Beautiful metaphor. And from interviews she confirms that it is intentional, to break the sonic barrier vocally and distort like the sweetest electric guitar distortion. You can hear that.
Ever since I first heard Brandi Carlile, I felt like I was putting on the most comfortable clothing and well worn shoes I have.
The clothing with the most elasticity AND sentimental value. My little brothers sneakers that he gave me for better grip when I climb mountains, my fathers jacket that he gave me when I was cold, that has the name of the company he works for (to support our family) and his name on the back.
I grew up listening to all the same influences Brandi seems to have. I come from a musical family that taught me the true value and appreciation for good music and well written songs.
When I hear these songs I get goosebumps and my heart sings along.
+Wendy Martin This is a fabulous illustration. I feel the exact same way. My friend described her voice recently as "bourbon and starlight". I put on her music when I want to emote, when I want to relax, when I want to let go of everything. Then I see her live or watch a performance on youtube and I just want to grab a drink or a cup of coffee with her and talk about our favorite TV shows and raid her closet, she's so relatable.

Is it even possible to watch this, listen to it, and not be absolutely in love with Brandi Carlile and her band? Still swooning after 9 years
Just saying, she is one of the most talented live artists out right now. This video doesn't do her justice, if you see her live you will understand. I went to Bonnaroo and saw lots of bigger artists than her, but her voice blows them out of the water.

I think this woman is amazing. I don't think she has the "best" voice I ever heard. I do think she has the most compelling voice I've ever heard. Her's is the voice I want to hear forever.

If you like Brandi, you have to listen to her memoir, Broken Horses. It is amazing and she sings stripped down versions of certain songs that fit into her life story. Guaranteed it will make you cry!
Yes! I hardly knew who she was, but her memoir came up as a recommendation. I got it and wow!!! I’m a new fan!

My favorite so far are NPR’s tiny desk concert, the Grammy performance of The Joke, and the duet with Alicia keys where they sit facing each other at two grand pianos. Exquisite!
