Thank you Henry for another interesting video. I'm in my early seventies and use to walk many miles around the lake district photographing the landscapes. You bring back so many memories to me of the paces I use to photograph, so it's a pleasure to see you doing the same. I only wish I was more fit to continue with the walking, but I am semi disabled and can now only manage 'layby landscapes' Always great to watch your videos which are full of interesting information as well, take care, Charles.
I'm in the same boat as you Charles. I'm of mixed emotions.. So enjoyed the hike with you Henry, so thanks for that. It hurts a bit knowing those days are over for me. I guess you might call it "bitter sweet", but keep on keeping on. Enjoying the walk vicariously is still a pleasure.
I could just say "ditto" as I'm just entering my 70s and though I can still walk the mostly flat hikes here in the US I would love dearly to be able to hike the hills and mountains near our cabin in North Carolina. Here in Mississippi where we live there is very little public land available to walk on but I am able to enjoy jaunts around our farm of a little over 200 acres. I rode horses my entire life but those days are probably over as well. Enjoy your life Henry while you can. Those of us who are struggling a bit are enjoying them with you.

Yes, you're very lucky to have access to this landscape. Living in (almost) outback Australia, mine is the complete opposite - flat, dusty, and dry.

I liked your observation about finding photographs and how other people notice things you could shoot. Reminds me other those days you go for a walk or drive and find nothing. Day or two later you find yourself in the same place just tripping over images. Joy of photography, you never know what you'll find. As for your pie craving. My wife and I carry a small cooler with us so we can take things like that home to enjoy. Cheers.
Hi Henry, a great video, mate! You know, as someone who lives in the heart of the Alps, I'm always surprised about the elevations that really seem to exist in a more "flat" country like UK 😀 I'm pretty sure, most here in my area are completely underestimating that. So, thank you for sharing that in your videos! I would really like to go to UK one day for some amazing photography tours and also for some nice hiking tours. We will see.

I Think it's great that such a well maintained and beautiful walk such as this can go through a neighborhood where visitors can enjoy their walk between yards and homeowners are tolerant and perhaps, even welcoming. Bravo Windermere!

You mention a couple of times about little patches of light in the distance and I think that its easy for photographers to become obsessed with having great light illuminating parts of a scene. One thing I've come to notice about my photography over the years is that if you have a great sky, you don't always need great like on the landscape- make the sky the star of the show. You said also that people see things differently and maybe see things that you don't necessarily see, which is always going to be the case. So I would say point your camera upwards more often Henry - a wide angle lens can often turn even what appears to be a run of the mill sky into something quite dramatic
Calender ordered. Nice to see Windemere and Bo'ness, fond memories of driving for Stagecoach from Kendal to Keswick.
Although it was one of those days where you didn't come back with a haul of images, the moment up top the hill made the trip certainly made your day by the looks of it Henry. With so much beauty on the door step, it is not difficult to see the attraction of living there
I'll never forget my last Hill Top experience either - In late 2019 on one early morning, Beatrix Potter's farmhouse (where she didn't live, by the way) was full of tourists from China all wearing masks. Little did we know what was to follow.
I love going on photo walks with a friend or our local photography group - it's so much fun to see the day through other's eyes. I often wonder "How'd I miss that!" :-) Your image of the sheep is fabulous and would look amazing anywhere you hang it!
Maybe said gate was blocked by a brassed off shepherd because people don’t close it properly?

This was my playground, many happy hours spent playing on School Knott, Orrest Head Post Knott and of course beside and on the lake. Things have changed a bit in the intervening 50 years!
I still live less than 15 miles away, and still appreciate my luck!👌

Landscapes associated with events and authors sometimes give me goosebumps too. It's like "Yes!" But to be fair there are other times when I'll go "So...."

Many thanks Henry for this enjoyable video. As an Aussie, I was seeing images everywhere and feel my camera would be clicking in overtime! Looking forward to seeing your calendar, rather lately ordered. Those gates you pass through, plus stiles, are extremely different to the ones here, and far more ingenious. Have you ever thought of photographing them? A lot of them are full of character and age, along with the stone walls. I can understand that to you, living there, they are just a means of passing through, but a lot of us in this world might not see them that way. Most of ours have no personality at all being modern metal ones. Look forward to the next chapter in your life!🇦🇺

Never mind the 1930s -- If I lived in an area like this, I'd consider it mind-blowing now! 🙂 It's a "million miles" from anything we have in my state of Louisiana... Great video, Henry. I love seeing other areas, even the towns. Your references to the small areas of light reminds me of what amateur astronomers do (I've been one for more than 35 years): Even the smallest little fleeting patch of blue sky will get us all excited that it's "clearing off"!!

Looked a grand day out around Windermere and up into the hills Henry. Dont need to get images every time and retracing Alfred Wainwrights initial Lake District steps must have been something to remember.

I did some of this walk a couple weeks ago , doing wainwrights outlying fells, the light on the tarn was really good, i got some great shots with the trees and reeds
Nice wee walk Henry. Bet you wish you'd taken the OM5 with you instead of the Nikon outfit! 🙂 I did Orrest Head a few years back and got a nice pano of the fells over Windermere but i also got a nice shot of the fells to the east which, in hindsight, I actually prefer over the better known view.
Great video Henry as always, loved seeing your raw emotion after you topped wainwrights 1st walk, I would like to do the walk and loop, and to see if I could get a couple of images at that place with the little waterfall, house and bridge,

Thanks, Henry. Another enjoyable adventure. After seeing so many, a question came to mind. Are most of these gates installed by property owners, or is there government money provided in assistance?
Still looks like a lot of the trees haven't reached their peak yet. Here in Canada I might have one weekend left to get out. Already been out a few times trying out my new Z30 with DJI RS3 Mini Gimble and of course some shots with the Z7II. Looking forward to some great Autumn shots from you, but yes agree 100% it's still great to out and explore. Great video Henry and now I have a craving for a meat pie.
Another awesome video. I know there have been times when you have taken shots that included the stone walls, but I am wondering if you have ever taken just shots revolving around them? I am amazed at how they are so different in so many ways.

@@HenryTurnerphoto growing up in New England, I remember seeing all of the old stone walls and how they were so amazing and different. I am now living in the south were it doesn't get quite so cold on my old bones, and there are some but no where near as many. One of these days I am going to try and do a series on the ones I can find.

I really enjoyed this vlog Henry, a very interesting tour of Windermere that shows that there's another aspect of it beyond the town itself. @@HenryTurnerphoto it's a lovely accent. I'm Irish myself (west). You say "yous" and "yis" like people I know from Cavan (may well be more widespread as you head more north). Where I come from we still say "ye" for plural you.
