There are two versions, this is one of them, in the Eastern Province. Aramco was the only TV broadcaster at the time. There was another version for Riyadh (Central) :)
@@akularia yeah that one, along with some footage of missile interceptions. I was able to confirm the date of certain portions of the footage by matching the timestamp with a U.S. govt report on Iraq’s scud attacks
Definitely sounds like the tone is the first few seconds of Mannheim Steamroller's "Escape from the Atmosphere" (Fresh Aire V) - You can hear the piano as the audio fades between 0:02 and 0:03.
@@whatsomeonesaidwastaken9216 Glad I'm not the only nutter who recognizes it! Man, Mannheim Steamroller's music has gotten into some interesting (if not odd) places - for this alert ("Escape from the Atmosphere," Fresh Aire V), as background music for the Orgon Public Broadcasting 1970s-era ident ("Toccata," Fresh Aire III (albeit slowed down in pitch and speed)), to name two.
@@DanknDerpyGamer And apparently this Saudi Arabian TV channel liked it so much that they used it In an emergency broadcast during the Gulf War when Iraq fired SCUD missiles.
how? Like does Saudi not get emergency alerts often when there's something serious currently happening? Or is a missile alert rare? (NOT SURE I SPELLED THAT RIGHT)
Iraq actually wanted to fire Scuds at Israel but the Saudis intercepted them and the Soviet-made missiles were thus destroyed. This EAS alert was played on all channels in the area where the missiles were spotted and blown up
Even in Saudi Arabia, you get a continuity announcement from a bloke with a Yorkshire accent.
That’s because this was an English language channel in Saudi Arabia.

I wonder if any footage of that exists now
I found some off-television footage of the Riyadh version, very creepy
