Never played the first game. Have played some Diablo in the past. This game is challenging, not hard. Stop and think for a second, look at your gear and currency if you get a little stuck. You can probably afford a little upgrade. Avoid upgrading everything at once or you’ll hit big spots where everything might feel underleveled. Go back and farm a lower leveled map, it’ll be fine.
Im on my third character. Just testing stuff out im not even done with the campaign. Just build damage. Like just pure damage if you cqn. ranger? Projectile damage. Shit like that. It makes it way easier. Then for armor just focus on strictly health and resistance perks. At least for the campaign. Its making things way easier.
I am in the middle of act 3 and I think the difficulty is fine. Maybe they should give us more currency for boss kills so the game feels more rewarding. I also think many bosses are way too easy. I killed act 2 final boss in my 5th attempt and the first couple of optional act 3 bosses without dying once. I am a super casual diablo player who didn't manage to beat elden ring btw.
I am playing a lightning monk, that is super strong and not affected by any of the nerfs. I also have only 2 skills on my hotbar which felt weird in the beginning, but with the slow tactical gameplay and the dodge roll it feels very good. I think it's super casual/beginner friendly. You also don't need a guide. Just try out a few skills and then there are some big obvious choices in the passive tree that you should go for
Some accepted builds are much more difficult than others. And for someone like me with age-induced slowing reflexes I feel the early acts should be tuned down, so the mechanics can be learnt with less frustration. Also I don't like how GGG is attracting the "get gud" crowd, and fear I may move on to a different ARPG where I can stay in the zone for longer. I want an ARPG, not a souls-like.
I agree that for some people, like myself, it is too hard, defnitely much harder than PoE 1. I'm pushing 60 and have nerve damage from being paralyzed when I was younger, so my reflexes are terrible. The trash mobs don't give me any issues, but the boss fights are too difficult for me, which they weren't in PoE 1. If this is by design and not an early access balance problem, I'm afraid I'll have to go back to PoE 1 or start playing farming simulator...
Learn the mechanics, so much on offer but requires your understanding, the game wont babysit you to win, you have to work it out. Im destroying bosses on mercenary by learning how it works.

Its not realllllly hard, theres just no bloody gear, as soon as you get a few pieces...its like night and day
This game is super easy. It all depends on your gear and build though. I have 0 hours in poe 1 btw.
