Refurb those OEM wheels.... maybe get them powder coated in some interesting colour. Loving this build. This is a sick old school rig that tons of us are into. A modern Hemi in this thing with the newer go-fast goodies available would be hella fun.
I do remember a few years back government passed some regulation where the tanks had to be empty washed and drilled to try and stop ground pollution at scrap/junk yards.
This is coming out at the perfect timing I have a 1999 1500 2wd and just got into an apprenticeship program and plan on rebuilding my truck and can use this as a game plan
Glad to see you got the parts you needed to find for the 97 truck! Looking good now! Will love to hear it when you light it off with a gen 3 hemi in it. Thanks for the cool updates & all!
Do the bed dolley so you can take it apart for storage and I won’t mind seeing you building it!!!! And looking forward to the fresh content on this truck being I have a similar body style truck!!!
Like this build!! I currently have a 65 D100 on top of a 2000 ram 1500 running gear and chassis. I have a 5.7 hemi laying around and want to eventually throw it in there!!!
Do a roll pan in the rear, but the color match back bumper looks nice too. The sport front bumper cover looks bulky to me and sport front grille. Still looks nice either way thou you go.
Awesome build! I'm in the process of swapping a 5.7 and 46re with a terminator x max into my 98 4x4 1500. Stuck on picking a torque converter to match the cam at the moment. Just received the ECU after a 4 month wait.
Hey man. I was going to say you need a cart for that as soon as you pulled the bed off. I build leaf and torsion axles for living. Just wanted to say, I'd probably replace those leaf spring bushings. They tend to rot and crack over time. Depending on weight and bolt tensile strength a sudden crack or blowout can snap the bolt and end up with a bad day.
Don't down play this project John. This is awesome, sometimes the more simple projects are very interesting. It's cool to see a project that the novice can learn from, and relate to! By the way, beautiful job on the frame cleanup! What degreaser/cleaner, and what paint did you use? Because the results are truly amazing! Great job! Keep up the good work!
I was going to say that the rear axel probably has 3.55 or 3.92... more likely 3.55 but I am sure it has the sure grip diff clutch pack is probably spent but maybe they swapped it out....I mean for the time they built the truck they had the available go fast goodies of the time and technology.i would also do the axel bearings and seals or go to the upull yard and find a newer rear axel with disc brake set up. The fuel tank from many of the trucks you passed up would have worked you would have just needed to grab the filler neck but you found one so that's good.as for the roll pan on the rear.... don't do it refinish the original rear bumper it makes it look a lot better and factory the trucks (SST and INDY 500 edition) sat 1-2 inches lower than the regular 2wd short bed trucks. That 727 will probably take what ever you throw at it if it's been tinkerd with I am thinking it probably has a reverse valve body (big back then for drag racing) and the more I think about it it probably has 4.10 or 4.56 gear in it if specifically race built going to be interesting to watch. 👍👌✌️🇺🇸🇺🇲
Hell yea 2nd gen content!!! Can't wait to see how this thing ends up,I have a 96 ram v8 with a manual in it was curious about doing a 5.7 eventually,do you know if the manual would bolt up to the 5.7 or even handle it?
If you need a tank for a 94-97 I have one, and I'm in SC. I bought it for a 98 and ended up it was the wrong one. 94-97 are one style and 98-01 are the other.
All cars in junkyards like pull a part purposely puncture all gas tanks, drain all fluids, and puncture oil pans and remove batteries so no one can attempt to try and start any car on the lot. It is also an EPA regulation

This truck gonna be epic 🙌 when done and fresh paint in my opinion I would restore the original color with the blue stripes but if your going with a different color I dig it also 😉 #BSTEDMTRSPRTS
They always punch holes in the gas tanks to drain them before they put them out in the yard. So you probably won’t find a good gas tank in a wrecking yard.
dang. thing is cleaner underneath than a brand NEW ram sitting on a dealer lot in Ontario. freakin' salt/brine. rusty shit up here. 30 min quick job : bolt *snap* .. turns into a 3 day ordeal
I'm really excited to see the SS/T build taking off! Looking great so far!
Refurb those OEM wheels.... maybe get them powder coated in some interesting colour.

For myself all the fun is checking out the different junk yards ..
thumbs UP!
This is coming out at the perfect timing I have a 1999 1500 2wd and just got into an apprenticeship program and plan on rebuilding my truck and can use this as a game plan

This is probably gonna be my favorite build on the channel. Psyched for this truck!

Yup, real og mechs wear flip-flops 😎I just ordered my Hellkota Tshirt yesterday. 🤘🏁🏁
Wish I never sold my 97 ss/t it was crazy clean
I’m getting ready to restore my 1998 SS/T, can’t wait to see how this turns out!
Do a roll pan in the rear, but the color match back bumper looks nice too. The sport front bumper cover looks bulky to me and sport front grille. Still looks nice either way thou you go.
This is an awesome project

Can’t wait to this this truck done! Gives me more motivation to hemi swap mine.
And get the roll pan, I got one and love the look!

Yes I agree it came out amazing. Can you post the degreaser/cleaner and paint used in this project please. Thanks JOHN
My guy! Build after build ! Keep it up can’t wait to see this one.
Yessir! Gotta keep moving 💪🤘
SST10, LETS GO
Dude I’m excited for this one! Want to get the 96 b/w Indy pace truck to go with my gen2 b/w viper someday! Keep up the good work man!
Love this channel you have saved me thousands working on my Viper and my Ram 1500 keep up the good work
Kinda want to do this hemi swap to my 2nd gen. Can't wait to see it completed.
This going to be a amazing build 🙌
Nice job keep up the perfect work

They drill holes in gas tanks at salvage yards to drain them 😊
If you need a tank for a 94-97 I have one, and I'm in SC. I bought it for a 98 and ended up it was the wrong one. 94-97 are one style and 98-01 are the other.
Super excited to see what you do with this truck, but that chassis is lookin awesome it cleaned up well good job 👍🏼

Roll pan for sure! 👍🏻
Can't wait to see more keep up the hard work bro :)
Id also like to se the 4th gen 1500 bumper with the dual exhaust ports on a 2nd gen
This is a very interesting build. Looking foreword to the future videos.
Nice!
There's a registry for the SS/T and Indy Pace trucks on Instagram and Facebook...
If you go with an actual rear bumper, 3rd gen rear bumpers fit up super nice and look great on 2nd gens
Im also re doing a kenne bell supercharged ss/t.
Good jop man

Thanks brother 💪🫡🤘
I have a lowered 2001 2nd gen and have been looking for those wheels.
This truck gonna be epic 🙌 when done and fresh paint in my opinion I would restore the original color with the blue stripes but if your going with a different color I dig it also 😉 #BSTEDMTRSPRTS
Will the engine mounts work for a 4x4 2nd gen 1500?
Maybe get a new 4 link 392 rear end. Will have to do some fabrication, not anything you can't handle.
Roll pan for sure
I still have people asking me where I got my wheels on my SS/T. Most are surprised when I tell them they are the factory wheels.
I dig this build! Is this the truck that the blown up 5.9 came out of?
I stayed to the end. How much for those days wheels????
Let's see it all please
Roll pan for sure.
I remember I had a chance to buy a black with silver stripe all original for 3300 about 5 years back, I should’ve just got it :/
Caint wait I'm suscribed
💪💪💪
This looks like a previous textbook John Mercedes build. All half assed.
I wanna do this to my 95 single cab but hellcat swap
Any plans for interior
Roll pans are disgusting. Cool video
Should bed line the under side of the bed while it’s off
They always punch holes in the gas tanks to drain them before they put them out in the yard. So you probably won’t find a good gas tank in a wrecking yard.
How much for those wheels. I mean if you are changing them
The u pull yards drill tanks for safety as well, no tank will be salvageable
Send me those hedmans😅
SS/T should be a SS/TT 😁
Looks like the green truck was heading to scrap metal and had the tank machine drained before crushing. Then u-pull it got the truck
I think u should Cummins swapped it the resale value would be a jump high
Wish it woulda gotten v10 swap like the mexican v10 vts rams but cool nonetheless
dang. thing is cleaner underneath than a brand NEW ram sitting on a dealer lot in Ontario. freakin' salt/brine. rusty shit up here. 30 min quick job : bolt *snap* .. turns into a 3 day ordeal
Do you have parts for sale to do the swap?
I would put a roll pan. And im not sure if i would want it white with blue stripes or blue with white stripes.
Looks like the u pull is drilling holes in the tanks to drain the gas 😢
I'll buy that bumper if you're selling it. For my 97 sst
I have my bed set on 4 wheel dollies to move the bed around.
Rock auto has the leaf springs for your truck for $120 a side
Do you do builds for clients?
Depends what it is send us a message
8spd swap!!
I still don't know how u can work on cars in sandals. I'd have bloody dirty feet
Hope this one doesnt get a hemi too
I got a fuel tank in vegas
It was not a that old
