If you are taken in front of a judge accused of a crime, there is very little chance you will be found innocent. They have hair and clothing fibres, that's about all they need for conviction.. Japan doesn't have a death penalty as far as i know, except for the worst offenders that are 100% proven (nothing is 100% in any judicial system). So Misa would of been sentenced to proper life in prison, and if anyone died of a heart attack in her prison she would probably be blamed and silently murdered.

Tbh the second half suffers from severe pacing issues because they condensed it so much-could have been a little longer. That said, that's the thing about many Japanese series and anime that I love more than your usual long-running shows. When you're making things up as you go, you almost always run into consistency issues

I feel like Light's father asked what is the meaning of this because it was shocking to him the way she was being held, he already knew Misa was the suspect anyway, just my feeling though. Bringing in L and introducing the cat mouse psychological game, sealed the deal for me as it paralleled Raskolnikov's relationship with the police inspector.
I think a lot of the times, women (and men vice versa) do love to relate more to men like Lola. They get along better with men in some ways. So that could be why Lola likes a lot more men in anime/shows than women. XD just guessing. Also on the legality of what L was doing to Misa at the police station. He is probably given special authority in these extreme situations to do things like this. The U.S. government was also gave this authority to individuals for extreme cases (I.E. terrorism) to do things like what was seen in this show. Kira is an extreme case, L is and the others are doing what they think they need to do to catch a mass murderer. Think it's pretty understandable.
Regarding how they are holding Misa for interrogation, they still don't understand how the Kira power works, but it seems to them like all Kira needs is to see your face and they can kill you, so they likely see those extreme measures as justified in this case due to Kira's exceptional power

Misa is completely messed up in the head, but the thing is that she is doing this out of love to Light and Kira. Light because she is nuts, but Kira because of her parents. Her taking up the death note is her way of remembering her parents, and her view of a better future. Don't get me wrong, I still think it is messed up, but her decision is out of emotion, and it is a relatable emotion. Loss is something that people can empathize with. Light is doing this not only because he thinks that it is a better path to the future, but because he has a god complex. He declares himself god of the new world. Most people have a hard time empathizing with someone like Light. Don't get me wrong, I feel that the both of them have corrupted goals. Throughout the show I root against Light and Misa. I won't mention anything beyond this point in the show because of spoiler reasons.
I think it's pretty clear. She acts like a child. Puts on a pretty good façade. Also she's much more sympathetic because "Light" (really Kira) killed the person who killed her parents. So her views are pretty twisted by that.
Just a thought, the rules can only be applied for normal scenario and for normal murdered. Not someone who kills anybody just if they know their name and face. All of them are risking their life here for catching Kira and it is the least insurance they can get.

Could you watch Vinland saga next? Season 2 is coming up later this year and season 1 is an outright masterpiece. The music, scenery, fights, characters, concept and philosophy of this anime are absolutely magnificent. + its only 24 episodes.

About Dostoevsky: For me, this show resembles a modern Platonic dialogue. With the central theme being justice, and the death note being another incarnation of the ring of gyges. Also about L and Light having to feel something for each other: I think what they feel is some sort of respect.
Some people always have a good question about the show which is why L don't go straight for arresting or killing Light and the answer is because more than his identity, L wants to know how he can kill people.
I think it was mostly the burden of proof. L had DNA evidence that tied misa to the tapes of the second Kira. L does not have any evidence that proves Light is Kira. Instinct, suspicion or gut feeling don’t amount to anything in the justice system without evidence to prove or disprove it.

If you have some SCP type entity that can kill via supernatural means that you're not fully aware of, you contain it pretty much in the same way L did. Yes, the law is broken, the same way Shinigami have been breaking the laws of physics. Also, L knew Misa was not Light's girlfriend immediately due to Lights strong virgin vibes. When you two lovely ladies finish the series.. I highly recommend the Japanese live-action 2 part film of Death note.. it's basically everything here, but it stops at the logical end of the show, with a new ending for the film... it does cut out my favorite character, but small price to pay.. And then after, if you want to see a live-action done horrible, then watch the American netflix version, which is fucking terrible
I think the manga author said that he considers both Light and L evil because L is willing to do underhanded and unethical things. Also the investigation is mostley for L pride so that he can beat Kira. I also think he called L a sociopath who is willing to throw away most peoples lifes for the investigation.
Actually, he said that he personally sees Light as very evil, L as slightly evil and Soichiro as the only one who is truly righteous. Light was a villain; L was a morally gray character. I have the vol. 13, but I don't remember reading anything about L being called a Sociopath. In fact (and this is not something confirmed by Ohba or Obata, just a safe guess) L seems to fit much more into the autistic spectrum than anything else.
I think in the show all affection (that leads a shinigami to extend a human’s life by killing someone else) falls under love. If we want to get specific, I felt that Rem’s affection for misa feels familial like how a mom, sister or best friend would care for someone but that’s just my opinion.

About Dostoevsky: For me, this show resembles a modern Platonic dialogue. With the central theme being justice, and the death note being another incarnation of the ring of gyges.

Some people always have a good question about the show which is why L don't go straight for arresting or killing Light and the answer is because more than his identity, L wants to know how he can kill people.
Near explains it pretty much in the end. That would not be justice if they cannot prove who is Kira. Then it would be just a pre-emptive murder
I think it was mostly the burden of proof. L had DNA evidence that tied misa to the tapes of the second Kira. L does not have any evidence that proves Light is Kira. Instinct, suspicion or gut feeling don’t amount to anything in the justice system without evidence to prove or disprove it.

When you two lovely ladies finish the series.. I highly recommend the Japanese live-action 2 part film of Death note.. it's basically everything here, but it stops at the logical end of the show, with a new ending for the film... it does cut out my favorite character, but small price to pay..
And then after, if you want to see a live-action done horrible, then watch the American netflix version, which is fucking terrible

I think the manga author said that he considers both Light and L evil because L is willing to do underhanded and unethical things. Also the investigation is mostley for L pride so that he can beat Kira. I also think he called L a sociopath who is willing to throw away most peoples lifes for the investigation.
Actually, he said that he personally sees Light as very evil, L as slightly evil and Soichiro as the only one who is truly righteous.
Light was a villain; L was a morally gray character.
I have the vol. 13, but I don't remember reading anything about L being called a Sociopath. In fact (and this is not something confirmed by Ohba or Obata, just a safe guess) L seems to fit much more into the autistic spectrum than anything else.

For shinigami there seems to be no difference.
I think in the show all affection (that leads a shinigami to extend a human’s life by killing someone else) falls under love. If we want to get specific, I felt that Rem’s affection for misa feels familial like how a mom, sister or best friend would care for someone but that’s just my opinion.
