  • Alyssa Ayres, adjunct senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations, says India is a "very independent" country, and the traditional alliance relationship the U.S. has with other countries "creates an almost unexpectable level of deference on the part of the other country."

India is aware of Henry Kissinger's famous statement, that being an enemy of the US is dangerous but being an ally of the US is fatal. India is well aware of the many US vassals out there. Example, France and Germany were wary regarding NATO expansion to Russia's border, but vassals cannot affect decisions.

My respect goes out to the United States for supporting democracy and diverse causes internationally. In my opinion, the United States and India are good allies and will remain so in the future.
However, India can't rely on precarious US support that is at the discretion of its Congress/Senate. What Washington foreign policy person thinks it's fair to expect India to bow down to the US.
Look at what’s happening with Ukraine, military aid is at the mercy of house/senate votes.
Pakistan and China surround India with strong armies. I don't see how US expects India to make enemies with Russia or anyone else in Asia. US shouldn't ask India to get expensive oil by avoiding cheaper oil from Russia while American politicians are flip-flopping on Ukraine aid.
Yes, the US donated money/weapons to Ukraine, but that doesn't mean India should risk its oil security and ignore the needs of millions of its citizens.

Unless America has a multi-party democracy, it doesn't count as a democracy and hence let's invade/ regime change/ install our puppet etc.? You people are the ones that are expansionists. Its the similar relationship that US has with Israel. Even though the US doesn't want to help Israel, its polity is taken care of by the jews and its lobby in the US. Similar, our relationship is taken care by Hinjews (Hindus and Jews), the Hindu Jewish lobby working for the greater good of both countries and world at large. We have a multilayered relationship with Israel as a brother as we are religiously connected and that's the reason Israel helped us even when they did not have diplomatic ties with India till 1992. One must look through many videos of Jewish Hindu Interfaith dialogue to know the similarities.

The "Alliance" term as a whole is losing its ground. More & more countries are now diverting from alliance to mutual relationships even in International market. The Alliance became trending post World war Era specially during Cold war. Now many countries find themsleves indulging in matters that are harmful for their national interest but they are forced to do that cuz of their commitment to one Alliance. We are moving towards a World that wont be dominated by own power bit several & in that case there will be multiple alliance like groups & u will see one Country in several groups based on their national interest. Theres a trend of " Nation comes first " in all Democracies now days & that also reflects in Geopolitics.
