thank you for this! My daughter is just getting into doll customizing and she's earning her own money for supplies. We saw another way to do it using a drill chuck, which isn't really expensive but for an 11 year old $7 is a lot! This just saved her the money since we already have an old exacto pen laying around, so she can use her hard earned money on another supply she's been saving for! Thank you!!
Thank you for this! I have a rerooting tool that never held the needles securely. After watching your video, I took an exacto blade that I already had in my tool kit, removed the blade and replaced it with one of the needles and it works perfectly!
Thank you!! I tried with the rerooting tool and broke two needles in 4 plugs!! I will be making this one for sure. Looks alot more sturdy and cheaper!!😊
This is awesome! Thank you so much for this. I am trying to re-root a kimi toys 1/6 scale action figure head, which is made of a much harder plastic than barbie heads and has much smaller holes, so I need a small rooting tool and with this I can use whatever size needles I like and I can just replace them if they break!
You are amazing. Thank you so much for this. I was trying to use the handle from my hand drill and the needle kept sliding down into the handle. I never thought to use my knife handle! Thank you sooooooo much for sharing this!
Your reaction to her stabbed head and then bright red highlight actually made me laugh. Thanks for the info! New sub here, love your content and fun personality 😊
I have never tried that method of rerooting, though I've heard about people doing that. I just get a little impatient and so I tried a bunch of things until I found a way that saves time but still looks great. When I make my reroot video, I'll show you how to use a little bit of hot glue inside of the head after your finished rerooting. That way, you don't have to tie any knots and the hair is held in place firmly. I do customize lots of dolls, I just haven't made any videos about it yet lol I'm pretty good at giving them new faces, but I don't like sewing clothes for dolls (even though I can do it pretty well) so I usually use glue to hold the fabric together and save time. It is is possible to use your hot glue gun to make clothing that is still removable :)
***** With the hot glue you do have to go around when you're finished and whisk away any glue strands, but it's been a pretty neat process for the most part. I've considered getting a sewing machine, but I just don't have the room to have extra equipment right now. I'm starting to make the reroot video on Friday, if things go as planned, and I'll hopefully get it posted over the weekend. A lot of people have trouble painting the small faces - I have some tools and little tricks that might help, so when I have lots of time, I'll make a video about that, too. :)
u are amazing its super and it holds the needle tight , iv seen other ones make it from wood duck-tape and other crazy things but your version looks amazing and works amazing u rock .
Plug holes might rip on older dolls, because their rubber or vinyl heads might be more fragile or brittle. For newer dolls, I have ripped one or two, but the overall look is great and they turn out looking fine. It's totally up to you. I just prefer the larger needles so that I can use more hair in each plug. That is a really good point though, and the answer is yes, this can rip holes and I would probably use a smaller needle for an older or more valuable doll. I hope this helps! Thanks for your comment! :)
brandy bushway I’ve been recently re-rooting an old doll and a few of her hair Plugs ripped due to three reasons. 1. I was using a big needle (which they kept breaking too) 2. I was also taking to much hair 3. It, as I mentioned was an old doll So I changed my needle to a smaller Size (and it has prevented Breakage) and took less hair. And now Everything is working Perfectly.
Wow I think I'll try this instead of the old fashion way. The way you're doing it looks a lot faster and easier. I'll sure do it if I ever have a old doll to fix up but I'll put the knots at the end because I like to play with my dolls as a adult doll collecter.
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I'm a DIY'er and I was going to order one. I love your very clear instructions and safety tips. Now I'm going to find my exacto tool, lol 😆😆😆

Oh my goodness that was super easy I don't know why I didn't think of that cuz I love to sew. I wish I had found your video a month ago before I bought the hair rooting tool for 14 bucks off of Amazon
Thank you so much for such a well presented & easy to follow tutorial. I appreciate that you explain every step so clearly. I am so glad I found your vids and have subscribed. Keep safe x
You are right. I do have all the materials already! Thanks for doing this step by step process. Would gluing the hair from the inside of the head help the hair to stay in place? Would that be an alternate solution to knotting the hair? Thanks for telling me about this video on Instagram! As you know, I may attempt to re-root a Lindsey doll from the late 70s. Since the doll is hard to replace now, I want to make sure I practice first on dolls with similar rooting issues. Thanks for sharing this process!
+Sketch McScribbles I'm so glad you found this useful! :D You can definitely use glue - I NEVER use the knotting method, it takes forever... o_o If you would like to see my rerooting and method, just check my other video here: ruclips.net/video/OhopO22InY8/видео.html And of course feel free to ask me anything!~ That Lindsey is super cute, but you're right - you should practice on a few heads first. As long as you don't add the glue until you're happy, you can easily undo the entire reroot and start over. Also, here is a website with some "dot patterns" to help you determine the amount of hair and how to place it in the head: dollycare.blogspot.com/2010/11/guideline-reroot-patterns.html
Good information. Just so you know the "loop" on the sewing needle is called the "eye". You thread the eye of the needle 🪡. In your case you cut through the eye of the needle. The Exacto knife trick is an easy way to save money and time. They can be purchased at the dollar store for cheap. They are called "Craft Knife" because Exacto is a brand name and costs more.
Very cool and informative, this video was great and don't take this the wrong way but you put my daughter to sleep so I guess your voice is pretty soothing. She hasn't been feeling well so I got to watch your awesome video and she finally got a nap in. ;) I want to reroot all the Barbies, now.
I am just starting to plan my first reroot. I plan to do a few yarn reroots first to get used to the process. I was wondering about using a quilting tool for rerooting. Would the rerooting look as nice using a quilting tool. I realize to would make the process much faster but I wonder if the finished product would turn out the sane way. Also, would there be groups of hair instead of an even reroot. Thanks.
I'm going to have to try using a quilting tool. I've never done it that way, so I don't know. My thought is that it might be too big, but I am really not sure. I wish I knew so that I could give better advice! :)
Just noticed others saying quilting tool. I'll have to look that up, see if I have one in my boxes of sewing supplies. I inherited lots of unique items from my mother when she passed away, and I'm sure she had most every tool invented, as she sewed anything and everything, extremely talented. I never used a quilting tool for any quilts I made for my babies, self, years ago, just used sewing machine and hand stitching. I've used those tiny yarn pull tools, for when a thread on your crocheted or knit sweater needs to be pulled back through to reverse side of sweater so it doesn't show, but that's like a rug hook, which closes as you pull, pretty sure you don't mean that.
... this video helped with my decision whether I should by a reroot tool or not. :D I want to try the knot method at first, but in times of impatience (lol), a reroot tool would come in very handy, and your way of making your own is so VERY easy.
Thank you!! Please check back soon, as I have started again and I'll be adding more tutorials, restorations and ASMR toy unboxing videos within the next week. 👍 Thanks so much for the kind words, it means a lot and encourages me to keep trying my best!! 😁

I know it's an old video, but it's SO helpful. My big problem with rerooting tools that I buy is the needle disappearing up inside the tool. It drives me insane and I stopped bothering because of it. But I'm going to try this, it's much cheaper and hopefully much more effective.
That is a massive hair plug that you did. I use 1/4 of that amount at most. *if you root that thick around the hairline or the 'part' youll end up with a probable split scalp. But kudos to the needle hack!
@@bornwithbsguards I did it large because my camera didn't focus well back then 😅 I should have mentioned to use smaller hanks, but just wanted to make sure it was visible for everyone. 💕 Thanks so much for viewing!
I have a tiny doll, like, dollhouse doll child, whose hair needs to be rerooted as it all fell out after too much combing. I was wondering how to make the handle part. I didn't think of the exact knife handle. Yay!
Smart kid. Where do you grt yhe hair you use? I want to reroot a baby doll head for Thumbelina. This is going to be a big job on this but,i like the clever way you did the reroot tool. How did you lock in the hair pluggs? My company should hire you to do there training viedos. My work ones suck.
Hahaha thanks for all the compliments! I actually used to do training for GameStop around the time I made this, so it's funny you said that 😂 I pour glue (Elmer's or hot glue) into the head once it's all done. Don't use too much, and make sure it's spread on the inside. Also, if you just twist when removing the tool after inserting the hair, it typically is just stuck there. I've even styled the hair after rerooting without any glue and I've never had a hair plug come out. If you are making the doll for display, it's fine to skip the glue. If it's for play, you should add the glue. I get the hair by buying old wigs, hair extensions, etc. You can buy doll rerooting hair online, but it's so much cheaper and you get so much more if you just cut it off of wigs. I usually get wigs at the thrift store or yard sales, wash them, brush, and cut off the hair I need as I reroot. 🤷♀️ I know this is a lot, but I wanted to help. Sorry for the late reply!
After blowing through 5 needles at 6$ a set of five I thought hlthere has to be a better way......thank you, I have heard of making this way but, your tutorial puts it all into perspective...;)
Cool. I love to make as much things as possible myself. What if you'd grind the sharp edges of the tool a bit so it doesn't poke a messy hole? You could take a fine diamond nailfile for it.
Totally up to you! In this video, I just kinda rooted the hair wherever to show how it works, but typically the doll I'm using is completely bald and I use only the existing holes without ripping new ones. I didn't get to show it in this video, but I plan to do a fast-forward full reroot video in the next few months. That way, you can see how it looks when it's finished. To me, the holes are not noticeable once all of the new hair is in place - but I can 100% understand wanting that perfect look, so feel free to experiment :D
Would putting a piece of tape on the eye of the needle help it to not fly everywhere when you cut the tip off? Very good cause I was actually going to buy a re root tool too. thank you. :)
You should look up a needle felting handle, same exact principle as the exacto knife base, but a little more ergonomically suited for hand work over long periods. Thanks for the tutorial!

The Exacto knife trick is an easy way to save money and time. They can be purchased at the dollar store for cheap. They are called "Craft Knife" because Exacto is a brand name and costs more.
FANTASTIC!!!
THANKS SO MUCH!
Great job and I understand perfectly!
Very cool and informative, this video was great and don't take this the wrong way but you put my daughter to sleep so I guess your voice is pretty soothing. She hasn't been feeling well so I got to watch your awesome video and she finally got a nap in. ;) I want to reroot all the Barbies, now.
LoL Glad to help! I was so new to RUclips and it's so weird to talk to just a camera like there's someone there with you, you know? lol
Genius!!! I saw a knock off craft knife at dollar tree last time i was there. Going to pick it up so that i can use the handle full time.
You could put superglue on the inside and squish it around😄
Thank you so very much for your video. I will definitely try it. You are the best.
Best rooting tool❤️great job
you know what? You can also reroot dolls with a quilling tool... and it works just as good;)
I am definitely going to have to try that, thanks for letting me know! :)
Samayavisa Negi What is a quilling tool? Never heard of this.
It is better quality to use the knot method, but I am so impatient, I have to use a tool ^_^;;; hahaha
thx so much this was a lot of help and this is my first video of yours that i have watched and i just subed so yeah!
Thank you!!
Please check back soon, as I have started again and I'll be adding more tutorials, restorations and ASMR toy unboxing videos within the next week. 👍 Thanks so much for the kind words, it means a lot and encourages me to keep trying my best!! 😁
OMG thank you very much !!!!! I always wanted to know how to get this tool
You saved me time and money, thank you!
Wow!! I never knew that this was so easy! Thanks so much!!!
Brilliant! I've been holding the needle with a pair of pliers and jamming the hair in, it keeps flying away. Lol. I wish I would've known this sooner!
OMG thank you. I seriously needed this video!! Life saver!!
You're so welcome!
Cockatiel Barbie FTW!!!!
😂 🤣😂 🤣
This is really great - so simple. Thank you for the $$$ saved!
awesome. been looking for this everywhere. subscribed
Thanks, I was really discouraged when someone with more subscribers than me copied my reroot tool video...😢 It's okay though, I had to figure out how to make my videos better quality anyway. 😅 Please check back soon, as I have started again and I'll be adding more tutorials, restorations and ASMR toy unboxing videos within the next week. 👍 Thanks so much for the kind words, it means a lot and encourages me to keep trying my best!! 😁
Great video... dad of 2 daughters and recent recipient of 31 monster high dolls and a mountain of wool..
Oh wow! You have my best wishes!!
wow . wonderful , no more problems for rooting.. Yay thaks a mil
I know it's an old video, but it's SO helpful. My big problem with rerooting tools that I buy is the needle disappearing up inside the tool. It drives me insane and I stopped bothering because of it. But I'm going to try this, it's much cheaper and hopefully much more effective.
Love this video thanks for sharing
OMG tyyy so much so easy
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! 8-D I can´t find this tool anywhere so great now I can make one!!! COOL!!! :)
I'm so glad this video helped! 🙌
I actually used to do training for GameStop around the time I made this, so it's funny you said that 😂
I pour glue (Elmer's or hot glue) into the head once it's all done.
I know this is a lot, but I wanted to help. Sorry for the late reply!
Thanks so much for making this video!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for this tool idea.
thanks for the tip that was an awesome tool you made
Best tutorial ever
Best tutorial on this!
Thank you!!! Such a great idea!!!
Try taping the edges of the nail clippers to prevent the needle from flying everywhere!!
Thank you so much this was so helpful! 🧡💜
Would putting a piece of tape on the eye of the needle help it to not fly everywhere when you cut the tip off? Very good cause I was actually going to buy a re root tool too. thank you. :)
That's a good idea!
You should look up a needle felting handle, same exact principle as the exacto knife base, but a little more ergonomically suited for hand work over long periods. Thanks for the tutorial!
Ooohhh I will! Thank you!
Didn't try it yet, because I knew it would work thank you!
oh my gosh that is so cool what a great idea I'm so going to use that😀😀
Brilliant vid. Well done.
Thank you so much, this means a lot to me. I'll be posting videos again starting next week!
Very informative thanks sis new subscriber here! 😊
Thankful,
Ps, If I don’t have a knife or a needle!?
Great video! Thanks so much 😉
This is amazing, I am unable to get the rerooting tool.
Thanks
Very helpful! Thank you!
Brilliant! Saving this one, 😘
