The seams you are describing (enclosing one of the raw edges with the other seam allowance folded over) actually is called a "flat felled seam" in traditional sewing. It's a technique most often used for seams that will get a lot of wear, not just to make something reversible.
This system may be older
But yes dress makers will know it as a flat felled!
If I were a guest in your house I would love to be surrounded by these beautiful curtains. This is just what I need in our lounge room as the sun comes in in the afternoon and is in our eyes. Curtains like this would take the glare away. Beautiful.
As a Korean, I knew what bojagi is but didn't know how it's made. Now I know how to! Thank you so much for your tutorial❤😊
Hi Em, Bravo on making your version of these curtains, I love the light coming thru them I'm sure they'll last a long time (due to style seam) and bring fond memories. The seam you are describing is a french or flat-felled seam, and the cutting wheel is called a "rotary cutter" they come in 28, 45 and 60 cm sizes. We learn from each other, thank you for sharing these... I had never seen this made into curtains before
Hi Em!!
Absolutely beautiful! You explain very well and I love your style! At the very end when you showed the room with all your curtains up, all I could do was smile! Thank you for the inspiration and lesson!!! 💚🧡💙❤️🤍
Great, very basic, non-quilter video (quilters know how to sew pieces together). I learned this joining, or similar, as a French seam. Thank you for sharing.
Sorry, but that is definitely not the French seams
That's flat felled
I just found you. I had seen curtains made similar to this, only using 2 inch squares, but putting them together was the same. I could never find that tutorial again. Thank you for doing this. I have 17 Windows and French doors in my sewing room and wanted to make curtains for them like this. My room was a sun room, so I plan to line them...I will be subscribing. I am 74 and have been sewing all of my adult, but just really got into.quilting a couple years ago. Gloria from NE Tennessee...
Hi Gloria. That other tutorial you mentioned might be by Kate on The Last Homely House (on RUclips)
经过一周的试错,终于找到了最清楚的教程😂😂😂
I watched your room reveal, then came to see the curtains being made.
Wow, wow, wow.
A lot of work, so kudos on that. I had never heard of or seen the concept, but they turned out beautiful.
thank you! that means a bunch to me!
Brilliant demonstration with paper!! And your curtains are divine. ❤
Thank you so much!
Queste tende sono semplicemente fantastiche, credo che saranno il mio prossimo progetto di cucito.
Indeed very patiently and systematically explained by you. Awesome 💐
Flat felled seams are very durable and so neat and tidy! 🪡🧵
Beautiful process video thank you!
I love how your curtains came out! They look like stained glass; and also made me think of Frank Lloyd Wright.
thank you! i reminds me of that also!
Frank Lloyd Wright would be horrified with the end result.
wow thank you Linda! you are really making the younger generation of aspiring seamstresses feel good :)
@@Emma_Rae
From someone from an older generation, your curtains look fab. I agree that they are Frank Lloyd Wrightesque
I thought of stained glass and Piet Mondrian. I think they're beautiful.
TY for posting this. I wanted to make bathroom window curtains using cotton material scraps but wasn't sure how to pretty- up the seams.
Thank you! This video was very clear and I feel I have a sense of how to approach this task!
Thank you for the tutorial and I LOVE YOUR RUG! ❤
I love your curtains! I thought this was jogakbo? I made curtains like this using old box of 4” quilt squares I received from an old quilters attic. So of course the materials were all mixed and the patterns retro! I absolutely love the light coming through some squares and not others. To me this is a functional artwork. It look me so long but the result soooo worth it. I call them my boho curtains!
Thank you for this tutorial. In fact, the prices for those on etsy are creazy 😮😊
I will be trying this technique to make a summer weight throw for my bed. Thank you xx
Yes! I was thinking of doing a light summer pojagi quilt for my main bedroom one day! I’m sure it will turn out lovely
Great work. They turned out so well. Real labor of love. I’m considering trying this and your explanation of sew a four sided shape together helped me a lot that’s a good tip. Thanks!
These are so cool and beautiful! My daughter wants multi-coloured patchwork curtains for her new room, so this tutorial is so helpful to get me started! Thank you!
I’d not heard of this patchwork technique before and I love the curtain you made. Its inspirational and I’m definitely going to have a go.
I actually made similar curtains for my guest room in Florida. They were beautiful but they got faded very fast ! If I made again I would have to line them to prevent that. The sun will definitely fade out those beautiful colors very quickly and it's soul destroying after all your hard work.
These are gorgeous! Thank you for such thorough instructions, especially the part about everything needed to be sewn into rectangles. Been getting into patchwork and want to attempt to make some curtains like these, but something about trying to figure out how to piece them all together was making my brain hurt! The rectangles tip helps a lot!
I know you said that you had bought linen and cotton fabric for your curtains, but what type? Did you look for fabric that allowed some light to come through regardless as to the name of the fabric? Thank you for not using silk! It does not hold up well in a sunny window and will eventually decompose. Great tutorial for someone who seems like a new sewist! Looking forward to more great videos to come!
the linen was just plain flax linen (light weight pre-softened). and the cotton fabric I used was a double gauze, which I think added a nice bubbly texture. and yes, I'm very much just a tenacious hobbies who tries her best with new sewing projects! :)
Just stumbled on this. They are so pretty. I’m inspired! ❤
I make shower curtains and line them. Those seams will make it much easier so I can use one layer. Thanks!!!!
Thank-you SO MUCH. You made this so clear. God bless you, your curtains and your stappler 😅
This is exactly what I was looking for. How to make the back like the front, kind of, without raw edges on the back. I love the stained glass look, but I have for my initial project it will be dark starred fabric with panels the colors of the stars.
Singer make a foot that "turns" hems. I have a vintage one, but it still fits and works on my new machines. Love how the curtains look finished !
Love these!! They look SO good, you picked colors that worked so well with the wood paneling.
Beautiful video Your curtains look great. Thank you for sharing. Blessings to Everyone. ❤❤❤❤
Thank you! 🤗
a great result! thank you for sharing
Very cute! Summer blanket sounds fantastic for this! Thank you for sharing
Brilliant job. So well presented. I really liked the mention of details such as using contrasting colors of thread in bobbin and needle. I just subscribed and look forward to your next project. Btw, the William Morris wallpaper is beautiful
Lovely...hope to make one soon fr me
Those curtains are beautiful. I may try making some like that for a bedroom. Thank you so much for showing how they're done.
thank you for the video! I have scrap linen and am going to make a curtain for my partner!
Hi from South Africa 🇿🇦 I was wanting to make a patchwork jacket but didn't want it lined, like a light throw, this technique would work wonderfully and make it reversible. Think it's a French seem, but could be wrong 😂. Thanks for tutorial.
Wow! Thank you! This is a great tutorial! Plus, seeing them all up in that bedroom is stunning!! Great explanation & demo!!! So happy your channel just popped up today!! Now, I’m subscribed w/you👍🏻🤗👏🏻
thank you!
you’ve inspired me to try this! wish me luck lol
I love the color choices!
They look beautiful!
So helpful! Cant wait to give these a go
Wow..these are beautiful. I may be able to do this thanks to your video!
Fantastic instructional video thank you!
For older people, you are describing what was call french seams. Used in making shear fabric garments such as dotted swiss.
Actually a flat felled seam. Does a similar job as french seam but both sides are sewn to make a perfectly flat seam.
Wowww, beautiful curtain
So cool!
Great job.
great tutorial! these curtains are beautiful!
I shared this video on my Facebook...great job New subscriber
Thank you!! :-)
Cute!! Good job!
You did an awesome job !!!
Wow, that Looks really great!!!!
These look like stained glass! I think I would use different blues with yellow and purple!
A French seam?
Sew it like a French seam?
Very beautiful curtains, Emma, congratulations!
Thanks so much! 😊
😊❤❤🙌🙌beautiful job you are a sweetie good girl 😊
This is really inspiring! Where did you get your fabrics??
I made a curtain out of white cotton broadcloth and sheer fabric. I cheated because I used my serger an then top stitched. I love the security if that’s still seems I just did not have the patience for it.
Bonjour
Quel tissu avez vous utilisé ?
Merci
Linen and cotton gauze :-)
Start with white cotton, make curtains, then add the color pieces….Soooooooo much faster, same effect
😊
So sorry you couldn’t get the terms straight. Very disconcerting when attempting to learn a new process.
Very creative construction, but the result looks really terrible.
thank you for the kind word!
Hi Linda! It looks like you enjoy being unbearable and rude. Have you thought about not being like that?
No kidding? I thought they looked very nice!
You're entitled to your opinion, of course, but you could take a lesson from Thumper.
Stop messing with your hair!!!
