Thx for the nice videos. A small observation: a game is lost by the phasing player if defcon reaches nuclear war, not necessarily the player who dropped the defcon level. Cheers!
Great work as always. Thank you for the clear and concise explanations, plus clear and illustrative visuals. Know it takes a lot of effort to put these together - very much appreciate the care and consideration.
Just wanted to say a HUGE thank you, have owned the game for months knowing I’d love it but too intimated to understand how to play, you absolutely fixed this dilemma with your tutorial!
Excellent explanation. Your content is always of such high content. Just one small correction though: on the space race you stated that all players can earn the special abilities. Actually, it's only the first player to reach that step, and that effect is automatically cancelled as soon as the other player reaches that same step.
Excellent videos to learn this excellent game. Thank you so much for all the effort. I play digital version of it and so many things are clear to me now.
Thanks for all 3 lessons. I just play the app version where everything is handled automatically. Your vids gave me the required understanding in attempting to understand and win the game after just randomly trying to play without strategy... Lol
Always love your high-quality clip!.. ..I've recently bought Twilight Struggle..and your channel's always been the first & foremost choice that I turn to when learning how to play a war game😃..
Thank you for this series, very clear. As far as I can tell there is one error with your description of losing because of reaching Defcon 1. The rules say it is the phasing player who loses when it happens, not necessarily the player who triggered it, and the example given is of a non-phasing player triggering it to win during the phasing player's turn (8.1.3)
THE standard for high production quality tutorials! Love your videos. I’m disappointed that you haven’t done a set on this game’s successor, 1989: Dawn of Freedom. Please consider doing one. Thanks!
This series made me subscribe. Excellent work! That should be helpful for many new players for several years to come. It is the best Twilight Struggle tutorial I have watched. I have a question regarding the previous episode, for domination and control of a region, do you count all the countries total (battle ground and non-battle ground) and all the battle ground total? Or do you count the Non-battle ground countries total and the battle ground countries total?
For Domination you're comparing two totals with your opponent and must beat them at both. 1st each sides total of Non-Battleground countries. 2nd each sides total of battleground countries. If one player has more of each category in a region they've achieved Domination.
I don’t want to read through 44 comments, but I’m guessing someone did cover the following slight error in phrasing, or egregious error if Harsh is interpreted strictly: The person who drops the DEFCON level to DEFCON one (🤯) is NOT the loser as Ben said. Rather, the loser is the person who is on turn (aka: phasing player ) when the nuclear war begins. This is a VITAL distinction to keep in mind because during your turn, you can easiky make a terrible misplay allowing your opponent to Coup in a battleground causing the nuclear war. They are not the loser, instead you are Because Armageddon happened on your turn.
Harsh, I have a question. There is an early war card, but it is shown in player help cards as late war (name: Defectors). It isn't shown as a optional card also. I have a little mindfk in which deck I should place it. Help please
It's an early war card. The player help must have a typo. Here is a link to BGG below where they discuss it. boardgamegeek.com/thread/1625133/defectors-be-included-early-war-deck
I will start my first game this weekend, and i Have a very stupid question regarding action rounds. So for the early far, there's three turns ( right?) so 18 action rounds? each turn having 6. second question regarding the defcon status and military operations, lets say the defcon is 5, does it mean that each player need to attemps 5 coup or whhathever operations, or have a total of 5 ops point played? thanks
If defcon is 5 then you need to conduct 5 ops points of military operations to not lose VPs. However, obviously if both players each conduct none, you just break even.
During your Realignment explanation , at the 2nd modifier step "each controlled adjacent country" , you give USSR a point for controlling Afghanistan , which they dont . Is there something Im missin?

Such a good set of tutorials. I'm about to play after not playing in several years. Thanks for bringing me back up to speed!

Brilliant work from start to finish. Love the animations you created, so organised and makes this complex slightly more simple
Thank you for these videos; they’re extremely well done and helpful.

Just bought the game to play with my wife and watching the videos to learn. Thanks!

Excellent job. The wife and I were able to see where we made rules mistakes in previous sessions of the game.
Excellent 3-parter Ben. Been meaning to learn this game for ages. Many thanks!
Great job Ben! Your explanations are clear and concise. Very much appreciated.
seriously good tutorial, saved me, because the rulebook is a bit much
You do such impressive work on these tutorials. THANKS !!!

After checking the rules....
More battleground countries and more total countries (including battlegrounds again)
Labyrinth: war on terror next please!
Thanks for the well made videos, Ben! My copy of Twilight Struggle just came in and I’m excited to play!
Brilliant, Ben. As a beginner this gives me a lot of confidence with the game. Slowing the speed helped a lot too.
Thanks! I look forward to my first game!
Exceptionally well done video just like in Pt 1 & 2!
Thank you very much, Ben. how about putting links to parts one and two in your description? Just a suggestion.
Thanks! I added links.
Thank you for the suggestion and the follow through. Very helpful.

Yes, it's ops points played
I wish you would have been my teacher in mathematics, physics, chemistry ...(says a teacher and engineer)
During your Realignment explanation , at the 2nd modifier step "each controlled adjacent country" , you give USSR a point for controlling Afghanistan , which they dont . Is there something Im missin?
He gives the USSR a point for controlling Pakistan.
He gives USSR a point because Afghanistan is adjacent to the USSR itself (the thick black line pointing to USSR top left)
" Pakistan is adjacent to Afghanistan, and controlled by the USSR."
Meaning, Pakistan is controlled by the USSR.
This game is rather complicated... 😅
