i relate to chespin a ton. im always scared of talking over people, scared of saying something wrong, scared im being annoying and the person doesnt like me. though chespin might have a crush on fennikin, i dont think its right to call him a simp, i think he just doesnt have a lot of friends or confidence and hes scared of messing up with fennikin.

Finally rewatching this. I absolutely loved the STARTERS series; Typomaniac and Lavender Town are definitely my favorite. Something I especially love about this series is the simplicity and the writing. When Fennekin and Chespin were in the woods together, it was kind of awkward, but that's perfect! It perfectly represents two teenagers, who are interested in each other, spending time together, and I love it.

I'm bored, so I wrote down the entire "Motivation" Speech by Mudkip! Enjoy it! ;)
"Motivation. There's that word I've come to love so much during my existence. And a word I probably don't even understand. Look at this guy. Trying to sympathize me with his life story. What will motivate me to care? Key words, connections? I dunno. I'm not even sure why I'm here in the first place. But it'll never get a word out of me. Not to talk is not the smartest thing to do, they could jump to conclusions, and then haul me off to prison. Or send me to the chair! Whatever, I don't mind. What motivates me not to talk? I don't know, what motivates the Pokemon around me to talk? I'm not listening to him, HE even knows that. What motivates everyone here to try to get an answer?! But, what really motivates someone not to do anything at all? Is it the food they eat? The crap they watch? The job they work? The life condition they're in? Sometimes, that's not even the case, if you ask them yourself, they probably won't even know the answer! Hey, I don't even know what motivates me to do what I do. You see, I'm a scientist. I dissect Pokemon to see how their bodies work. Is it the fascination I get to see how everything is put together? Or is it the thrill killing these Pokemon, because they're usually mostly the ones I hate. It's okay, it's all for the research! :D

I think this one is my favourite in the starter series, I could never fully get on board with the animations about fnaf or inside out but I've been a fan of the starters since the first one. I heard your story about the class laughing at you, asking "why are you making pokemon fanfic?" - can't say I'm not surprised that showing this to a class in highschool was a mistake but... there's something really fascinating about these. They're full on short movies and the writing is actually a lot more interesting than people give it credit for. The awkward teens in the woods works so well even though it's quiet and oddly paced. I especially enjoy fennekin and mudkips interactions, I'm not sure he was ever her friend or was really there to help her but I think maybe he relates to her in a way being a bitter outcast himself. It's sorta too bad they couldn't get along in any genuine way and he was probably just going to murder her but hey, maybe that's part of what makes the dynamic and uncomfortable interactions so hard to look away from?
The fan fic style story telling and pokemon focus especially and you doing all the voices yourself really could be seen from a "cringe" angle; and I'll admit the first thought I had was something like "wtf is this" but it really grows on you in a way. Not that you focus much on pokemon lore itself but I actually really do enjoy this take on things more than I thought, it reminds me of deviantart days and communities I've seen but never been a part of myself. I think it's legitimately really good even if you think it's a bit too dramatic or takes itself too seriously now years later. It's got me relating to characters, interactions, friendships and making me think about what goes on in my own head or experiences I've had beyond just a silly cartoon.
You got a cult following for a reason and I think this channel is the perfect example of why ignoring normal society to create what you're passionate about is so awe inspiring. You are the definition of the romantic artist. Just creating for the sake of creating something great and sharing it with the world. I got so much respect for you for that and while it's awkward to recommend this series to friends; I have done it before even when I knew it'd just get a few raised eyebrows and questions like "Why would you be watching this?" - regardless I'm still willing to double down and tell them it's fun to watch and actually interesting if they give it a chance.

Oh my god, I watched this when I was a kid and didn't realize how dark it was 😭. I ended up thinking it was a fever dream, like I never experienced this, and then it popped up in my reccomended section and I freaked out. I watched it again, and it's so good! Mudkip's internal monologues are so cathartic it makes me forget this has anything to do with Pokémon.

chespin is literally me. I’m always afraid of not being a people pleaser I’m always afraid of not making people happy, whenever I make friends I feel really happy but they usually aren’t on the same level, I’m always afraid of not just you know… I don’t know how to describe it but not being really liked, I get bad reception by most and I just kind of ignore it but after a while it gets to me, I tend to be by myself most of the time, I’m kinda self conscious, I hate how I look, I’m like average height at my school yet I’m short to most and they are all like stronger than me and I’m all weak and I’m just insufficient I guess.

Both this and lavender town are extremely immersive, yet this one is on another level, the profound theme, depth of emotion between the 3 protagonists is unlike anything ive seen anywhere else. I have no idea what to think of this. The fenniken line is my favorite Pokémon(s) and the chespin line is my friend’s favorite and I really like it too. This whole thing was an emotional rollercoaster. I actually relate a lot with fenniken. I can be short tempered and that has led to me hurting my friends. Basically replace her interest in movies with video games and you have me. I’m even a new kid at school. And chespin is quite a bit like that friend I mentioned. The feeling I feel after this is just, I don’t know. Maybe sadness, maybe that feeling of being lost in thought, or hell even fear of how relatable this was. I just wish I knew how to explain it, and I wish I new how to explain/talk about my thoughts better.
