I was surprised at all of the questions about Miriam Margolyes sexuality and wondered if that was meant to be the focus of the interview until Miriam asked "why all the questions?" I appreciate how the interviewer did not get offended by the question but switched topics and I also appreciate the fact that Miriam Margolyes does not want to be defined by her sexuality because she's right, she's just a person. However, I can also understand the reason for all the questions because Miriam is so outspoken and she came out at a time when it was not as acceptable to be gay as it is today so of course it would be interesting to get her take on things. Great interview.

Normally I also would not want to hear all about someone's Sex life, but it is an interesting Situation. Being gay in the 60's 🤓
....personally I wish more women were talking about Menopause, because I'm 46, and think it might be starting - and realize now I really know NOTHING about it, other than hot flashes.
2 weeks ago I could barely walk because everything was spinning, I was dizzy and nauseous (combination of car sick and hung-over) Come to find out that's a totally normal symptom of Menopause.

    • @aartadventure
      @aartadventure 3 года назад +5

@@adorable3817 Historically doctors were men and cared little about health issues that were unique to women. Plus, the historic societal attitude to menopause was to silently endure, with the occasional joke about hot flushes or emotional outbursts. Things are starting to change but you need to actively search out books from your local library, find a good doctor (I'd probably suggest an older female doctor if possible), and maybe also check out some online blogs. It could also be helpful to check out social media groups like facebook pages on menopause, but please don't take any health or medical advice from those places as gospel. In summary, we live in a golden age of information - educate yourself about menopause!

I actually enjoyed that for once, questions about sexuality are not reserved for young attractive actors, but to an older, wise, talented and iconic woman. She's able to reflect on many years of her sexuality and I think that's very rare because people tend to be uncomfortable with the idea of older people being sexual.
She goes in depth about many things and her sexuality just happens to be one of them.

Interesting. Miriam is such a surprise to people because she is very self defined and most people are SO defined by external culture and doubts about self-consept as it relates to the external. For this reason, although Miriam herself may not be aware of it, she is an international treasure, the gift she brings is the talent of scuppering people's small self-consepts, by sharing her own comparitvely immense self determination.

Really? I thought she was terrible. She was like paparazzi digging inappropriately into an award winning actress' sexual life. It wasn't done in conversation or with a build up to it. It might just be the dropping standards of journalism or societal standards of what is polite. And I think I'm right because she goes on and basically asks her if she's upfront because she's old! I mean wtf...Jesus Christ, then she asks her if she wants to live with jer partner because she might die. This young lady really needs to work on her social skills, boundaries and people skills.

I have never publicly said this. But I admire this woman’s honesty so much I feel compelled to say this. I am an only child of a gay “father” and a wonderful mother. My father’s parents were some of my biggest heros (very strict old school Baptist older people) and when my father told them he was gay it was a big deal. But I am thankful that I had amazing grandparents (who didn’t approve of his actions- but loved him) and to this day I can say they love my mother (who is the best mama in the whole world) my mama even came to cut my Gigi’s hair when I was 18 ( she had been married to my wonderful stepdad for like 10 years at this point) but it hurts my heart that she thinks her parents never forgave her for that. But I’m happy for her! I wish I had her confidence!

"....lesbians are all different; you can't lump an entire group of people. That's like saying all people with brown hair like tomatoes."
Honestly, I'm so desperately glad she said that. I am so flipping tired of LGBT issues in the media continuing to "other" us and then act like their doing something good because this type of "othering" puts is up on a damned pedestal. What on earth is so wrong with the notion that we are just people? Other than people who have extremely grandiose personalities, who would want to be treated differently or seen differently from any other human being for any reason. No matter how much of a "positive" light someone presents these feelings towards a person or persons doesn't change how immensely dehumanizing it is to define a person or persons by such a superfluous detail about them.
To be clear, I am not upset with people asking questions about being LGBT (or other misunderstood groups - I encounter similar attitudes in regards to me being disabled). I am just so desperately glad when it is highlighted that we are literally just people. All most LGBT people want is to just be seen for what we are: people.

And there is nothing wrong with that. The notion that “life is so much bigger than sexuality” is really only true for the privileged. What I love about Miriam is her honesty and that she is straightforward. She has an amazing intellect and is genuinely funny. She has certainly brightened up my life at times. Good interview, but she doesn't really merit so many questions about her sexuality.

What a fascinating person! I got to know her through her playing Prof Sprout, of course; then very much enjoyed her work in "Blackadder"; but those roles are just scratching the surface, and it's a pleasure watching the interviews and learning more and more about her!

I enjoyed this interview very much.
When Miriam said she is delighted by people, it reminded me of her appearance on the Graham Norton Show when she and Will.I.am were guests. The way she 'clicked' with Will.I.Am was such a treat to watch.
I think it's worth looking up.
She is so authentic, I admire that.
    P.S. Canadian fan.

Thank you for speaking out for your parents. You definitely loved them. Unfortunately, people today and more interested in creating their world with little regard for others. I understand that felt selfish because you realized you hurt the people who loved the most. And to see them as selfish, the 2 people who loved you and wished the best for you is very egotistic. We don't create our world and expect everyone to see it as we do. One is not defined by their sexuality. We are who we are. Thank you for standing up to how you see the world.

When I think of Miriam I think, Vivacious! I love the woman in every way. I can think of no better way to spend my life than being near to hear what wonderful view she has about everything. I disagree with her on a few things but she has a way of stating things that catch you completely off guard. She shocks your senses but is never offensive.
