🤣You just made us ALL want to sell our boats. Thanks!!!
Yup! 😂
😂
Weekends at the Islamorada Sandbar, Fishing and vacationing in the Florida Keys🌴with the family……absolutely worth it..
What a bundle of joy you are! Can't avoid the cost of a boat and registration unless you inherit one and then you still have cost of registration. In MN, registration last 3 years. The trailer is annual but about $30. Cushions and fabrics should last the life of the boat unless you let it sit unprotected in the sun. Up here, boats that sit out are typically shrink wrapped. Or they're stored in someone's pole barn. Tires can last 5-10 years if you cover them. Pyrotechnics are good for 3 years. Most clothing, swimsuits, hats, sunglasses people already have. Can't avoid the cost of fuel. Most people can service their boats after watching a few RUclips videos. Oil, gear lube cost me about $110 a season and in Duluth MN, it's hard to put 50 hours on a boat in a season. It can be cold through June and it rains some and some of us have to work a few weekends. So cost depends somewhat on where you live and boat. Things like water toys, skis and wakeboards last many years. In South FL where you can boat every day, costs could be higher. But aside from the boat purchase price, insurance fees, most costs are relatively minimal unless you screw up and that is what insurance is for. Compare that to a set of golf clubs, typically $500-1000 dollars or more. Greens fees at $100 a pop or a club membership at $10,000 a year, the cost of boat ownership is relatively low. My last boat lasted 25 years. I paid $44k for it and it would have taken 4 years of gold club membership to pay for the boat. Life is better on a boat. If I sweat golfing I have to change my shirt. If I sweat on the boat I jump in the lake. I had to give something up. I gave up golf!
I've watched so many of your videos but found this one a little depressing. Thanks! 🤣
Maintenance is key. He has many great videos that will help you DIY. Learn to pilot your boat economically and safely. Rinse the salt after each use.
As a boatowner, I agree with everything you just said. and sometimes I think it’s best to have a friend that was a boat.
I hope my significant other never finds this video. I’ll be in more trouble that I can handle LOL
you missed the expense of keeping your wife happy so you have time to use this boat.
No wife, happy life...
Still sounds better than marriage 😆
Think owning a boat is expensive try getting a divorce. Owning a boat is CHEAP.
Oh boy you are just a bundle of helpfulness. Love the Dave Ramsey reference. 😂😂 I was breaking in a new motor for someone. They put 2.5 hours on it and I was doing the rest. Found a piece of what looked 10 lb mono tangled around the prop. I called the owner and asked to remove the prop. Come to find out newer Mercurys are pretty safe from line eating the seals out as its pretty recessed and protected. Older motors not so much.
You missed regular haulouts/boatyard fees for bottom painting. hopefully no osmosis/blisters which shoots up yard fees significantly
i enjoy your videos. i own sevveral boats all in los angeles harbor area and i've found some helpful info watching your vids. Keep up the great work you are very appreciated. Cheers.
During the 70's I had a 27' flybridge Ulrichson. It was fully equipped for fishing. I spent a ton O cash working on the engine and general maintenance. I enjoyed every minute of that boating time.
little known fact, AAA RV coverage will cover car tows and rv, boat, travel trailer tows etc.
I notice that your boat rebuilds that you don't install an engine oil reservoir. My Evinrude G1 requires this. Is an oil reservoir engine specific, and you've never needed it?
Wow pretty dang good. I've owned boats for years and you hit all of them!
I was thinking about selling my boat. You convinced me I was right👍. Just kidding it definitely depends on the type of boat you buy as well. That center console on the thumbnail is a hell of a lot cheaper in upkeep than a cabin cruiser or walk around. An out board is definitely easier to work with and replace than an inboard and the less luxury the less upkeep. No cabin no cabin leaks and fighting mold and every other problem a cabin has. It's definitely the little things like he said. All the chemicals for cleaning and waxing all the ropes anchors lights and materials for repairs then the equipment like fish finder and life jackets saftey gear and first aid. The list goes on. Then like he said there is the trailer .
Doing your own basic/trailer maintenance and avoiding stuff-ups saves money.
My latest (3rd) boat came with laminated checklists because he had no experience. Before leaving home, before launching, after trailering and back home.
It covered more than I had in my head so I kept it in the glovebox of the Ute (Aussie truck).
BTW, I hope my thanks went through, I had to make up a zip code, I guess for sales tax.
😆
You've described pretty much everything that's happened to me since my first boat in 1978 - except water in the fuel tank, and fishing line around the prop shaft...I check that after EVERY trip. It's possible to get line caught around the shaft trolling and getting someone else's line...
Thanks for sparing us the long list of ... electronics 😒
“Jeff Gorden’s” the boat in front of you😂😂😂😂😂😂
If you don’t have insurance and have an incident you’re screwed…just get it
I need to rewrite my 2002 , 90 Yamaha outboard motor. Just the positive and negative wires from the motor to battery. What gauge wire do you recommend? I can’t see a size on the wires installed now. Thank you. Love your vids!!!
Search for a DC Wire Size Calculator. Not sure of the amperage output but I'd allow for around 50amp and 10ft (5 each way).
You can also strip the existing wires and use callipers to measure diameter, but I'd go about 6AWG.
From a financial perspective, to own a very modest boat, you need to have your own house, have no dept at all, and have a monthly income of $ 10000 either from work , or from owning a business or properties that yield you with this amount every month. If you have this income, with no dept at all, then all you have to search for is a Toyota Corolla kind of a boat for 5-6 persons, i.e. you do never want to involve in big ones because then you will be in a rich people's zone with a monthly income in excess of $ 100000 +. I know that many people have a modest boats and they have the knowledge and expertise do all mechanical, electrical and body needs for such a small boats which they bought 2nd hand in good condition for cheap bargain, not only that, but such people know how to soft drive and treat their boat so nicely (only use it in very nice quiet weather) so that not only it last, but they save tremendously on maintenance which they do as well as parts ...etc. costs. Enjoy your time and take care.
I am so glad I have a boat club membership. Fixed cost except for fuel.
Hey Google. How do I sell my boat?
Long story short, it’s expensive to be stupid and a bad driver 😂
No one drives my boat unless we’re in the middle of the ocean
All of this is correct 😂😂😂 I just bought my first boat , I had to buy a cover and I have to buy life vest all this stuff , while paying monthly for it because I financed the boat . Well Im glad i financed it for 15 years cause the payments are low 😅😅
I got a warning after an inspection because my 2x12 year old and 5x5 year old inflatable lifejackets hadn't been professionally serviced.
They all came back perfect but still cost me about 200USD
So depressed I listed the boat for sale
Boys, we found the local housewives club president. Need your joy of boating/fishing deflated? Listen to this 12-minute rant containing all the possible negatives of boating, and none of the positives. Responsibility deserves merit, but so too does living a happy life...sometimes there are sacrifices, decide which ones are important to you.
You didn't mention having to buy a tow vehicle to pull the boat if you drive a small car or sports car. And now that you're driving a large SUV or truck full time you're spending more money on fueling that gas guzzling daily driver.
Trailer costs. Covers fall apart.
HA HA HA 😂 🤣 😅TALK ABOUT GOOD NEWS CHARLIE !!!...A LOT TO THINK ABOUT 🤔..BUT DANG BROTHER I JUST LOVE THEM ANY WAY 🎉🎉❤
Hey, if you don't ever take your boat out, you can save a ton of money.
But unused boats deteriorate faster than used ones where you keep on top of the "little" things.
Well.....that was exhausting!
kinda why grunts and blue runners are $150 a pound fish
Wow, you certainly covered just about everything! You may have covered launch fees and I may have missed it.
That said, seems like boating may not be worth all this aggravation. Speaking of which how can you put a price on the launch lunacy? Anyway, enjoy the boating experience.
My buddy's boat doesn't cost me any of that!
Bwahahahahaha, sit around a boat ramp for a day and watch the repair dollars add up, like that guy that leaves his motors running LONG after the boat is on the trailer and out of the water.... oof
You should be a sales guy
Storage units for a boat
I had to buy a truck to pull my boat.
Ah people use trucks to pull boat trailers.
@raviarjuna9839 lol
Don't let my wife see this vid please!!! Oh, did you mention launch fees and permits just to get the boat in the water.
Damn homie you're making people to not want to buy a boat lol
Bust out another thousand
I'll be selling a 21' mako after this video, anyone interested?
Now I am depressed
It's.... Debbie Downer ! 😟
You wouldn't sell it to some poor, naive guy, would you?
You’re a buzz kill
Dam hearing you say all thise things makes the sport sound like chit! But yes there is more truth to it than not. If you really cannot afford it, dont know much about it, aren't handy then you would wish you hadn't done it. I have seen my fare share of broken dreams at the marina. Not long ago i purchased a 23 year old boat with merc two strokes. I knew i would have to replace the engines soon. I saved up hard core for the next 4 years and jump on a zero percent cc offer and nearly $50k later i had new twin zukes on the boat. Between the cost of the boat, add ons and engines im about $80k in the hole but it isnt always that bad. If you have patience and have the ability to save some money you can find some really good deals, the key word is patience! As far as the add ons go, best deals are just before spring, fall, the boat shows, Amazon and ebay. But yeah, only get into a boat if you can afford it. Yeah come to think of it, chit is expensive! Thanks for the video.
Should've made this video before I bought a boat 🥲
