  • Cork Production Process | Harvesting MILLIONS of Trees to Produce TONS of Cork
Men are trying to use axes to peel the bark from a large tree
Why peel off the bark so cleanly? Are these people destroying natural resources?
No! These peeled trees are oak trees
They are grown in large Portuguese forests
But not to get fruit or wood, the main purpose is to get... the bark of the tree.
These oak trees are also extremely important in the country's ecosystem and economy
Therefore, harvesting oak bark is protected and allowed by Portuguese law
The first step is harvesting oak bark using manual tools and human labor
Workers will harvest in the summer by using axes to carefully peel off the bark around the tree's roots.
These farmers would work together to harvest oak bark because because the bark is strong, it is very difficult to do this alone
The process of peeling tree bark requires meticulousness and care so as not to kill the tree.
Next, the farmers will stack these oak bark layers neatly on the cart
And the car began to take off wheels to be transported to the factory area
The bark pieces will be transported to the processing site.
And at this point, you will surely wonder what these oak barks are filtered for.
First, it is the process of producing high-end wine corks that we are using at parties
At the factory, oak bark that has been exposed to the cement floor for 6 months will begin to be processed
They are boiled for at least 1 hour to help kill bacteria and make the bark softer and more porous.
After these oak barks have softened, they will be put through the next processing stage
Next, a stamping machine will create cylindrical corks from oak bark.
These corks will be distributed to more than 100 different countries.
In the cork production process, there is not any waste in the entire process.

From the wisdom of God to the intelligence that man discovers the importance of something. And the tree that does not die even if the skin while they are standing alive is taken away. What a great thing, the Almighty must be praised.

While cork production is a vital industry, we must ensure sustainable harvesting practices to protect our forests and biodiversity for future generations

Oak utilization is an important step to reduce pressure on natural forests. Hopefully other manufacturing industries will learn from this too!

Was interesting, but one thing i felt was missing wass to see how or if the bark farmers covered up the tree after peeling the bark. it seem a bit extreme to leave it completely open. Though if it workss it works

I don't think it is talked about enough that trees can and are farmed the same way corn and soybeans are. It just takes a few more years to harvest.
