I am obsessed with grid paintings and this is a wonderful, inspiring way for me to experiment tomorrow. I love your videos. thank you for sharing your talent with us.
I love everything about this, and i love the colors and shapes you choose. This is the art excercise I was looking for and didn’t even know it, thank you!
So many great ideas. Yours a great instructor! I always learn so much from your videos. I also love that there’s no music when you talk. It’s very relaxing.
@@jackieschomburgart I’m always interested n hearing why artists use this or that color, medium, etc. The more you are explaining what you are doing- the more I can learn from it. This video was a perfect example as I’m trying to learn more about collaging right now. Thanks for sharing.
I love how the collage paper still looks organic despite the fragmentation. I wonder, have you ever taken one of these small experimental squares to a bigger substrate? I always try new things when I watch your work. Just catching up with your videos. 💫💥💞Happy week!
Thanks Treezy! I haven’t tried to recreate a small square as a larger work, but I definitely let the small squares influence my larger work. For me, trying to recreate something (even just the shape) removes some (all?) of the magic. I do find it very useful to help me decide how to scale up to a larger panel though ❤️
Oh what a nice thing to hear! Abstract is a completely different animal, isn’t it? It can be so freeing (and also frustrating)! Keep showing up! ❤️❤️❤️
I also love this exercise and each of the compositions are wonderful! I'm thinking you could select a few to scale up a bit, then they function as thumbnails for larger pieces. Anyway, just a thought. I'm very much enjoying your channel. 😊

Ooomph. I can imagine missing those old journals when looking for good materials. ❤️🩹 Good thing there are so many options for collage materials everywhere we turn. Thanks so much for watching, Robert! It’s always nice to hear from you. ☺️
Jackie, with acrylic paint if you use Murphy’s Oil Soap and water, soak your ruined brushes and they will come totally alive again! Sometimes it takes a couple of days but it works well. I’ve been used it with gel, left in brushes. It’s fantastic!! Thanks for all the videos! I’m hooked ❤
i also feel really drawn to circles/ovals/orbs so i decided to paint along with you and make some of my own and uh, the anxiety i felt just moving paint around was unreal. it's clear to me how hard it is to get back in after being out of the studio for a week just working on this with you. thanks for giving me something to vibe with so i could feel a kinship of art making and somewhere to come back to as like a touchstone while creating and trying to push through my terrible anxieties and fears and getting back into making art after a break. i've only just put my collage bits down as i'm typing this, so i'm only about 7 minutes into your video, but i'm loving yours so far and though the preview image is a spoiler for how they'll all turn out, i look forward to getting through the entire video to see how they get there and how different mine turn out as i work alongside you with a different color palette. i also like to make my grid journals look nice across the whole thing while simultaneously focusing on the individual compositions. it can be hard!! thank goodness for kelly wynne teaching us all the tracing a square version of making grid journals!! it seems so obvious in retrospect but we were really all out here measuring and using tape before lmao
ohhh, the big black bold bits are so game changing!! finally got to the end, it took me awhile. i still don't like mine, they need more work. definitely going to try adding some bold black collage. yours look fabulous. thanks for sharing this process.
@@jackieschomburgart i chickened out on the black a little haha i also kinda ran short on time…i spent two hours on this little exercise. i might revisit with a braver outlook and add the black later 😊
I'm new to your channel and art in general. I'm enjoying your videos, but especially the grid videos 😍 You mentioned a homemade wet pallette in this video. I have no idea what that is. Can you explain or maybe point me to a video of yours explaining it. I think I get the gist of it from its name, but I also, frequently, assume wrong 🤣 Thanks!
Hi! Thanks so much for watching! The pallet I used is an enamel pan (could be any kind of pan that is water tight), I add a few layers of wet paper towels, then top with a sheet of baking parchment. I squeeze my paints directly on to the parchment and the paint stays usable longer because of the other moisture underneath 🤗
Thanks, Jackie! This turned out great! I love the colors. I appreciate the encouragement to take risks. As a new artist, I can't hear that enough. I believe someone else also asked, what size are your little squares?
Hi Stacy! Yes! Taking risks is important (and takes practice too)! Keep showing up to your art and keep making it. It took me almost a decade to realize how important QUANTITY is to coming into your own as an artist. Keep showing up! ❤️❤️❤️
Hi! Just found your channel and I love this process you are doing. What sketch book are you using if you don’t mind me asking. I’d love to try this and explore the process and play with colors!
Hi June! This is a watercolor sketchbook from the Hand Book Journal company. Here’s a link to the one I was using: Handbook Journal Co. Artist Watercolor Sketchbook Journal, Square 8.25 x 8.25 Inches, 95lb / 200 GSM, Hardcover w/ Pocket a.co/d/9aRJt2B
I love your presentational format: the voice-over

Hi Anna - I use gloss medium as my glue for collage ☺️
@@jackieschomburgart I have a gloss medium but I find it leaves my page sticky even after days of drying. Maybe it’s reacting with some of my paints?
