I was afraid after the last shotgun king video that he would never play it again, as he was a bit triggered by the randomness of the bullets.

@@manguy01 i dont really get what youre trying to say here, from what ive seen you HAVE to go to 0 shields to do a move that kills you if you fail, even if that shot has a 100% chance of not losing, or does the game simulate the shot, then takes a shield if rng fails?
@@Moon-qp5xy if there is a risk of missing, you have to go down to 0 shields even if the risk is very very low, but a point blank shot will not require that.
@@Moon-qp5xy the shields usually don’t activate when the enemy is point blank and weak enough to die in one shot, idk why they activated there
@@koifish528 He doesn't actually aim at the queen but the space behind it, which makes it not a 100%

NL yells at chat for not reading the cards, but he always forgets about the Queen moving 3 spaces limiter card when he gets it.

I see bears occasionally when I go to their house to look for them. It takes a tremendous amount of effort though since there are so few in my area. Generally it takes me around 300 hours of searching before I find one.
I live by where NL grew up. If you wanna see bears we just go to the dump.

Glad to see more Shotgun King back! I bought this on Steam thanks to your videos. Its fun playing a round or two for a quick puzzle game.
When that song came out I was in Jr. High and my girlfriend also thought the lyric was "The cross eyed bear that you gave to me"... and I had given her a little ring with a teddy bear on it so it became a thing... odd. In hindsight I think she had hearing issues. She had the lyrics wrong to most songs.
Shotgun king converts pawns to poggs in a way I can't describe.
Imagine starting the game with 8 Poggs

21:20 I don't think the grenade can end the game because the order of operations is:
1. Fire Shotgun/Move/Throw Grenade
2. If still in check, lose the game
3. All white pieces move
4. Grenade explodes
So even if the grenade puts you in check it doesn't matter because it's your turn again.
Yes! I am obsessed with this game. All I've been thinking about the past day or so.
Edit: having cleared Hard mode, mobility and firepower are the focus for me. I prefer getting at least a line of pawns to block movement of heavier pieces, a blunderbuss, and weakened rooks that give ammo on kill. If you can manage small-fry harvest too, you end up being able to shit bullets at closer range and wipe out swatch of enemies while getting ammo back. Very good. Throw and hop, with a moat and August Presence are insane. August presence is so good for board control, combining it with Kingly Shoulders, means you can always keep people out of your personal space.
I find that I like range so I can just start blasting right from the start. Add some firepower and some way to refill ammo like the Pawn Harvest one and you can pog off.
Edit: Also High Focus and August Presence is my jam.
@@int3r4ct I will absolutely forgo a range upgrade for a movement option, but I have been considering trying for a moat sniper build with lots of pawns or bishops. Have you ever added a cornered despot into a high focus sniper? Seems like it'd be insane.
My favourite card is definitely the one with the firepower and accuracy when you aren't adjacent to anything. Stacking that up a bit gives greatly needed firepower for board control at high levels. That and subtle poison to clamp down on the enemies response and limit discovered checks
@@JimJamTheAdmin Sniper falls off a lot once you leave Normal mode, since you only get one shot with it by default. Moat just isn't very much value compared to other upgrades, and I wouldn't even recommend it for the sniper build. If you actually do get all the sniper pieces (Crow's Blessing, Engraved Scope, Cornered Despot, Extra Barrel x2, Courteous Jousting) it can be good. But that is A LOT of upgrades, and you need pretty much all of them to function well.
@@G.Aaron.Fisher I would agree after like thirty losses in a row, Moat ended up being far less valuable for me than just a straight firepower upgrade. I also, learned some hard lessons about the actual value of blunderbuss. The firing arc increase is just miserable to actually play with at any range. I found that I think I was underating the loafs and overrating moat and august presence, since they are very bad to get early game, I feel like I wanted more power or accuracy for my first few upgrades. I'm not sure, really. It's brutal up here.
Edit: I feel like the most impact I can get right away is a new soul slot and a second barrel. That's what is giving me the most success lately.

I've seen bears many times in the nearby hills, and on camping trips. Even weirder, to me at least, there was once a mountain lion just chilling on a lawn a few doors down from my house.
Shotgun King could've been the new Dicey Dungeons but the madlad has actually done it and I am Pogging
31:20 - The Queen could not come closer anc check you, because pieces cannot come near your king (card benefit).
That also means that the Rook at the bottom-right cannot come to check you from the right. He can only move to the left 1 square to check you from the bottom. And if there was a piece there, he could not check you at all.
So, note - you can block rooks moving to check you if you are one row/line off of their position.
For example, 31:38 - the rook from the top had no way of threatening you (pawn at the top of you blocked his line of sight), so he had to come to the bottom side of the board instead.
31:53 - same thing. Rook was on the next row to you, and could not come to the same line as you to check you.
That Floor 3 was painful to watch. My guy only needed to shoot to be fine, but he kept running to the edge of the board and risking checkmate.

Gonna be real with you, I haven’t seen a bear outside of a zoo, but me and some friends were camping one time and we’d smoked some pot that night and were laughing our asses off in the tent, that is until the campsite office called us and told us that we needed to stay in the tents cause there was a bear spotted within 100 feet of where we were at.
Can’t say we were too happy after that. 😅

I did a summer job surveying understory growth in the protected part of the cedar river watershed. We had to stop work and get in the car while a bear walked by.
Yeah i saw 1 when i was 12 in the wood. There was rumor of a bear rummaging through garbage box in the area. And i decided to go do some small motocross on a trail. I saw an animal ahead. Thought it was a groundhog, got closer, realised it was a baby bear, turn the bike right away and i ran at max speed before mama bear show up.

I have had bears close enough to touch, several times, but since I am not an idiot, I did not, in fact, touch them. BTW Three Kings is one of the best movies I've ever seen.

My dog chased a bear up a tree in my backyard once, when I lived in the mountains
As someone who deals with bears every other day do not run from a bear you will not outrun it. Black bears are more scared of you then you are of them only about 5 percent are aggressive. Don't fuck with grizzlys if you see one stay more than 200 ft away from it, normally they want nothing to do with you. Now if the bears have cubs then they will 100 percent attack you both back and grizzly don't fuck with moma bear and her cubs stay as far as possible from them.
Somehow watching NL play this game is 100x more terrifying than playing it yourself.

@@bruh3457 the one that replaces the king with a bishop + some bishop movement upgrades including the red book. If the artwork of theocracy changes during the boss fight, you're on the right path.
You can never outrun a bear
Back when I was 15, I was at a cabin my family owns in Pennsylvania, I was sitting outside by a campfire and a black bear cub walked up to me and stole my chips and that's the day I learned that bears like, grunt cause I saw mama and papa bear moving in to get their cub and they were making a lot of noise.
I saw a bear eating apples from the trees in the backyard when i visited my grandma once...
I have not ever seen a bear in real life that wasn’t at a zoo. Which is surprising, because I lived for a long time in some pretty bear heavy countryside. My dad’s dog was attacked by a bear, he had a bear walk up to his window and tear the screen out. But they were never there when I was around.

Yeah I’ve seen several bears irl before. Not that uncommon in the northeast US. Seen some on the road up in NH, saw a ton at my fiancé’s family mountain house in PA.
One time in Canada at my cousins house there was a bear in their backyard and once a bear broke into our family cabin in Ontario

Humans can outrun all animals on lengths longer than 200m, and most animals on shorter distances. Bears are pretty slow
Bears can run 25-35 MPH relatively easily depending on the species, with Grizzy Bears having the top speed. Human stamina outperforms long-term, but a bear *will* catch you without a significant distance to start with. For reference, Usain Bolt holds the record for fastest sprint speed at 27 MPH compared to the 25-35 of the average bear.
I think you may have misjudged the capabilities of either bears or humans, or I simply disagree that bears can be classified as slow. :o

I picked this up after watching a different youtuber showcase it. Played it and beat it on my first run then never came back. I'm decent at chess, but far from actually good. Maybe because actual chess players like NL hyperthink too much that makes it harder for them?
If he ever plays this game again, he's gonna quickly realize normal is just easy mode
I think if the computer actively played to check mate him and played optimally he would play better because he is actually good at chess.
