Ash, I spent significant time researching this and coming up with every feasible scenario in which it could happen. You cannot, wether it's an Aimed Shot, with or without a Targeting Computer, or with the Marksman SPA, deliberately, ever, aim for the head. The only time you hit the head is 1) You're reading a novel/story and it happens or 2) You roll a 12 on the hit location (6 if punching, or 6 if kicking from a higher elevation, a few other instances). Even if a mech is Immobilized and Prone, and you're at Point Blank Range, you cannot make an Aimed Shot to the head.
Ilclan is really sucking me in more. Over the last couple of years I've been in and out of the game and lore, but now it seems they have a set number of factions now which is easier to follow for me than it was when I got started in the clan invasion era. I prefer alpha strike with the ilclan era, but I want to learn classic BT a little more in the 3025 era just because it seems so iconic when I listen to veterans of the game discuss it.
On the subject of stadium deaths, the audience usually watch the 'Mechs from a safe distance and rely on cameras to follow the action. Especially when one map is a tunneled out mountain and another is an old multi-level DropShip factory with super-heavy elevators!
I could also see it interesting to use pseudotech with this and instead of using achievements for infantry deaths see that swapped for attendee deaths.
If you want to make a multi-player Solaris battle even zanier, you could use the rules from the 2 PseudoTech pdfs that turn Battletech into a MechAssault style arcade game with power ups and health packs and other fun little additions.
If you fold Flechs sheets in half, the front side will have all the intro stuff i.e. armor and weapons, and the bottom side will have internals, heat and criticals. Wish Catalyst had done the same with the Beginner and Essentials boxes.
There are a ton of fun ideas this has given me: Tag team? Yes. Melee only cage match? Definitely. The royal rumble? Absolutely - though 30 mechs would be weird and difficult. 8-12 or there about would probably be enough. New mechs drop in every 2 or 3 turns. Definitely need to get a couple of folks to provide some good old fashioned Jim Ross / Jerry Lawlor style commentary though: "That Atlas looks unstoppable. He just punched the arm clear off that Banshee." "Oh look at this! This looks like trouble, here we go!" "Wait! Wait a minute! Where? Where'd that charger come from?! What's he doing?!" "Uh oh...He's eyeing up that Atlas" "Good God, don't do it! Think of your family, man! BAH GAWD! HE DID IT! He just elbow dropped that Atlas from the top of the wall and flattened the cockpit! That atlas went down like a sack of bricks" "Well...Someone's going to need a squeegee..."
Stadium deaths from rouge missiles? That'd be the film "Robot Jocks" but that was a mech falling into the stands to block an attack from the antagonist. I thought there was some sort of lostech power shields that protects the crowd.
Yeah I'm heading to target when I get up!!! hahaha. I almost ordered that model of the rifleman off etsy before seeing this vid hahaha. Nice speed play too! Cheers!
Probably pretty bummed if you drove to Target & didn't see it out since it was only pre-orders (which have been sold out) until it hit the shelves today June 18th. Makes a great Father's Day present here in the US! Looking forward to playing today with at least one of my kids, & looking forward to this Solaris map & rules to lure some of my other kids & especially my 13yo daughter into playing.
Really looking forward to seeing classic BT rules, & maybe even some custom mechs playing on the Solaris VII maps & w the stable rules. I have just gotten into Classic BT, but isn't there old FASA sourcebooks or supplements for Solaris VII? If so what were/are they called & are they viable with the current state of BT?
In the books Justin had modified his Centurion by removing the LRM and upgrading the AC10 to an AC20. Are the stats for that variant included in the box as well?
By God! It's a Hunchback with a steel chair!
The poor son of a- he's broken in half!

Just started reading this series of books.
Bah Gawd! That man has a family!
Steiner stadium has a star league defense net to stop the crowds from being squished or blown to bits, other Solaris stadiums are all remote view only
Can't wait to see the Classic video!

References to that movie are always fun.
I believe called shots cannot target the head because targeting computer cannot target head. Looks like fun way to play.
hate being canadian since no targets up here would love to freaking play this kinda match of battletech
It’s robot jox! With the audience

@@harvestblades yup, exactly. My target was 5 mins away. Happy fathers day!
cool idea ran something like this with teams of ten larger table
Such a good starter
Very cool!

So... Essentials maps + pseudotech + total warfare rules... Video game like version of old Solaris 7 play? Sounds like a blast to me.
I thought the final battle was between Justin and Philip?
ROBOT-JOX!!!
Crash and Burn!
Once you realized that you forgot the Sniper ability, two of the rolls would have hit....you rolled 7s twice for what should have been 6s.
I would of lost a lot of C-bills on that fight, lol. Are there Alpha Strike cards for the mechs in the box?
No, just pilot cards this time
In the books Justin had modified his Centurion by removing the LRM and upgrading the AC10 to an AC20. Are the stats for that variant included in the box as well?
No, the record sheets included are for standard versions of both 'Mechs, not the warriors' custom versions.
I have to get one of my american friends to grab this for me
did you order the essentials from target in the states. far as I know target has been wiped out in canada.
the only place in bt where there are force shields used!!!😂😆😆😁😁✌
We needed George Ladeaux for this one
I can't help but think this game looks like such a drag. I couldn't imagine adding even more mechs...
Alpha Strike is much faster. This channel has play videos of it as well.
Solaris IIV?
Wish it had the proper load outs for those mechs and not just the base mech stats
