Lovely - just came in from our Camino training (gardening) for a cafe con leche and found this lovely video. Thanks for location names really helpful. Hope you are both safe and well. Cheers Elly x
Hi Jim an De, love your videos, my wife & I have binge-watched them many times! We plan to do the Camino Frances in Sept-Oct 2022 and I was wondering if you had advice on where I can, and more importantly, where I cannot fly my drone. I have a Mavic Air 2 that I can't wait to use over there. Thanks in advance for your reply, and thank you for doing these videos! Tim & Pat
Hi Tim and Pat We are planning the Portuguese way the same time (we may see you in Santiago) I had the Mavic Air also ( great drone , nice and compact with great video capabilities ) The rules in Spain are pretty much the same as most countries .You can't fly within 5 km of any airport , in most large cities or over crowds of people. If your "fly base "is up to date it will give you an on screen warning when you are in a prohibited area . The fines run up to $2500000 .but don't worry too much there are plenty of fabulous spots along the Camino that will give you fabulous opportunities to get footage. I have the "fly more "pack that includes 3 batteries , it is so useful to have at least one extra battery as just as you are getting good video your low battery warning alarm sounds. The good thing about the Mavic is its so small and apart from the fact its a little noisy , most of the time no one will even know you have it up . Have a fabulous Camino and if we can help with anything else please let us know. We look forward to seeing your Camino footage when you are done Buen Camino Jim and De
@@JimandDe Thanks for the info. I did get the "fly more pack" and fully agree about having extra batteries. If the timing works out and we do meet in Santiago, then the first beer is on us ;-)
Hi Bryan I did not need one for my mavic air . That was late 2019. They do have very strict rules regarding where you can and cannot fly , the fines also are substantial but your DJI software should tell you if you are in a restricted area. I will see if I can find the website I got all my information from and flick it to you . Cheers
Jim actually they change the rules in 2021 I found out DJI mini two with the camera is required to be licensed as well as the pilot needs to attain a separate license. Just found this out today unfortunately we leave tomorrow. No drone footage for me🤣
Jim, De, Really enjoyed your videos. My wife and I are going at the end of April and we are close to your age so watching your adventure was inspiring. We do plan on training and maybe not quite walking as far as you folks did each day. Question -What was the contraption on your hiking pole and were you using a go pro on it or an iphone. Thanks!!
Hi Bryan So glad to hear you have Camino plans and glad our videos have helped.we do love a good walk and yes we did do a few more kms each day than most of our fellow pilgrims. From our point of view training is a big help. It will prepare you for long haul , like most things in life if you want to get the most of an experience, some form of training helps. As for the contraption on my pole… Well I shake quite badly . So I made a holder for a gimbal ( a gimbal is a device that holds your phone and acts like a gyroscope giving you stable video footage)otherwise the video I shot would give most people epilepsy. Thanks for your positive feedback and let us know how your preparation for your Camino is going and your thoughts after you walk the Way Buen Camino
@@JimandDe Jim a couple more questions. What gimbal did you use? Were you happpy with it. Was it cumbersome on the trekking pole? Did it stand up well to the pounding of the pole during the hike. I was going to use a gimbal but have it strapped to my shoulder strap. Having it attached to the pole seems like it would be pretty handy to slap a camera on it when needed. Buen Camino from Galveston!!
Hi Bryan The gimbal I used was a zhiyun. I was pretty happy with it although the tracking features on it did not work very well. The extra weight on the pole was a bit of a pain even though I did train with it on the poles before we left . The big benefit was always having it readily available but I must say I dropped it on a number of occasions and did break it on about day 7 . I ended up fixing it with a stainless steel clothes peg .
This is a wonderful place and amazing.
Hi Varz
We agree totally :-)
