    I do not understand why these apartments are not furnished. A bed at least. maybe a chair and a table. Every tenant needs that . What is one supposed to do? Buy some furniture and abandon it in few years? it should be possible that the existing furniture (already bought by a leaving tenant) pass to the next tenant. How does this work now? What happens with the used furniture after the student finishes school?

    omg, a typical student room in Finland is much more modern, equipped and bigger than rooms in Japanese rooms. I used to be a student in Japan, their dorm rooms is small and the kitchen and bathroom is shared by all people in the dorm

      @RoadtoFinnish  4 года назад

      Yes, many student apartments in Finland are much more spacious compared to other countries. It has a lot to do with the local culture and the way of living. There are also surely flats where roommates share an even smaller kitchen and bathroom, but we always have our own private rooms. We don't really do dorms (as in the US) in Finland.

    Hi! Thanks again for your useful videos! I have some question about the Shared/Roomie rooms around Viikki-Kontula-Kurkimäki:
    -Have all the shared/roomie appartments separated locked rooms?
    -The locked rooms are for a single person? The whole appartment (roomie) is for only 2 people?
    -Is this option always cheaper than the option of a room in a shared appartment for 3/4 people?
    Hope to hear from your answer

      Hi Naiara and thanks for the feedback. I answered your questions in the previous video just now so go check them out as well. Regarding these questions:
      The majority of student apartments in Finland include a lockable, private room for one person. However, you might also find some few options for a shared room in a shared apartment. Hoas has a few of these type of apartments specifically for exchange students. In order to be able to apply for a shared room together, both tenants must have the same exchange period and they must be the same gender. Both applicants must submit their individual applications and provide the name of their desired roommate.
      All other apartment (with the exception of family apartments) types are built so that every tenant has their own private and lockable room. The overall size of the apartment can change depending on the building.
      A shared room in a shared apartment is the most affordable option of Hoas furnished apartments. However, a (private) room in a shared apartment is usually affordable enough so shouldn't be a problem.
      I have a previous video about the different apartment types and their costs here: ruclips.net/video/KbkuQSJUyN4/видео.html
      👆do note that the information in this video might already be dated. For example, at the time I recorded that video, there was no information about shared rooms

      Thanks again @@RoadtoFinnish ! I appreciate your answer.
      In my case, I am interested in applying for a private room for one person in a shared appartment with 2 or 3 students more. Due to these reasons, should I choose Hoas Room in a shared apartment instead of Hoas Shared room in a shared apartment ? or If I chose Hoas Shared room in a shared apartment I will havee my own private room too?
      BR

    • @RoadtoFinnish
      @RoadtoFinnish  4 года назад +2

      @@naiarahurtado6374 I would recommend that you apply for a room in a shared apartment. This means that you will have a private and lockable room for yourself.
      If you apply for a shared room in a shared apartment, you will share a private room with one other person.

    • @RoadtoFinnish
      @RoadtoFinnish  3 года назад

      Hey Suteera and thanks for the great question! This depends slightly on the apartment provider but its pretty common that water and high speed internet are included in the rent (when talking about student apartments). You do need to make a separate electricity contract but electricity in Finland is rather cheap so should not be more than 10-30 euros per month max (thats actually the range for me and my gf together so it should be less for one person). I would need a bit more information in order to help you apply for a suitable apartment. What are you going to study and to which city did you apply to? Each university city has their student apartment services that are independent from each other so you need to apply to each service separately.
      I suggest that you start going through the apartments available from each service based on the cities that you applied to:

      Hello Olivier, I too have applied to universities in Finland. It seems as if the process of gaining an apartment is unsure. As an international student ,we search for apartment. Do the Finnish students also search for apartments or stay with parents?

    • @RoadtoFinnish
      @RoadtoFinnish  4 года назад

      @@goethenoidea1549 Interesting questions, I hope this will clear things a bit.
      First of all, to answer your question: in Finland it is way more common for students to move out from their parents when they get admitted compared to staying at home. So yes, Finnish students do also look for the same apartments as international students. Some student apartment providers (like HOAS in the Helsinki metropolitan area) also provide apartments that are intended solely for exchange students. The idea is to make sure that there are enough student priced apartments for exchange students.
      To your first point: no, it is not guaranteed that you will get a student apartment. This is why you should apply for student apartments immediately after you are admitted. If you wait for too long, you will most definitely be left out without a student apartment.
      However, if you are left without a student apartment, you can still look for a flat from the private market. The big negative here is that you will end up paying easily more than double the rent compared to a student flat.
      I have made two separate videos about student apartments in Finland so do check them out for more information.
      In this video I explain the different student apartment options: ruclips.net/video/nxu8s6oNb_w/видео.html
      In this video I explain how much student housing costs in Finland: ruclips.net/video/KbkuQSJUyN4/видео.html
      Hope this helps. Best of luck with your application process!

    OliverR, i have two questions.
    is there any student apartment provided by 'Hoas' in kokkola near Centria University?
    Can i share this type of roomy apartment with my friend who is female and who is also a student?

    • @RoadtoFinnish
      @RoadtoFinnish  3 года назад +1

      Hey and thanks for the questions! No, Hoas does not have apartments in Kokkola. Hoas only has apartments in the capital region (around Helsinki). Student apartments in the Kokkola region are provided by Tankkari. You can visit their website here: www.tankkari.fi/
      To your question about shared apartments, you cannot share a apartment like this with a person of the opposite sex. In Finland, shared apartments are in general single sex and if you want to share an apartment with a friend of yours who is female you would need to get a family apartment. However, this comes with its own quirks because you would be seen as partners.

      Can i get family apartment which have one room and one kitchen around rent of £300/350 in finland as like in kokkola?

    • @RoadtoFinnish
      @RoadtoFinnish  3 года назад +1

      @@wolverinenadim4619 mm based on a quick search this is going to be quite hard. Just as a reference, the student apartments from Tankkari go for £380ish and up and i didnt even check all of them. So i would say that you should definitely reserve at least £550-560 or something like that.
      Do take in mind that this was based on a 10 minute search so i would recommend you doing your own research. Just search for rental apartments Kokkola in Google and you'll get plenty of rental apartment websites that you can check. However, these are from the private market and if you want to double check the prices for Tankkari, i recommend you contact them directly.

      Hey, the prices for apartments depend on many different factors, but these types of apartments range from 300-500€ per month. The final rent will depend on factors like location, the size of the apartment, how new the building is and what kind of services are included in the rent.
