Fun fact: you remember "Where the Hell is Matt?", the videos by Matt Harding of him dancing all over the world, that went super viral? He used to work at Pandemic Studios, the original devs, and _he pitched this game, as a joke._ Apparently it all went down after Microsoft shot down a more family-friendly pitch he'd worked really hard on, and he sarcastically suggested they should make a game where you play as an alien invader who wants to kill humanity, joking that they could call it "Destroy All Humans!" His co-workers thought it sounded hilarious, and eventually they began _actually planning it._ And no, despite common rumors, he _did not_ leave the company in disgust due to this, he just didn't feel like working on it and wanted to pursue an independent career; though the devs do credit him as the one who suggested the game should take a comedic, satirical tone parodying schlocky sci-fi horror.
One of the issues (probably the main) with that game is the licensed music. It's a core part of the experience. It will be very costly to get it again for what it's essentially not very well known game. Also, some levels need reworking balancing.
ive been waiting years man since my moms friends bf let me play it on his original Xbox when i was like 8. i would jump at that for current or next gen. you old heads had some gems.

Rebel Without a Cause. The Room's line in that film paid homage to it. Though it seems a lot of people are more affiliated with The Room then Rebel Without a Cause.
As the commenter above said, it is a reference to Rebel, which The Room tried to pay homage too. Tommy Wiseau was a huge fan of classic cinema and tried to emulate what he saw in the films that he loved. Unlike Tarantino however, his efforts are... questionable. All that said, 'The Room' is much more of a widely known and celebrated modern cultural phenomenon than 'Rebel', so I feel that it was a missed opportunity to reference 'The Room' rather than 'Rebel' (again) in the remake. But maybe that is just me.
If someone in the studio actually watched the room before 2006 And referenced it they would have ultimate memer credit, but as the other fellas said is probably rebel
I remember playing this back on the PS2 when I was super young and I never even got past the first couple missions cause I was to young to figure out what the game would want me to do (even with the tutorials on lol) and at that time the only video games I wanted to play were FPS's so I'm almost positive I just went in there trying to shoot anyone and everyone so that's probably a big reason why I never beat the first couple levels lol
Shit, I felt old when "Medieval" got an HD remake!!!! In '05 I was graduating High School, listening to Cradle of Filth While Saw II played in the background.
If I can recommend a game to be remaked it be PS2's War of the Monsters! An awesome love letter to Kaiju/giant robot movies that had combat and destructible maps. Hell one of the features it sorely lacked was 4 player split screen that a remake could surely fix.
I'd kill for a sandbox version of this game. No crappy stealth sections and reloading at the last checkpoint, just a large world to destroy and screw around in. Perhaps if the remake does well enough they'll make a proper sequel.
I hate commenting in the public sphere to largely say the same thing, but the anti communist humor in DAH 1 was absolutely based on the red scare and perceived domino effect rather than actual communism, which was more a running joke in the sequel.

Loved the shit out of this game back in the day, on Xbox. The team who remade this did an amazing job. 6th generation was an awesome time to be a gamer. It was back when developers took wild or silly ideas and ran with it. There were so many gems like this game. Nowadays, everything has to be a triple-A, $200m game, or your typical 8-bit-looking indie title that looks like the last 70 indie games that came out in the last month.
This game and stubbs the zombie pretty much made the original xbox a must have for me, I hope one day we can see a remake of that glorious game as well.
I love Gman's reviews but I think it's pretty hilarious that he believes the game is making fun of commies instead of satirizing the anti-commie fearmongering of the McCarthy era and onwards
Thanks once again for this review and your effort put into all your videos. Really appreciate it! I am enjoying your channel so much. Best regards from Germany 😁✌️
Really happy to hear that the devs were able to put their foot down with this one. Black Forest Games is just a small German studio, which has a lot of rough years behind them. (...They made the recent Bubsy game.) I hope DAH does well and they get a good financial boost.
I just got this game and I know little late to the party but when I was playing this game it was FRICKEN fun and had a good time, even got my brother to play. And also I can say "I blew the White House.....Independence Day style!" And just so y'all know I never knew that this was a remake until yesterday.
Now if only someone would combine it with Bureau take on X-Com and somehow make such a hybrid a good game despite inclusion of the latter... Would be fun to be able to play both sides versus.
I just have 1 nitpick, was it really too much to ask to have the Mothership interior be animated again? Also I dont think Pox said any of his lines from the console days.
2005 was amazing! The Xbox 360 launch, the swarm of Half-Life 2 mods, Counter-Strike: Source at its peak, many amazing games on the Xbox/Gamecube/PS2 & PC...
I hope they remake the second one. I love these games. Big nostalgia vibes everytime I play them! I really enjoyed this remake, so I think they could do the sequel just as well as they did this remake!
while planning on reviewing this game on youtube, i've just realised why certain critics get an early copy. it's the critics that will give it a good review, so the first reviews anybody sees are positive.
The best bit in this game is when you take the identity of the war general and convince all the other generals to send their army to the bottom of the ocean to own the commies.
i’m glad it’s a remake and not a remaster as it does add more quality such as graphic and audio since it’s easier to work with it if you remake it instead of updating the graphics. Alot of the gameplay changes are widely acceptable in their form. Weapons usage variety is forced in this which is fine since it’s done pretty naturally i.e. your alien weapons don’t get ammo from human weapons like most modern shooters forcing you to swap to other weapons until you can transmogrify something into ammo for you. The ship was also improved since in the original game the angle the death ray would work at was a bitch to get right since hit boxes were smaller in 05. improvements to audio quality is just so we can hear Zim i mean Pox better seeing as he was hard to hear at times in the original.
Second time 3 minutes reviews and Gman line up with the exact same title at the same time to give either a short look into it or a full fledged review and I don't know if this is coincidence or not, but I love it. (Possibly just the embargo but love the title selection of both channels)
I renovated apartments in New Orleans my parents invested in...every day during the summer...without a/c...for this game. Then Katrina happened the same or next year...like this comment so my mother’s slave driving doesn’t go to waste?
king, not sure how to put this to you, but destroy all humans doesn't make fun of communism. it makes fun of mccarthyism and the associated red scare. the second game is the one that actually makes fun of communism
Especially considering how green/grey alien invasion films and literature from the 50s, like Invasion of the Body Snatchers, is often considered as based in communist paranoia
Was it censored, though? I've heard they cut some dialogue (during the abduction of Miss Rockwell, for example, in gameplay videos Crypto doesn't say this line ruclips.net/video/F7hS-Cuzvdo/видео.html and skips right to the next). I wonder how many cuts are there.
That's the only line they removed, which I think was done to not make Crypto look like a creep, even though in the sequel he spends most of the runtime hitting on a female ex-KGB agent.
To be honest, the 'humor' in the game is rather lame, tired and dry as well as the characters. Not genuinely funny or authentic - like my ex-girlfriend's tw*t. I prefer that video games not to be lame comedies :)
This is a remake done right, they rebuilt the game from the ground up while staying true to the original and adding in cut content from the original version. This should not be confused with a remaster where they just clean up and port over a game that doers injustice to this kind of work.
Hopefully this sells well and we can get a remake of the second one. I want to fight godzilla with a flying saucer again on Ureal 5 with caos physics on PS5.
Finally - a reviewer that skipped the soy latte and actually thought it was funny. Every other reviewer Ive read or watched so far has been offended by something technically made 15 years ago
Sad state of affairs that 15 years ago humanity more readily accepted cartoony satire than the soy-latte drinkers of today. Makes me fear for how the kids of said demographic turn out(of the handful that actually manage to procreate).

Now I only need Stubbs the Zombie remake to complete my nostalgia trip.
Fun fact: you remember "Where the Hell is Matt?", the videos by Matt Harding of him dancing all over the world, that went super viral? He used to work at Pandemic Studios, the original devs, and _he pitched this game, as a joke._
Apparently it all went down after Microsoft shot down a more family-friendly pitch he'd worked really hard on, and he sarcastically suggested they should make a game where you play as an alien invader who wants to kill humanity, joking that they could call it "Destroy All Humans!" His co-workers thought it sounded hilarious, and eventually they began _actually planning it._
And no, despite common rumors, he _did not_ leave the company in disgust due to this, he just didn't feel like working on it and wanted to pursue an independent career; though the devs do credit him as the one who suggested the game should take a comedic, satirical tone parodying schlocky sci-fi horror.
Wow, what an incredible story, but honestly, they could've at least compensated him with cash for his ideas.
Does anyone else think Crypto sounded like jack Nicholson a lil bit
I think that was the point oddly enough lol
@@christopherstathis4419 not obvious because i cant recall any role where Jack played an alien but okay dude
@@christopherstathis4419 ok idc

Btw the clips weren't mocking communism. They were mocking the McCarthy- era fear mongering against communism.
THANK-you
McCarthy was right.
Shut up libtard
I was gonna say the same thing. Dude went on a rant about people not being able to take a joke and he didn't even understand the jokes.
@@dafritter OK "Castro"
Now we just need a remaster for Stubbs the Zombie.
The Gaming Beehive that and it’s owned by Disney. Disney will never do anything with it.
@@patrickrobinsob1464 I didn't know the Disney part. That's sad.
I've played it last year. Bought it from Ebay for £20. Mostly worth spending the money.
@@yinbrown6212 yeah we had some good games don't worry you youngins have gems too the start of that is cyberpunk
Fun fact: The voice actor for Zim was also in a 90's stranger danger type of movie called and he played and voiced the character "Corny"
"Corny Holey" as he was called by the local alien child groomer perv.
octa-anal.
2:58 “The Room” reference or “Rebel without a cause” reference? 🤔
-REDACTED FOR IDIOT-
@@vahlok1426 Actually, The Room came out in 2003, while DAH came out in 2005.
Had fun with the Spongebob remake, will likely enjoy this one too it seems, super cool of them to also release on gog.
Shit, I felt old when "Medieval" got an HD remake!!!! In '05 I was graduating High School, listening to Cradle of Filth While Saw II played in the background.
Well fuck you very much then. Graduated in 99... 😒

It’ll never happen. Trust me I want one too, but Disney owns it now.
@@patrickrobinsob1464 Fuck
Richard Horvitz just has one of those voices that you recognize in a single syllable
I’m pretty sure it’s making fun of McCarthyism, not communism, unless Gmanlives was being ironic? Idk
I hate commenting in the public sphere to largely say the same thing, but the anti communist humor in DAH 1 was absolutely based on the red scare and perceived domino effect rather than actual communism, which was more a running joke in the sequel.
I really hope this means the second game gets remastered as well. It was such a good game.
Yeah that and the 3rd game Path of the Furon which I think would have so much potential for a remake another game i want to see THQNORDIC to bring back as a modern remake it is Evil Dead: A Fistful of Boomstick
@@MeatPie95 hopefully if they do remake the 2nd and 3rd game for destroy all humans which will lead to a brand new Destroy all humans game from the ground up with way more weapons new and old from all games for the saucer and guns . I feel the making of the remakes will distract us while they go behind the scenes with another dev team (maybe the ones that made this remake ) to make the new game so when these beautiful remakes come out, then the new one comes out with a trailer so it would feel like it's only been a year since the first game came out . Since I'm guessing it doesn't take as long to do remakes then new games . So I think this plan could work .
@@thehunter7422 yeah just like how Activision brought back the Crash Bandicoot Trilogy and now there is a brand new Crash Bandicoot game coming and there's actually a new Evil Dead game coming out too but all we just know for now is just that there is a new game we don't know who the developers are and the publisher but im hoping its THQNORDIC remaking one of there 3 Evil Dead games that they published back in the day im hoping it is a remake of A Fistful of Boomstick and maybe if that remake becomes successful than we will probably get a sequel or just a brand new Evil Dead game
@@thehunter7422 and to me this is also what remakes should be like remake games that were not so popular and even games that were so bad but make them so much better than they ever were before like for an example Evil Dead: Hail to the King that game was terrible i liked it but I do understand peoples criticism with the game but i personally liked it but for a modern remake it can be really awesome just make the overall gameplay and combat 10x better
@@MeatPie95 remakes will make games better . I've been hoping for a crash bash remake for a long time especially when Beenox made Crash team racing remake . That was amazing . That remake is like 10 times bigger than the original game. They added new and old maps and racers and the story looked bigger with the extra animations and with huge kart and skin customization options . I'm hoping they give crash bash the same treatment too. People are saying that game didn't receive well ( it is true ) but people don't understand the biggest thing right now is the multiplayer market . Which they could give crash bash online multiplayer and other unlockables like more charecters and new minigame designs . Online multiplayer would be so fun for that remake I would be playing space bash all day lol.
Idk how to tell you this dude but they're not making fun of commies, they're mocking the American political paranoia and xenophobia of the 1950s. Same as Fallout. If you want making fun of commies, play 2
@Sigmund Bosch its cartoony because its satire of McCarthyism. the joke is that everyone is obsessed with commies while the real enemies are aliens from outer space lmao. it is a very obvious satire of the red scare, not a jab at communism.
@Sigmund Bosch Who gave Joe McCarthy a youtube account
As a random note, can we appreciate the historical accuracy in the US military equipment in game? We see M24 Chaffees, we see those old GMC cargo trucks, and the uniforms are mostly historically accurate (although they’re late WW2 European theater uniforms and not Korean era uniforms)

I remember wearing out my analog stick trying to get max stars on all of the races. The capital city race was a fucking nightmare

That's some rich whole fat irony right there.
That is quite the truth. I think he was looking at the second game when he was saying that everytime.

I offer you the title of honorary American. Huzzuh brother, let the lords truth and freedom ring
If only we could get a Simpsons Hit & Run remake.
I remember playing this game on XBOX, so of course I’m nostalgic for it.
2005 definitely listening to Foo Fighters and playing another game made by Pandemic. It was called Mercenaries Playground of Destruction my most played PS2. Not lying at all that was my shit back then along with RE4 and the good Star Wars Battlefronts. Made by oddly enough...Pandemic.
"I voted for you twice in the last election"
They knew even back then eh?
Loved the shit out of this game back in the day, on Xbox. The team who remade this did an amazing job.
6th generation was an awesome time to be a gamer. It was back when developers took wild or silly ideas and ran with it. There were so many gems like this game. Nowadays, everything has to be a triple-A, $200m game, or your typical 8-bit-looking indie title that looks like the last 70 indie games that came out in the last month.
i like how everyone sees it as a comment on communism when its also an ironic take on america and capitalism in general lol
You're pretty on-point. It's just like the people who play Fallout 3 and don't realize that Liberty Prime is a satire of anti-commie paranoia.

If Jack Nicholson were to voice act. Crypto is for HIM 😂😂
This game and stubbs the zombie pretty much made the original xbox a must have for me, I hope one day we can see a remake of that glorious game as well.
I love Gman's reviews but I think it's pretty hilarious that he believes the game is making fun of commies instead of satirizing the anti-commie fearmongering of the McCarthy era and onwards
McCarthy didn't go far enough
Yeah, that part kind of flew over his head
GGMAN was bumpin 50 Cents "Many Men" on blast in 2005, Knowing this makes me life feel more complete somehow
Whelp, time for Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction to get a remake!
I just got this game and I know little late to the party but when I was playing this game it was FRICKEN fun and had a good time, even got my brother to play. And also I can say "I blew the White House.....Independence Day style!"
And just so y'all know I never knew that this was a remake until yesterday.
Ah 2005, good times.

I hope they remake the second one. I love these games. Big nostalgia vibes everytime I play them! I really enjoyed this remake, so I think they could do the sequel just as well as they did this remake!
while planning on reviewing this game on youtube, i've just realised why certain critics get an early copy. it's the critics that will give it a good review, so the first reviews anybody sees are positive.
how do you play this an take away that the communist jokes are about communism, and not about american fear of communism during the red scare
I think it gives you a perfect understanding of the reviewers capacity to understand his material.
Richard Horvitz has also done VA work for Helluva Boss and for anyone who recalls it Skylanders.
"i´ve voted for you twice in the last election!"
That´s really funny. :D
You know what we need? "Stubbs the Zombie" remake.
That game was also great.
Those examples are not making fun of communism, they're making fun of McCarthyism 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
What can you expect from an ex-GamerGater...
Second time 3 minutes reviews and Gman line up with the exact same title at the same time to give either a short look into it or a full fledged review and I don't know if this is coincidence or not, but I love it. (Possibly just the embargo but love the title selection of both channels)

Let's not forget that Crypto likes Rammstein! That trailer was FIRE!
king, not sure how to put this to you, but destroy all humans doesn't make fun of communism. it makes fun of mccarthyism and the associated red scare. the second game is the one that actually makes fun of communism
Especially considering how green/grey alien invasion films and literature from the 50s, like Invasion of the Body Snatchers, is often considered as based in communist paranoia
As of now, we're getting a remake of DAH 2 and a possible NEW 3rd installment down the line. What a good time to stop and smell the sweet nostalgia!
@@GamerGuysReviews well, alright, that's a relief (and yeah, I wonder how they'll go about the sequel which is all about Crypto's junk).
Hey GmanLives - Can you review Sunset Overdrive? I think it's really underrated and think you could do a good review of it?
The game is making fun of the cold war "reds under the bed" mentality not "making fun of commies".
Dan T and
To be honest, the 'humor' in the game is rather lame, tired and dry as well as the characters. Not genuinely funny or authentic - like my ex-girlfriend's tw*t. I prefer that video games not to be lame comedies :)
And? Who cares, f*** commies.
This is a remake done right, they rebuilt the game from the ground up while staying true to the original and adding in cut content from the original version. This should not be confused with a remaster where they just clean up and port over a game that doers injustice to this kind of work.
Invader Zim is genius.
Anyone still thinking game journalist like games are very naive.
Sad state of affairs that 15 years ago humanity more readily accepted cartoony satire than the soy-latte drinkers of today.
