This is wonderful. Actually, this is fantastic. Videos that bring Linux and Radio together - esp when it comes to digital modes and the evolving field of SDR - are much appreciated and there aren’t a lot of guys out there that are experts in the area.
I wish I I new more on how to run computers like you just did. So I'll say thanks for what you've just demonstrated. It was more than I knew before.
Great job. You taught me a lot about Linux that I didn't know yet as well
This was extremely helpful. Thank you so much for walking through the steps for us.
Excellent step by step instructions video.
Great job

Thank you Kevin, it helps linux user's like me enormously You have better linux tutorials than the linux blokes lol, and I concur with Preston and John. So thank you again, and it is very much appreciated, this is a very good video. best wishes mate.
Thanks for your video Kevin. It is still usefull, helping me to get the 2.0.0 version.
Best 73's merry x-mas & happy new year from Lilian F5SIK.
Very good Kevin, thanks.
Excellent step by step instructions video

Very useful info! Cheers, G4LJW.
Thanks Kevin .... I noticed there is a RASPIAN version on the download versions =) Time to update the R Pi 2B rig control computer =)
great information
Great video!
I ran into a dependency problem with libreadwrite6 using your method. I was able to get around this by using terminal to install:
UBUNTU INSTALLATION
-------------------------------------------------
All install actions are performed in a terminal
sudo add-apt-repository -y ppa:ki7mt/wsjtx-next
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install wsjtx
That should do it; search your Applications Menu's for WSJT-X
That worked for me on linux mint
many thanks dear kevin i beginner in ubuntu linuix DG1XT Thomas i have bye win8 for 5 days
Thanks Kevin that has cleared up a number of issues unfortunately still won't get past gdebi installer lists a libgump 1 issue I think its because I running mint 17.2 with 14.04 ? Need to upgrade but that's another issue thanks Steve Gw7lop
Yeah, there's your problem. 14.04 is just too old. It won't support various library versions the package requires. Once you upgrade to at least 16.04, it will all work. 16.04 is quite stable, worth the upgrade.
Kevin, what do you use for keeping the computer clock in time with the world? Is it easier with Linex?
Yeah, very easy. In a terminal, type: sudo apt-get install ntp
That's it. The network time protocol daemon will run in the background and keep you in sync.
Just moved from windows to Linux and I get Hamlib error: Invalid parameter while getting current VFO every 2 to 3 cycles. Any thoughts ?

Thanks for video - Have followed your instructions and loaded wsjtx onto a PC running Linux Mint Cinnaman 64 bit all ok.Have tried to download the latest version 2.1.2 but am getting an error advising of a programming error in, "aptdaemon".The version of aptdaemon installed is 1.1.1 (can provide full error description if required).Thought it might be a problem updating to a 2.1.2 from 1.1 to higher a jump, tried updating to 2.0.0 but that failed as well same error.Any help appreciated.
That sounds like he is building wsjt-x on a newer version of linux with newer libraries and tools installed. Hopefully he's not building it on the 'testing' version, which is bleeding edge and always way ahead of the release versions of the OS.
If your install of mint is not the most recent release, let it update itself to the latest and try to build wsjt-x again.
Hello Kevin,
Can you please share, how to install LoTW Certificate in Linux for logging. Thank you for your videos
Sure, watch for it in a few days.
Could you also survey a good logging software on Linux. Focus would be on the use of RPi. Favorite among hams.
The popular one is CQRLOG, which has all the bells and whistles. I use Xlog, which is far simpler. Aside from those two, I haven't looked. CQRLOG uses a SQL lite database, so it's a lot heavier, requiring a SQL database engine be installed.
Shame that it could not be this simple for updating Fldigi.
Hi Kevin Thanks for video-I am unable to upgrade on 32 bit machine -- followed steps but get a dependency error (libgomp1-(>=4.9).I am new to Linux Mint 17.2 and only started today -- finding my way around .Any suggestions to meet the dependencies. Would like to upgrade from old wsjtx to new to include the FT8-thanks in advance- Bradley Glen ZS5BG
Hi Bradley, look up that library in synaptic and see what version you have. If it's newer than 4.9, that could be the problem. His build of wsjtx was built at a specific version and if the newest releases of linux have newer versions, we'll have to wait until he rebuilds the program under the newer versions.
My ham machine is still running Ubuntu 16.04 for the broadest compatibility with existing software. Often the software developers shy away from the latest and greatest to avoid bugs that have yet to be fixed. If you want to stick with the newer desktop, you'll probably have to watch the wsjtx site for the official release of the latest version, rather than the beta.
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for the information-- a bit disappointed I did not change to Linux many years ago .Will keep a watch on the new release.Kind regards Bradley
Hi Kevin, well the 1.8.9 is out, it still does not work with debian 9.2. I wrote Joe and will see.
Can't you use uname -a??
Yes, one of several methods.
