it isn’t a mission silo.
Fantastic job, Michael.
It is a real shame that these vintage playsets become so brittle over time, as the fear factor is a complication we can all do without.
Between watching both of the videos out so far for this project and It's Chad's video on his custom missile headquarters, I'm pretty inspired to get back into my custom work.
The engineering on this is insane. Great job. Love the t-shirt too. She is, of course, insanely talented but I'm not going to pretend she isn't hotter than hell.
Kylie 😍
That poor bastard Shipwreck is always getting pinched by the man!
This makes me miss my Terror Drome I bought brand new from Kiddie City toys in the Bronx, it was way up on an overstock shelf and was already 10+ years old covered in dust when I spotted it, no idea how it sat there so long.
The two turrets AKA "THE TWIN TOWERS" Brilliant!
AKA - "The Two Towers......" The Twin Towers were in New York City
Would love to see a review of this once completed. Especially after your other reviews of big Gi Joe play sets.
This toy is so complex. I don’t have the patience. Cheers to you for doing this.
Looking beautiful
We never had g.i Joe much in the UK.. these playsets are amazing.
Looks great!
Watching you assemble this thing I can’t help but wonder how many parents were cursing its existence one Christmas morning in the 80s.
The scale of these playsets is immense so many details amazing that you can find parts and get new decals
Man, Michael, your patience is Legen-dary! I would have given up in frustration long ago.
Excellent restoration Michael 👏 I hope you enjoy it as much as I did when I was a kid 😊
Thanks for the kind words, Steven. - Michael
Can't wait for Return of the King
Excellent work Michael! @Retroblasting
Really enjoying this series! Appreciate the explanation behind the reasoning of some of the restoration decisions.
Lovely job sir. Let’s bring this mutha home! Xxx
Wow. Incredible job, Michael. Playset is looking really good and I swear it looks like it came out of the box
Looking forward to part 3 return of the dome
14:30 "A and B tabs, but it's harder to C..." I C what you did there haha
Well done. That terror drome is impressive.
Can see a nice them with the video titles. This is coming along nicely. Can see the colour difference at the end when you have the pieces you need to clean up, compare them to the parts already done.
Super nice work Mike. I looked at one few months ago. It's big, expensive an very overwhelming. So I chickened out
Very good, very well done Michael. Love the restoration videos regardless of what it is. ❤️💯
I'm actually inspired to get a Terror Drome of my own.
Missed this dropping live sorry but I'm watching it now while eating my breakfast
Another great video Retroblasting 👍
It looks so awesome. Maybe I should Start collecting G.I. JOE.
I now want a terror drome after watching this but that is one big playset
You do some amazing work you do can not wait to see part 3
Looks great so far. Very nice job with the Cobra logo!
Clear-backed stickers are the bane of toys, especially large stickers. To expect most parents, never mind kids to get everything applied perfectly and without getting dust or air bubbles under the stickers is folly. This is a big problem with LEGO, which I collect. I really wish that when possible, opaque stickers could be used, at least with such a large and complicated sticker such as the Cobra emblem here on the segments of the launch bay cover. Ideally, of course, silkscreened or other printing would be the best thing.
My god. 😮 What a big playset.
Great job, Michael. Looking forward to part 3.
I love your expertise and descriptions of everything you do. So fascinating.
Great vid when will part 3 be out Michael i was just wondering ?
Thank you Micheal.. Atleast now I can re-assemble back the terror drome with ur assistance.
It looks like new. I can't help but be impressed. After watching your videos for some time I would have to say your nemesis is always Hasbro plastic. I know from experience having just put Roadblock on a figure stand only to watch the corner of his heel pop right off.
Talk about a labor of love...or frustration...but either way, this is impressive to watch. A shame play sets of such scope and scale aren't made anymore.
The Mecca of all toys
Hey so your saying the Terror Drome Restoration is A Terror! Ha ha ha great job.
Why am I painting this all in browns in my head and calling it a Scarlacc. But then I saw the t shirt and forgot all about it. ;)
I've never owned the terror drone I always got to play with it at 1 of my friend's Houses. It's really nice to see this thing completely taken apart And see how it's actually put together in how things actually function.
Great video as always Michael
Wow great work Micheal such a challenge I had one several years ago I traded it for some Star Wars vehicles kinda regret it today since im more into joes.
Maybe one day I will get lucky again
I like the time lapse music.
Lookin' great Michael. I can't wait for Part III.
I love this channel so much, every video is a treat.
Every time you played music for the video… was you swearing? 😂 nice job Michael looks great!
Many years ago, I sold my all G.I Joes. They saw very heavy play so many of them were in bad shape, missing parts, etc. Despite this, I got $100 for them.
Now I wish I had kept them... I could have broken them down and sold the parts individually.
Brilliant job so far. Looking terrific.
Fantastic mate
I have only had success with the sealed container method using regular liquid peroxide, not cream. I have also had great results using just sunlight. I deyellowed two Skystrikers but just placing them in bright direct Sun for a few days.
Cool episode!
Great job👊
Another playset that I wanted BADLY as a kid (this and the Defiant), but I'm kinda glad I didn't get it due to the assembly subsequent maintenance it would have needed.
While you bullshitin' it TOTALLY reminds of P.M.S. (Planned Maintenance Systems) we had to do on our firefighting systems!😂🤣😂🤣
Right down to the diagrams looking NOTHING like the gear you had on hand.😂😂😂😂😂
Heh. Two turrets. I see what you did there.
Does anyone know where you can get the rubber hoses for the gas pumps. Mine deteriorated over time.
Is there a part 3?
We will surely wait for part 3 of this just to see the result
Poor shipwreck got locked up. :(
A lot of people have said that the yellowing returns pretty quickly. Not sure if maybe that depends on the type of plastic, but I did deyellow an Ecto 1 with Salon 40 and the yellowing returned a few months or more later. Joe vehicles I feel are a different plastic than Ecto, and I have yet to try Salon 40 on a Joe vehicle.
I love my set! Don’t care about few chips. But it’s complete. The BAT was complete. Then accident. The guns are no more. That’s ok. I still love my TD
Michael, what is the music you play during the sticker application to the turrets? It’s a nice groove
Darude - Sandstorm
Remember folks if you suffer from a droopy turret consult your doctor
I pity the poor guards who have to watch Shipwreck
the deyellowing works with lego, but it should be some straight sunlight for about 3 days. so no grey foggy weather
How much did one of these cost when it first came out?
I have a question for somebody. So I am in a similar situation where I have an old dirty terror drone somewhere in my garage and basically how do you even start by taking it apart? Like I'm afraid I'm going to break tabs and stuff. Does anyone have any tips or are there instructions on the internet somewhere to show me how to actually start to take it apart to even start the cleaning process? That would be great, thank you!
If you do all of the peroxide stuff good. Next make a blue UV light chamber to simulate 24hr sunlight
Your welcome
It's crazy to think this was made for kids.
Well it's not called the terror drome for nothing. 😜
How much did it cost
Video intro, read, you did not
its looking great , but i got thinking how awesome that would look with some lighting , i know its a restoration, but did you ever think about adding some lighting? maybe via lego kits where they are just plug in an light.
We don't do that kind of thing around here. I'm a vintage toy historian, not a diorama circus.
@@retroblasting i like how you answered my question via a doctor mccoy response ,lol 🤣🤣
The size makes it such an American toy. Couldn’t fit it in most UK houses - parents wouldn’t allow it!
Why not just center the Cobra symbol between the turrets???
It does seem odd, but that’s what the instructions show. I can’t see any reason to have it slightly askew though. Maybe the toy designers thought it would be easier to apply in mirrored halves due to the way the segments of the opening had to be engineered. It just looks strange, though.
bored of the ring, the two turrets - very clever
everybody that matters likes you and what you do
tell broken vader i said sup brah
and is that another kylie shirt?! just stop michael!!
😅😅😅
RetroBlasting Presents: Lord of the Puns- A Terror Drome Series
I would like to state for the record, that I am, my wife have turned the volume down during the Time-Lapse and we inserted the one piece of music that Toy Polloi uses on occasion . We understand that we are interfering with the “director’s vision” but like re-editing the Obi-Wan series, sometimes ya just gotta do what feels best. LOL 😝
And you thought by leaving this comment, that somehow you wouldn't come off like a douchebag, and that my reaction would be.... what? (My channel existed and was repairing toys years before Toy Polloi showed up. And given that you have no actual knowledge of the kind of relationship between Dave and myself, this was a serious miscalculation on your part.)
I don't even understand what this guy is trying to say, so congratulations on decoding it.@@retroblasting
@@retroblastingI liked the music you used. It was fun and funky. The Average White Band did a great remake of the Isley Brother’s song, Work to Do, that is fun to sing along to while working on something.
The diagram is insane detailed. Very impressive. I don’t know how to read it exactly. Amazing work, Michael! 🫡👏🏻
