This ending confused me but the Zack and Cloud fight was pretty cool. Had to equip Cloud with the Buster Sword for this one!
So, there is like, 3 Sephiroths and 3 Aerith's so far. Can we get a second Zack?
He branched out into multiple Zacks, I imagine that might not be ignored.
There was a bunch of Zacks and we even saw a few of em get killed

I was getting some 'Empire Strikes Back' vibes from watching this.
2nd entries in the trilogy tend to follow that pattern. This is very much Empire Strikes Back, with Sephiroth and Jenova advancing their plan, Aerith being dead, and Cloud being more unstable than ever, just as the Empire had the Rebels on the back foot, Han was frozen in carbonite, and Luke had lost an arm and learned the truth of his parentage

I really like this take on the original multi-party Bizarro Sephiroth fight,
I straight up screamed in hype when I saw Bizarro Sephiroth. I never in my life thought they were actually going to remember that guy! They usually just tend to use Sephiroth, or his Safer/final boss form.

I actually think the writers care A LOT about the original game and it shows in Remake and Rebirth. But instead of wanting to tell the same story twice with minor changes they decided to change the themes and context of certain plot threads so that those who have already played the original get to experience a new story. I think that the writing in the new games is generally better than in the original. Aerith's death in Rebirth doesn't have the same brutal realism and spontaneous shock and sadness as the scene had in the original, but that's because Rebirth isn't going for it in the first place.
Aerith's death in Rebirth is more about accepting that her fate in the original can't be changed and giving a final goodbye. I personally think this could've had a stronger effect if Aerith hadn't been so distant during Rebirth. I think the writers wanted Tifa to be the character who's most concerned about Cloud in Rebirth and who opens up about her emotions and memories to Cloud. Aerith's character or relationships are not really developed during Rebirth especially when compared to Remake and during her emotional scenes (like talking to Zack's parents, or the scene in Nibelheim where she tells Could that she's jealous of him, or her Golden Saucer musical number, or the alternative timeline scene in the church where she talks about different kinds of "liking" ) she stays stoic and cryptic with an underlying gloominess. But then again her underlying depression made her interesting in a new way she wasn't in the original.

OMFG, I'm confused.
There is a branch between life and death, Cloud can cross between it because hes slowly dying. But Aerith will end up saving him as Cloud is connected to the life stream. The black whispers are trying to turn all timelines into one where Sephiroth wins, Zach and Aerith and Biggs are trying to stop it, their dead so the afterlife is one of the branches that Sephiroth is trying to prune. It's very well done its just WAY beyond what the original game tried to convey. Aerith has to die so the planet can live, Holy is the only thing that can stop meteor which has already been summoned by Sephiroth to destroy Gaia.

Aerith died. It was a fake out that she survived. Cloud is unable to accept her death and the fact he couldn't save her. It does seem he's able to communicate with her spirit, since Red could sense her and she mentions stopping the meteor.

@@Preludedraw In the og ff7 they told us that cloud because of hijo experimentation with cloud using mako had a serious drawback from reducing his lifespan he was going to die young (in the game he is like 21, humans in ff7 can be 100 or more and cloud had like shorter life span but we cant know how much and he has decades ahead yet). In the remake the only change it's that cloud is some undead/limbo/slow dying dude now

Just accept it as unconfirmed. No one confirmed what happened.
She's dead why do people think she's alive. Maybe there's a timeline where she does live but at the very end why would they fly away in the bronco and leave her in the middle of nowhere if she was alive?
The whispers are the spirit. The black ones are corrupted and the white ones are not. Aerith is dead like in the OG FF7, but instead of finishing the game in that way, they added a gigantic fight where Aerith spirit was fighting alongside Cloud in a dimension where two worlds collide.
Shes dead but alive in the afterlife, She will come back alive with some steam mod when someone makes it after it comes to PC. xD

Reminds me kf another game where they fight the boss across time simultaneously because they'll end up regenerating each part otherwise ~
And to think the one helping them is also part of the enemy boss that was created to keep things safe but has to be broken to escape~ which results in the said helper to most likely pass on as well ~

Don't change the timeline. Leave it be. I was 13 when I got a PlayStation and FF7 I'm 40 now. Pleàsse stop
