You can tell he wanted the R8, but just trying to find ways to justify the I8 to not feel buyers remorse imo
I was honestly totally completely torn between the i8 and the R8. I ended up going with the R8 because everyone who was into cars suggested that whereas everyone who knew nothing about cars suggested the i8.
Anyway, I'm not at all in doubt I made the right decision. If I made a similar video all I would have to do is a cold start in a parking garage or drive through a tunnel and it would be over.
I'm considering buying an i8 also anyway just cuz, but idk if I would ever drive it over the R8. Might just get a Gallardo instead.
Price is a big factor, i8 is a cheaper alternative to the r8, and the r8 is a cheaper choice compared to say a Huracan.
If you were into cars then you would get neither but if you just go for looks then i8.
I bought an i8 3 months ago. I also looked at R8 V10 and Jaguar F Type R. After driving these 3 cars I realized something. The i8 is not just about 0-60 times. It's respectable but that's only a part of the i8 equation. Around 4.4 sec is fast enough for me. It's the entire rest of the equation that drew me too the i8. Hybrid gas/electric. Full electric. Both. Take your pick for your driving environment. It's what the i8 does and how it does it that's completely fascinating. It's BMW's vision of what the future could become. It's simply an amazing example of engineering technology. You have to own one to fully understand it. And I love mine like a silly love struck teenager. :-) My .02c
What do you do for a living
I bought an I8 Roadster 4 months ago with 15K miles on it. Pristine condition and I'm exactly like you James, like a silly love struck teenager. It's the total car, how versatile and lovely it is to drive. You have to own one to get it, but there is oh so much that one gets with this car. Never owned anything comparable to the i8.

The 1st generation nsx is a proper supermarket, it has a v6 and doesn't make much power.

I own a Ferrari 488 Pista, a Portofino an 992 convertible and an i8 roadster. The i8 has not the power as the other cars, it handles not as the 992 but it allways gives me the feeling to drive a very unique concept car and piece of BMW history. And for me, it's the best looking car of all of mine. And I would not think a second about a R8.

I personally don’t like the I8 BMW but, from a Financial/Reliability standpoint I agree that it was the best move. I know allot of people won’t agree because they are leaning towards the R8, but the R8 is expensive to maintain unless you have the money to blow. It’s like asking someone you rather have an N54 or N55? A smart person would say N55 and dumb person would say N54. Why? Because with N54 you get more power?!?!? Power isn’t always the best thing, reliability is.

Dude, you don’t have to justify why you bought the I8. Is a nice car and newer then the R8 (at same price), I believe the I8 is quicker then the stock R8 V8, unless you can afford the V10 don’t bother with the V8.
Keep doing what you doing, make more content on the I8. Look at Rich rebuild channel and see what his done to his I8 was pretty amazing.

Nour you need to check on the front rim I noticed that it's not going in the same direction as the back rim (maybe you need to switch around the front rims left to right)

1:57 the R8 doesn't have a cassette player... you just need to buy an $80 MMI attachment and plug it in behind the seat and voilà, you have Bluetooth.
I just bought this same car with the same mileage (but Pure Impulse World) for $72,000 so it looks like it's retained its value pretty well.
I daily drive the i8 but still want to try the 2012+ R8. Be sure you only own the car under warranty. A failed Air Conditioning compressor can fail causing $18k of damage. Parts aren't cheap so please beware. Also, the rear wheels are on the wrong sides of the car. I'd have them swapped.

The i8 seems to be just misunderstood for it's purpose. I say i8 was the best investment. When you think about it there was a thought process when making this car.

I think you saying that its an entry "super car" for someone who doesn't know if they want a super car is the best way to put it. This would be the equivalent of the v8 r8, but when most people refer to the r8 as a super car, its normally the v10. not trying to bring you down either by the way. So proud of you for being able to do all this. Like you're still so young and have so much more ahead of you; however, an i8 is purely super car looks, thats it. Kinda like the vaydor supercar made from a g35. Supercar looks, not super car performance.

Mine has never been in the shop, 2019 Roadster, except for routine maintenance. Never a glitch or a flaw. Just my experience but wanted to let you know one person's experience. Do your friends own the i8?

I have been following you both and you can see he is getting a lot of views on his videos. You need start getting some more V8s on the channel. e.g. M5...V10 even... Mercedes e63..s63...c63...e63 cls 63...m6...gtr...v6 but amazing....
The only people that call the i8 a “supercar” are middle class people who bought the i8 and make videos convincing themselves that they didn’t just buy a car that BMW used to give away for 30k under sticker.

Mine does just fine with speed bumps and longer/wider humps, they are all over my neighborhood. Not a problem.
