World War II - Conflict in Europe (1939-1945)

  • World War II, WWII or WW2, also known as the Second World War (after the recent Great War), was a global war that lasted from 1939 to 1945, though related conflicts began earlier. It involved the vast majority of the world's nations-including all of the great powers-eventually forming two opposing military alliances: the Allies and the Axis. It was the most widespread war in history, and directly involved more than 100 million people from over 30 countries. In a state of "total war", the major participants threw their entire economic, industrial, and scientific capabilities behind the war effort, erasing the distinction between civilian and military resources. Marked by mass deaths of civilians, including the Holocaust (during which approximately 11 million people were killed) and the strategic bombing of industrial and population centers (during which approximately one million people were killed, including the use of two nuclear weapons in combat), it resulted in an estimated 50 million to 85 million fatalities. These made World War II the deadliest conflict in human history.

      romania did nothing except getting germans and hungarians encircled in stanlingrad, supplying oil to germany, surrendering to the soviet and betraying the axis, and losing territory to hungary, soviets, and bulgaria. romania was the second italy of the war.

    • @botatobias2539
      @botatobias2539 7 лет назад +11

      Romania provided hundreds of thousands of troops, they helped in the overall occupation of Ukraine, but especially in the sieges of Odessa and Sevastopol and the subsequent defense of Crimea. Romanians fought side by side with the Germans, the performance of Romanian Mountain Troops was so great, that after the war one of the first things the Soviet occupation authorities did was disbanding the mountain troops. Romania created the Mareșal tank destroyer, which became the conceptual basis for the Hetzer tank destroyer, one of the best German TDs in the war. The Romanians went in the USSR as deep as the Germans, and got 18 of the 43 German Knight's Crosses awarded to non-Germans (followed by 9 Italians, and Italy fought on more continents, so it's really not fair to call us the second Italy, maybe Italy the second Romania if you must). Even at Stalingrad, one Romanian General was so brave and resolute in his defense, even with nearly 0 resources, that he became the first foreigner to be awarded with the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves, an impressive feat sacrificed to serve the false narrative of "swift and easy Soviet victory". As for the betrayal part, please, what do you think would have happened if we remained with the Germans? We'd be called a puppet state by your so-called "historians", and now we're called traitors.
      See the conclusion is that there's just no way for us to please you people, you will always find something to bitch about when someone brings Romania in a discussion of WW2. You hate us because, with our history and achievements in WW2, we are a burden for your little brains, and thus you always try to deride and belittle us, ANYTHING just to get us out of the way. Pathetic.

      I don't know the exact statistics off the top of my head, but it's good to keep in mind that the death count from Soviet citizens in the gulag are often included in the Soviet casualties, so it may not be entirely accurate. That's not to take away from the fact that the Soviet losses were by far larger than the rest of the allies.

      Ильяс Гумарулы - I know a lot about Stalin, and it seems you know not. He was a psycophat who even killed those who had helped him previously and loved kommunism. Kazakhstan is so far away from Leningrad and Moskva so he propably didnt kill so many people from there. I do not know much about kommunist history Kazakhstan but I know about my land and other nearby areas.
      Stalin killed just anyone who he was afraid, those kommunists who didnt agree everything with him or just vere from other lands or just vere too poverful for Stalins liking. Of course he did say they have worked aginst СССР, but there never was evidence.
      Stalin also killed many oridinary people who had done nothing against him, and would just have wanted to stay away or loved kommunism. Stalin did command to deport thousand of Estonian families from their homes to Siberia in poor conditions and many died on the way or in Siberia. Those families most of them had do nothing against Stalin and that was just brutality what Stalin did. He also did same deporting to other peoples under his rule.
      Stalin killed most of the Finnish kommunists who fled to СССР after reds lost the Civil war of Finland, even tho those people loved kommunism, and didnt want anything bad to СССР. Otto Kuusinen did survive for some reason, maybe because he was so good at killsing Stalins ass.
      Stalin was like Hitler, you could use same logic to defend Hitler you do to defend Stalin. Stalin was imperialist who wanted to enslave other peoples to his will. He was just like a lord or king who was brutal to his people. I can tell you that Stalin had promised peace to Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and many other countries, but then he just broke the agreements.
      Stalin occupied Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania with his army and then they pressured the people to join СССР, Soviet troops were in those countries and so numerous thaat there was no way to resist. Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania had given military bases to Soviets on their own countries to ensure peace and their independence, but Stalin uses those bases to occupy the lands.
      Suomi (Finland) where I am from did not agree with Stalin to give military bases, and change borders. This is why Stalin attacked us and claimed we shot first on Mainila, but my people didnt even have any cannons there to do shoting. Its just the same thing that Nazis claimed that Poland shot first...
      Stalins minions attacked my country when we just tried to live in peace, even though some of us were not happy how Soviets were threating East-Karelians. Most of people in Finland just wanted to live in peace with Soviets, but Stalin said: "Нет!!".
      Our second greatest city of Viipuri was ruined by the Soviet bombings and it was later stolen from us as were the cities of Sortavala and Käkisalmi as well as most of the Viipuri prowince of Karelian lands were stolen. We suomalaiset (Finnish people) just call it "Karjala" and all the Finnish Karelians who lost their homes to imperialist mass-murederer Stalin are still very sad about this injustice done by Soviet invaders in the name of Stalin. There is the saying: "Karjala takaisin!" (Karelia back!) to get the stolen Viipuri province (including its islands [Suursaari, Tytärsaari, Lavansaari, Seiskari] and sometimes the other stolen areas of Salla-Kuusamo area and Petsamo also.)
      If the Finlands Karelians would have stayed in their ancestral homelands Stalin would have depoerted many of them to Siperia just what he did to our Estonian sisters/brothers. Or shot them like many of our East-Karelian relatives. My ancestors lands in Viipuri Karelia Impilahti is still on wrong side of border and it like other Viipuri province was taken by force from us.
      Stalin tried to conquer Suomi (Finland) but because my people did fight back very well for their homelands security and because Stalin had killed the good officers in his army he was having big troubles doing this. France and England did also promise to maybe give help aginst СССР, so Stalind did realize that all these things meant he couldnt get all of Suomi, but he still could steal the well made factories in Suomi to his own hands by taking Viipuri Karelia from my people.
      His invaders only got to East-side of Viipuri and were not able to go over the river Vuoksi, but Still he demanded all those lands of Viipuri province to be given to him. He had a huge army and almost unlimited cannons so we had to agree on peace, but this made even most of workers to hate Stalin for his acts of land thieving. Why government agreed to this, maybe they thought we could later get our lands back, but sadly this never happened.

The worst part is when Nazi Germany started to badly lose the war in mid 1944, it put even more ressources in these. (at the same time, some german units had to use pre-world war I rifles)

    The war in Europe concluded with an invasion of Germany by the Western Allies and the Soviet Union, culminating in the capture of Berlin by Soviet and Polish troops and the subsequent German unconditional surrender on 8 May 1945. Following the Potsdam Declaration by the Allies on 26 July 1945 and the refusal of Japan to surrender under its terms, the United States dropped atomic bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki on 6 August and 9 August respectively. With an invasion of the Japanese archipelago imminent, the possibility of additional atomic bombings, and the Soviet Union's declaration of war on Japan and invasion of Manchuria, Japan surrendered on 15 August 1945. Thus ended the war in Asia, cementing the total victory of the Allies.

    • @Orion8729
      @Orion8729 7 лет назад

      Kristian Ley you also forgot some things: Japan officially surrenders in 15 august 1945 but the army refused to give up, so they continued to fight, in 2 September 1945 mainland Japan surrenders, but some army groups in China managed to keep fighting, and then surrendering a week later on 9 September 1945, definitely ending the war
