Well, you continue to have the best graphics of YT pickleballers. I liked that string of "pattern recognition" examples. I think you should expand that and do a full video on like the top 10 or 20 patterns in pickleball.

@@vipuljain2833 I'm actually building an online pickleball school. I think i'll include a
      "Pattern recognition database."

    Wow! Fantastic video!!!
When in a match that really matters, I just keep telling myself, “Play my game, play my game!” I don’t let myself get sucked into the hard banging aggressive game! Like Ben Johns, I work my way to the kitchen, move my opponents around, try to pull them out of position causing them to overreach and force an error for an easy put-away.
Especially love attacking the left side players backhand.

Great video, but I think you missed the most important tip of all: (I played tournament Chess for decades)
Don't attack from a weak position! That's the main problem with "Bangers". Sure, hitting a power shot is great when you have an opening to hit to or when your opponents are off balance or out of position, but hitting a drive when your opponents are waiting for it at the Kitchen line is a bad idea (assuming your opponents are reasonably good players.) Wait until your position is better than your opponents' in some exploitable way before going for the kill.

Shared this with a bunch of friends with the caption "want to know what's in my head about pickleball?" [cue 'Psycho music' in the background 🙂] You've summarized a well organized way, the things that I try to share... thank you!!! now I can just send this video! You've probably thought of this one already (or a version of it in strategies) but just in case try it and see what your personal results give you: note:I calculated & tested this years ago as a high lever racquetball player & coach and this only works with traditional "score while serving" games [I haven't though through "rally scoring" yet]. So in racquetball games to 15 points, by playing ~15-20% more conservative on defense [entire goal is to get back to serving] and just trying to NOT give up a point, and then play as aggressive as you want when serving, saved ~4 points a game! I've tried it in pickleball games to 11 and it seems to give you easier wins by ~ 2 - 3 points per game, which is huge! [this seems obvious, but both teammates have to have this same strategy or it won't work]. I look forward to more of your videos

Love the chess analogy. In terms of recognizing patterns, how long or how much do you need to play to start to see these? Playing 90 min once a week vs playing 5 times a week for 30 min. etc.. I think it would be helpful to understand the milestones of getting better both in play time, practice time and watching videos like yours.

    • @thatpickleballguy
      @thatpickleballguy  2 месяца назад +1

Great question. Short answer, I don't know.
Longer answer. I think 5 times at 30 minute vs. 90 minutes once a week.
I'm still exploring this question because i'm almost three years in, and just started thinking about patterns about 5 months ago.
However, I'm teaching my 4.0 - 4.5 friends who I play with about them, and they're picking them up fine!
I just didn't have anyone teaching me back then.
So to make a long answer longer, I don't know the time it takes.
But the process I use is.
      1. discover a pattern naturally through rec play.
      2. See if I can find it in happening in other pro matches on youtube
      3. When I find it, watch it 20x and notice everything about that pattern.
      4. See if I can improve it the next time I play in rec and use that recognition ability to my advantage.

I often teach, "the kitchen is where the strategy is".
It's very much like a chess match or football, where you have sides going between offense and defense, and waiting for your opponent to make a mistake....😊

Jazzin' the Court: A Pickleball Poem
In the world of sports, where games collide,
There's a place where strategy takes a ride.
    Kyle Koszuta, with wisdom untold,
Guides us through the pickleball fold.
Positional Awareness, the first to know,
    Court control, a strategic flow.
Like chess, we dance with every shot,
In the game of pickle, we call the spot.
    The Opening, a grand display,
Deep serves and wide, in a calculated way.
Keep 'em back, create that space,
Set the stage for a winning chase.
    Pattern Recognition, a player's delight,
Reading the game, like day and night.
From dinks to drives, each move a clue,
In the rhythm of play, we find our true.
End Game Expertise, a master's art,
Plotting victory, from the very start.
    Tactics honed, with every drill,
In the final moments, we seize our fill.
    Know Yourself, the final key,
In the game of pickle, we set ourselves free.
Are you aggressive like Anna Leigh Waters,
Or patient and poised, like Ben Johns, the supporters?
Magnus Carlsen, a chess grandmaster's name,
In pattern recognition, he found his fame.
In pickleball, the same holds true,
Know thyself, and victory will ensue.
So here's to the game, where strategy reigns,
    Where Kyle Koszuta's wisdom sustains.
In the jazz of the court, we find our groove,
In pickleball and chess, we truly prove.
With paddle in hand, and strategy in mind,
We step to the court, leaving doubts behind.
For in each move, we hear the jazz,
A symphony of strategy, in every pass.
From Positional Awareness to End Game Expertise,
We navigate the court with finesse and ease.
Like a chessboard come to life, we make our play,
In the world of pickleball, where champions sway.
So let's embrace the rhythm, let's dance the beat,
With every shot, with every fleet feet.
For in the game of pickle, as in jazz's sway,
It's the strategic brilliance that wins the day.
